Who is Goku's archnemesis?

I am not sure if this thread has been done before, but which characters do you view as Goku's arch-enemy since I notice this topic has been talk about on several other Dragon Ball web sites?

I always view Freeza as Goku's most hated enemy since he made Goku mad at a point causing him to turn a SSJ for the first time, and he is one of Goku's most recurring enemy if you go by the anime (He deal with Freeza more the once afterall). But some people think Goku does not have an arch-enemy but what do you think?

His most recurring enemy was Pilaf.
And I do not believe that Goku considers anyone his arch-nemesis. Maybe he would consider Piccolo his arch-nemesis from finding Kuririn's corpse to his death in the Saiyan arc.

Oh yeah I forgot, I should have said "One of his recurring enemy". He did deal with Cell three times in the anime, but I feel like Freeza made me mad and angry at a point never before then his other foes.

You can say Piccolo used to be his archnemesis, but Piccolo became a good guy after getting wish back to life.

Kidding aside, my real guess would be Piccolo Daimao, and temporarily Piccolo Junior before he met Gohan. Goku doesn't really have any one single bad guy who guns after him throughout the entirety of DB and Z. And Vegeta's more of an obsessed rival than archenemy.

I'll go with Dr. Gero. He has all the trappings of an archnemesis. He starts out as a nameless scientist working for the Red Ribbon Army. When Goku topples the RR, he spends years plotting revenge against Goku. He also seeks world domination. He obsesses and spies on him, studying his strengths and weaknesses intent on creating the ultimate weapon to kill him.

He creates androids intent on killing Goku and when that fails, goes after Goku himself. In the end one of his creations actually succeeds in causing Goku's death....Only to have another hero rise up to take his place. I think that arc comes closest to embodying the comic book hero/nemesis tone.

I'd say Piccolo, then Freeza. Though I forgot about Pilaf, and the argument for Dr. Gero is pretty good.

I wonder. When's the last time that Pilaf appeared in the manga? Was it when Piccolo kicked him out of his ship?

I wouldn't have minded a filler episode involving Pilaf returning in Z, if it had been handled well enough. I'm specifically thinking prior to the arrival of Future Trunks. I think Tao in the Cell arc worked better with the general RRA throwback that arc attempted.

I'd say there's two main arch enemies. Frieza and Dr. Gero.

Frieza kinda accounts for all the Saiyans he fought + the Ginyu Force.

Gero accounts for the red Ribbon Army in DB, Androids 17,18,19, Cell, and even more in GT I think (haven't watched it)

I don't think Goku has one real archenemy like a superhero or anything, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Piccolo from the time he met him to when they fought against Nappa. They're enemies because Piccolo Daimaô killed Kuririn and Goku stands in the way of his world domination, and then Piccolo Jr. holds a grudge against Goku for killing his father and tries to follow his father's plan of taking over the world, only for Goku to thwart it once again. But as others have said, Goku doesn't have a single recurring villain. You could maybe consider Vegeta an archenemy, but I see him as more of a rival since the only time they ever really fought good guy to bad guy was in the Saiyan and Boo arcs.

Vegeta wasn't even being a bad guy in the Buu arc. He was just being a whiny obstruction in the way of the actual matter at hand, all so he could flip one more bird to Kakarrot before he left again.
On topic I'd say that Pilaf, Piccolo, Gero, and Freeza are really the only ones that fit the bill. The first 3 were reoccurring threats/nuisances, and Freeza is the sworn enemy of his entire race.

Frieza to me seems the most logical answer. The same tyrant who wiped his entire race clean, killed his best friend, killed his rival and forced his hand into becoming a Super Saiyan. then surviving Namek and almost causing havoc on Earth.
