Basically, it would take place on Yardrat, shortly after Goku crash lands there. Whilst his wounds are being tended to, one of Freeza's scouting ships that had been sent to investigate the loss of communication from Namek arrives, having followed him. Goku attempts to fight these new enemies but is still suffering from his wounds and can barely maintain Kaio Ken, let alone transform into a Super Saiyan. He's assisted by a Yardrat and another alien and his foes leave, saying they initially came for information but want to see the power that supposedly killed Freeza. Before they depart they tell Goku to meet with them as soon as he's healed and that if he doesn't, Namek won't be the only planet he'd see destroyed.
Once Goku's wounds have healed he goes to meet with them. Their leader was one of Freeza's more powerful captains and states that he'd have always liked to have fought Freeza to test his strength but didn't want to jeopordise the job he loved - going from planet to planet and battling new foes. He states he believed Freeza's boast of being "strongest in the universe" to be a bluff and a seld proclaimed title when you consider how vast the universe is and that Freeza "didn't even train". Now, thanks to Goku, his oppurtunity to fight Freeza is gone and he's effectively been made redundant as most of Freeza's forces now have nowhere to go.
Him and Goku battle, but it's painfully obvious that Goku needs to become a Super Saiyan in order to win, but he's unable to pull off the transformation at will. He mentions to Trunks in the series that at first, the transformation was something that just happened and that it took him time to be able to transform at will and I want to play on that. The Yardrat and the unknown alien jump in again and whip Goku away from the battlefield.
The Yardrat isn't very strong but uses some powerful techniques, I'm setting him up to be the one to teach Goku the Instant Transmission. He'll also perform variants on the Kamehameha, for example, he'll twist his arms a lot whilst doing the chant to make a Kamehameha shoot from each palm and twist around each other, making it more effective. The unknown alien reveals himself to have also followed Goku from Namek. He goes on to explain that Freeza slaughtered his people and that he'd been training for a chance at revenge and that now he'd never get that chance. He's grateful that the universe no longer has to fear the tyrant but wants to fight Goku to see if he really could have matched up to Freeza. His strength is in his ability to inflict ailments on the enemy and weaken them from the inside out before defeating them. For example, he has a technique called the Ki Siphon which drains Ki from the opponent's body at an alarming rate to wear them out and disable their special abilities. If I did do this as an RPG, Goku and these two would form the main party.
Naturally, the leader of Freeza's remnants isn't too happy about Goku getting away and proceeds to start attacking Yardrat settlements. Goku wants to jump straight back into the fray but the others warn him he already got beaten once and that he needs to train. They decide to venture to each of the cities and take down the army one piece at a time to try and reduce their grip on the planet. As their numbers whittle down they get closer to battling the leader again.
Goku's Super Saiyan transformation is still coming in fits and starts, but with his Kaio Ken, the alien's Ki Siphon and the Yardrat's library of techniques they manage to knock the leader back. He transforms and kills the Yardrat, Goku snaps and transforms into a Super Saiyan, realising that rage is the key. After becomign a Super Saiyan it's pretty one sided fight.
From there it's pretty standard, Goku wins but overhears a radio transmission declaring they'd recovered Freeza's body and were working on reviving him and decides to train with the alien until he sensed Freeza. During the events of this would arc he would also deny Porunga's summoning to Earth because he has business to attend to on Yardrat, namely defeating the remnants and helping the Yardrat rebuild.
It could also cut away to Vegeta's search for Goku from time to time to break up the action, plus Vegeta's one of my favourite characters.
Anyways, what do you think? Comic or game?
Edit: OK, the lack of replies can't be a good sign. Anyone have any opinions on this? I started work on the main villain's design but I dunno, it seems fine for a henchman, but this isn't saying leader or sinister. It says quietly confident, it says powerful, but it doesn't scream "THIS IS YOUR VILLAIN!" and I feel like it should.
