planetnamek.com domain name

Post by GS7X7 » Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:26 pm

Who owns the domain name and how much would it cost to buy it back?

If you do, take off robots.txt.

I'd have to know how much it would be to buy it back, plus I don't want to attach my name to it. So probably won't buy it but I figure someone here would be happy to.

But it's mentioned so many times over the years ("hey, why isn't Namek open in the archives!") that I figured I should make a topic about HOW to finally open the site up again. Even after all these years nostalgia for PN still runs strong.

I do miss that site from time to time. PN and Daizex were my main sites back in the day.

Yeah, that is super annoying. A couple years ago, actually, there was a brief window where I could actually bring up planetnamek.com at archive.org, then the bastards who own the domain put up the bloody robots.txt.

I remember the availability of the content via archive.org was one of the consolations for the decision to not mirror the site following the closure. Nobody even considered the possibility of all that content being held hostage like that.

The question is , what would be left on the archives anyway? There's plenty of websites that are only half-complete, God knows what's left and if it would be worth it.

From what I remember of the short time the archives were available, the important text-related stuff was there but a lot of the pictures were missing.

That's often the case, but sometimes entire pages are missing.

PN's archives are AWESOME. There is a HUGE amount of info there. Even as old as it was I remember I was able to make use out of a ton of info there for my site.

I wouldn't worry about the archives being lacking for PN at all.

Now, how do we get in touch with this fellow in Vegas? (only one person should e-mail him, don't want to flood him or bitch at him)

Ah, I miss that site. SkullMac, Mr. E, Kaio... what happened to them?

They stopped being interested in Dragonball as far as I remember.

There was also that little known fourth staff member, Julius or something. Who knows where he went.

To me, and a lot of other older fans who used to consider Planet Namek the Dragonball fansite, any content would be worth it, trust me. I have so many memories of that place it's not even funny. I still love going back to DBZ Uncensored every couple of years and reliving the good (bad? :P ) old days, so the idea of seeing even some amount of the old PN content would make me ecstatic.

How much would it cost? I am interested in perhaps purchasing it some time in Jan-Feb depending on the price.

The person who bought it is most likely a domain squatter and won't give it up for any price, granted he knew how popular it was.

You'll be waiting years and paying at thousands if you're lucky.

I don't know- is it really worth anything?

Seriously, how many PN fans go there and so, "oh, look at all the pretty links to useless stuff" and click there and buy crap there? Most probably get pissed and don't.

Anyway, there's no harm in asking- it might not be too expensive, if luck prevails.
