Episode #0235! VegettoEX, Meri, and Corey reluctantly dive in to the original 1993 "Official Visual Guide" version of "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans". This video strategy guide for the original Famicom game can be viewed as its own stand-alone feature, but should you bother? Is there anything under the surface that could result in a decent remake in the upcoming "Raging Blast 2"...? October's news and releases, as well as some fantastic e-mails, rounds out the episode. We're back! Nice, long, content-filled episode for ya'.

When you guys were going over original game characters, I think you missed one (that I know of anyways).

Wasn't there an original boss for the first NES game? The one re-released on Dragonball DS 2, I believe. Or Dragon Power here. I can't remember the original name lol.

You talkin' bout Kurimurin? The alien Krillin?

Sorry if that is wrong and the character was listed on the podcast. I haven't listened yet, but I'm planning to real soon. As soon as I can get my piece of shit car to start, I've got a long drive.

Topic aside, I guess I'm the only one who finished both GT and Sagas beginning to end with no skipping.

I guess that makes me an awesome fan!

While I have never played Sagas I can say that I have seen every episode of GT. I think I saw most of GT twice even. When I watched it back in 2004 on YTV and renting the DVDs at Blockbuster and from when I got the Green Bricks. And I can say I did enjoy GT more then other fans. It wasn't terrible in my opinion but not as good as DBZ or the original Dragon Ball. I just found the early episodes boring.

Good podcast this week. When I first heard that there would be a remake of the OVA Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans I was so happy and then when I saw the OVA I was disappointed. I am still looking forward to seeing it on Raging Blast 2 though but I hope its better then the original. I just hope its not unlockable or else I will be mad because I really don't want to have to play the game (I am renting the game just for the OVA).

I beat Sagas. It took like 45 minutes. Thankfully, I wasn't the one who bought it. :P

Concerning James Marsters' comment, I have a feeling that it was Stephen Chow who's got beef with FOX. Being a follower of Hong Kong films, it is no secret that Stephen Chow tends to make enemies with industry people for sake of artistic integrity. Over the years, he's made enemies with film makers like Sammo Hung (Martial Law), HK director Johnnie To, Danny Lee (actor from John Woo's classic "The Killer"), and most recently, Seth Rogan (Knocked Up) due to difference of opinion for "The Green Hornet".

But Stephen Chow's extremely popular and his movies sell. Making enemies in showbiz won't make any difference to him!

James Marsters is like the only thing good about DBE.

And there's no end-of-podcast chatting? I guess Corey's too expensive to have him hang around after he's done the deed? :P

I never got why people had a problem with the music in the OVA. Sure, it ain't traditional Dragon Ball music, but it's still kinda neat. That song you played at the end of the episode is particularly groovy.

Damn, if James Marsters is dissin' on DBE like that, there really is no hope for a sequel! (Yay?)

It's "Kurilien". Kuririn alien...get it? Har har. Or alternatively "Krillien", I suppose.

Heh, nah, there wasn't really anything this week. Corey's a professional, yo! Unlike some other guy, he's to the point and awesome and doesn't let me go on about random bullshit!

Yeah, I ended the episode with its main theme, which is one of the only tracks I actually like. I really considered interrupting the episode when we started talking about that first song when Gohan's running with the firewood with that scene's BGM, but I had already edited the entire episode at that point :P. That one's just... ugh... I'm cool with its style and its purpose and all that jazz, but the arrangement of it is just terrible. It's the second track on the soundtrack, if anyone's interested in checking it out.

Totally flew by me. I'll make sure we catch it next time (of course, the game will be out over here by then...).

Cool topic for an episode to prepare those who have never seen the Official Visual Guide, myself included.

I'm sure it won't be great but even though I have not seen the original and the remake is coming I am feeling pretty optimistic. Sure in a couple years we might look back and think disappointment but now I hope to enjoy the remake when it arrives. It'll be a shiny, new toy in my fanboy hands.

Also I am very disappointed by Corey's professionalism. I want my 10 minutes of randomness DAMN IT!

Aptness is my specialty. :P

I want Banjo, Ukulele, Organ, Kurialien, and Majin Ozotto in new games, too! :)

A fun little episode. Personally, I think the remake's going to have a pretty easy time shortening up the story. Let's take a look at what will likely come to pass:

•Opens with Raiichi's monologue.
•Cut Capsule Corp. where they've set up the whole Destron Gas stuff. Vegeta can explain the history of the Saiyans and Tsufruians to the gang since we know he and Trunks are there.
•The gang will likely sense that Freeza and gang are in the city, replacing that first outside battle with the battle with the four Ghost Warriors.
•From there we'll cut to that final battle with Hatchihyakku.

Yeah, that seems...apt.

Ah, Dragon Ball Evolution info. That Marsters info was awesome. Too bad the film was a piece of crap.

Switching back to Plan to Eradicate the [Super] Saiyans...really looking forward to the 2010 special. Yeah.

Yeah, that's one key difference in podcasting with Mike and Meri vs. podcasting with Heath: With the former, you wrap and the first words that are heard after hitting stop on the recording are Meri saying, "Okay, I'm going to bed." Then Mike follows soon after. ;)

With the latter...well, Heath and I have a tendency to chat on Skype for 3-4 hours after finishing the recording (And Ryan, kickass fellow that he is, stuck around for the long haul after we did the Big Green Podcast).

It's all good times though.

(And come on Nathan, I'm the slut of the family, not the whore. ;p)

Oh you know if Mike gave you money, you wouldn't complain. :P

A point brought up in the Games section about "The Plan..." that further proves it's retardation is that Raichi hates the Saiyans, yet uses Tullece.

I don't have a twitter, so I couldn't share this there, but for me what is easily the most memorable part of "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" would be the following video clips (though I think they're game-only ones) of Kamesennin offering Vegeta what looks like a VHS porno and Vegeta reacting by promptly throwing the tape at Kamesennin's head.

First 10 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pneuTk2khQQ
The payoff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU-2_Z7qt6s

Also, Goku driving a submarine, attacking a sea monster with it, and then having to stick his arm inside said monster's nostril to pull out some sort of magical ring.
Which is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULubqe6JgrU
It's also kind of neat for a glimpse of how the Z portion of the series would be if the characters relied more on vehicles.

As for the remake, I only really have high hopes because the art style makes it look as though it's the same team (at least with the art) as the Jump Tour special, and I loved the Jump Tour special--both for the artwork and for all the problems bored Goku seemed to go out of his way to cause, especially for Vegeta.
