Gohan went Super Saiyan 2 after his power was unlocked?

I've been wondering about this and I just want it clearing up because it does explain why Gohan's hair and facial features seem to be that of a Super Saiyan.

"After some time, the ritual is finally completed and Gohan is told to transform into a Super Saiyan; however, when he does, his appearance does not change, but his power and strength gain an incredible increase."

Now really this would imply that Gohan's Super Saiyan powers are still in effect but don't change his visage, or, in this case his hair colour.

This also raises another question, what if Gohan was to train to a Super Saiyan 3, would he then get a much larger power boost, would his hair grow to the length of a Super Saiyan 3 but stay jet black?

So I'm interested in seeing your responses guys, post away

It would stay black with no growth. I think the power-up removed his ability to change into a Super Saiyan completely.

I was answering thepart about Gohan being SS3. He already is stronger that a super saiyan 3 isn't he? There's no need for him to waste enrgy transforming. His muscles may pump up a bit more but I think he would look roundabout the same.

Well the last part answered the question, my point was that nowhere in my post did I ever pose the question 'would Gohan need to go Super Saiyan 3?' that's all.

I don't get why this is even being asked... The manga shows us precisely what Gohan looks like post-ritual; the manga shows us that Gohan cannot transform post-ritual; the manga tells us that post-ritual Gohan's power was independent of his Super Saiyan transformations.

It's being asked because of what's said on the Dragonball Wikia, if I gather enough information against this then I can change the Wikia and stop any fans getting the wrong idea in the future, whilst also posing questions other than the topic question, just for a bit of fun.

As I learnt on the 'Raging Blast 2' topic... Sometimes it's actually quite painful reading that thing.

It wouldn't make a difference either way, if the ritual was supposed to draw out all of what he was potentially capable of and more; his SSJ3 power would've been included in that.

We also see a SSJ3 hair trait when he transformed into his "Ultimate" state, which proves that it was definitely possible for him to have attained SSJ3 on his own, at least for me anyways.

Dragon Ball Wikia actually got this one right. Elder Kaioshin tells him to "do that Super thing of yours," and Gohan ends up bringing all his power out without transforming. That's the point of it, really. And yeah, Gohan is more powerful than even SSJ3 Goku after this, so I think it's safe to say that he already has the potential power he'd gain from going Super Saiyan 3, and thus the form isn't needed/possible/whatever.

In a way, the 'Ultimate' state for Gohan didn't just "utilize" his Super Saiyan powers, since it pulled out everything he could reach with them and more... but it also replaced them, consolidating all their power into a state that's easier and practical to use, his "base" state. Even if the golden-haired forms could go up another 2 levels, it wouldn't matter, nor presumably change his appearance any.

Yes. He is even stronger than a fusion using SSJ3 (SSJ Gotenks) which is incredible.

Then I don't see him ever visually looking any different w/ getting stronger.

You do see a slight change in his facial features when he activated his power-up. His eyes notably change to the more slanted, intense appearance that they had when he was in a powered up Ssj state, even when Gohan was seemingly just standing around in a calm state (like as he's getting ready to leave Kaioushin-kai). His hair also changes shape to a slightly more rigid appearance such as how it is when he's an Ssj. So there are some visibly physical changes to Gohan after he activated the power-up, just subtle.

FYI, those "details" aren't so much a matter of Gohan's face actually morphing as they are just an artistic tweak to just make Gohan's expression and mannerisms look more "serious." Especially the eyes. It's not like he didn't have eyelids before and then POOF, he suddenly grew them. The same stylistic thing happens when Goku goes Super Saiyan.

Still, they're visual changes to his appearance that we (the readers) are able to see that he retains for the entire remainder of the manga.
