Spopovich Appreciation thread
We have some respect due to a certain formerly long-haired man. That's right, it's Spopovich! He was used to be a pretty happy guy. Then Bobbibi turns him Majin, and now he's a bald dude with constant constipation. He beat the crap (and teeth) out of Videl. Then he and his brother stole Gohan's energy. His final act was his head exploding, which was pretty cool. Let's all stop for a moment and appreciate Spopovich!

Spopovich was a great, kind man, with a big heart. A pillar of the community. If only we could all be a little more like Spopovich.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Spopovich was a great dad to his son. He gave him a nice hug and sent him to the store to pick up some Budweiser after he found out Yamu molested him. He's an overall great guy, he steals from orphanages and euthanizes pets while they're sleeping.

Spopovich was a wonderful ballroom dancer. He always stopped at lemonade stands.

Yep, if only we all could basically beat the shit out of an innocent girl; than we'd all be as great as him!penguintruth wrote:Spopovich was a great, kind man, with a big heart. A pillar of the community. If only we could all be a little more like Spopovich.
But, he was an okay guy for only living 2-4 episodes (might not even be the amount; but, eh).

Well, that destroyed the internet. :p
Hisao Egawa-san voiced Spopovitch well. Next to Piroshki-san, it was his biggest role in the series. As you all know, the actor defines the character and Egawa-san defined Spopovitch with loving care, sheparding the brutal maniac through a successful career as a brutal maniac. We should all take note of and learn from Spopovitch and Egawa-san's hard work..

He looks like someone out of the WWF, to me.

Re: Spopovich Appreciation thread
But...there is no notion of Spopovitch being a mass murderer. He only enjoyed sucking people's energy and beating the crap out of women.dbgtFO wrote:Yes you have! Now we make special threads dedicated to our favourite mass murderersKid Buu wrote:...It seems I've started quite the trend.
In a way, he represents the western man from the colonial times. One has to do what one can to survive (becoming Babidi's minion), take use of other people's resources (steal energy), and teach women that their place is in the kitchen and not in a martial arts tournament (beating the crap out of Videl).
And he did succeed, indeed. We see Videl becoming a mother, putting her martial arts training on the shelf, and becoming a perfect housewife.
Spopovitch had a great impact on Dragonball Z, and without him, the events in the Buu arc would have proceeded much more differently and much less interestingly.
In a way, he is the character who made Dragonball Z complete, so let us take a walk into the light that he has shared with us.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Anyone else who thinks that Spopovitch's design (pre-majinization) was inspired by Hulk Hogan? I mean, minus the cap that he wears all the time.
