DragonBall Pet Peeves?
DragonBall Pet Peeves?
What are your greatest pet peeves in the DragonBall universe? It could be things fans do, misconceptions, rumors, or actual canon things.
For me, I think my ultimate Pet Peeve is when Goku and Vegeta's hair get different color shadings to it. Such as Purple or Brown for Vegeta and Blue for Goku. It used to be that it would just show up in occasional animation. But I see this in A LOT of official art these days and it really just bugs me. Because a Saiya-jin's hair is supposed to be black and putting those odd shadings on their hair when the atmosphere doesn't even call for it is pointless.

Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
Isn't Vegeta's hair brown to begin with? We have seen Saiyans with brown hair before.
Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
I wish Toriyama cared more about the series in general. Things like the color of the outfit so-and-so character was wearing at a certain time being constant, and not just forgetting characters exist.
And the general misinterpretation of the show via FUNimation.

Fans that like to create "SSJ 1000" and things of that nature.

Well I greatly dislike the ending to the series. How Goku acts, characters not enough attention given, and Oob.
My other would be "OVER 9000!". I don't think it's funny. I don't understand why so many do. Not to mention the line is just flat out wrong. Delivery and script wise.

That kind of shading is used to give something completely black a bit of depth to it. If you take a look at American Superheroes who have black hair or a large amount of black on their costumes, something like blue will commonly be used to add detail and depth that can't otherwise be seen with just black alone.Gozar wrote:What are your greatest pet peeves in the DragonBall universe? As for Vegeta sometimes having completely brown hair, I'm not sure what that's about. I just run with it in the rare instances that it happens.
Anywho, my biggest pet peeve about Dragonball is actually not within Dragonball itself, but some of the things fans do in terms of debate and complaints. If I get too deeply into it, it hinders my enjoyment of Dragonball in general and the whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Luckily, not a lot of that goes on around here unless a completely new never-before-seen product is announced. Then the complaints start rolling in only after everything I want out of the conversation has already happened.
Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
That was weird since...well Saiyans only have black hair right? Pretty sure I read that in the book a few weeks ago, cos Vegeta said a comment like that when he saw Trunks.LeprikanGT wrote:Isn't Vegeta's hair brown to begin with? We have seen Saiyans with brown hair before.
Anyways I actually didn't mind when they randomly had Vegeta's hair like that. Dunno I've always dug colour mess ups...as long as it's not like SUPER consistent or anything. And with the anime they already fucked up the "Saiyans only have black hair" deal when they made the colour palette for King Vegeta and Fasha/Celipa/Korn whatever she's really called.
as for what I hate in Dragonball....or er DBZ at least since I have not fully watched the first half yet, what pisses me off is how the style changes to uh...WORSE as it progresses (to me anyways). Never really liked the idea of having other Super Saiyan forms either, they look kinda stupid :c

My name is Zep, as in Hindle. If you call me Keamy instead, it's Kay-mee, not Kee-mee, there is a difference. And dammit Serp, my name is not spelled "Kreamy".
Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
In the series, I've got to say that one of the things I absolutely hate is how Saiyans always get all the glory after Freeza. Everyone without glowing blonde hair was right next useless in comparison. Even Piccolo is tossed aside by the Boo arc. It just gets on my nerves a little bit. You'd think the human characters would be able to do something, but they just can't. Being a human myself it annoys me to no end.
Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
The ending. >_<
A while back I was following Rurouni Kenshin through the VizBigs, and man was there such a great proper amount of closure to the series. It made me wish DB had that. I feel too much that DB's ending is more a set up for GT than an ending per say.
I'd have rather had that last chapter be the beginning of an arc where Goku teaches Uub all sorts of martial arts techniques and then something happens where they end up having to battle some evil makaioshin like the ones in DBO. Have something to hand the reigns over to Uub in a more convincing manner. I dunno.
Ah, about hair colors, I don't like dark purple-haired Vegeta. It just seems too out of place to me.
(Which is kind of odd since I prefer black w/blue highlights Goku and dark brown-haired Vegeta; but those are just artistic choices of mine because I like how they look better than black with grey highlights. Dark brown-haired Vegeta does show up in the anime often enough where I can use it as a source. As for Goku, Movie 9 has a few examples, but it's not as common.)

When people think a fundamental shift occurred that pushed the humans aside so the Saiyans could hog everything. The humans in general were never particularly useful; Yamcha, Krillin, Chaozu and Yajirobe were never a significant challenge to Goku, while Roshi and Tien fade into uselessness after their one fight that Goku only loses by a tiny, tiny, random-chance margin.

Power level debates. Why? Because I think they overanalyze the series way too much.

The fact that we will never see a release with the original audio quality intact.
It's definitely watchable, but jeez, after listening to a few samples, it's hard to go back to that horrible fuzzy quality on the DVDs, especially considering GT for the most part was in stereo. A true disgrace Toei did to the audio.

Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
I agree with this, and was a victim of battle power debates myself. Simply reading through a volume of the Dragon Ball manga was hassle for me, because I had to think about, "Hmm, what does Piccolo mean when he says Kaioshin's "dimensions ahead" of him?" or, "How strong are the humans in the Cell Arc?", to the point where it just became a chore. Even whenever SSJ Vegeta would appear in the manga, I'd immediately think, "OK, so he's 220 million...", because BPs were so much a part of how I saw Dragon Ball. I do still have a Saiyan to Freeza arc BP list sitting on Word, but I know if I ever got back into that part of the fandom, my brain would just melt. Battle powers are a flawed concept itself, and trying to make sense out of them is now about as fun as banging my head against a brick wall.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Power level debates. Why? Well, Trunks is half-Saiyan, and his hair colour takes after his mother, meaning only pure-blood Saiyans should have black hair. Gohan has black hair because both his parents have black hair.Ahiru77 wrote:All Saiyans should have black hair. Prince Vegeta said so!!

Re: DragonBall Pet Peeves?
Herp-a-derp, tail inconsistencies, recessive trait, lololol.
Seriously, that always pissed me off. Gokou had his removed by God, so it makes sense that it wouldn't grow back. Vegeta seemed certain his would (which leads me to believe the popular fan view of 'after a certain age it stops growing back' thing is bullshit), but it didn't because Toriyama forgot. Gohan, a young child, younger than Gokou whose tail always grew back, also never gets his tail back. Goten and Trunks are either magically born without them or have them removed offscreen and maybe Bulma applies some sort of magical sciency tail-be-gone serum she developed so that they don't grow back.
It's all so inconsistent, and inconsistency pisses me off (inb4 'Dragonball is full of inconsistency what are you talking about'). Gah.

Personally, I think that silver should be used to show the depth a la like Goku on the Season 2 Orange Brick.Kendamu wrote:That kind of shading is used to give something completely black a bit of depth to it. For the most part I think Movies 8 and 9 are the only ones to really do the blue shading thing. I remember even Mr. Satan had blue shaded hair in Movie 9.Chuquita wrote:(Which is kind of odd since I prefer black w/blue highlights Goku and dark brown-haired Vegeta; but those are just artistic choices of mine because I like how they look better than black with grey highlights. The ending for me too. Didn't really like how Goku just went off to train Uub and then END. Just didn't really feel too in-place there.
