Title Page Galleries

How many pictures were in the Title Page Gallery of the Japanese version of Dragon Ball Z Volume 27? Did it only have two like the American version? I'm just curious.

Neither Julian nor myself own the original Japanese volume 27, so this one's up to anyone else who might own it...

Sorry, I'm no use. The french version takes out most of the cover images for some deranged reason to keep it flowing like a book or something.

Whoops, the American version only had one picture, and I'm pretty sure the Japanese version had one too.

Oh yeah, you mean the gallery in the back? Sorry, my bad.

Well, for some rason, there weren't any at all in the danish version. Instead, we got a double-length reader mail section*, an ad for a drawing contest, and a list of links to various fansites of extremely low quality. Yay...

*actual letter printed in this volume (which didn't have any of the truly horrible ones):

I am an 8-year old boy who's crazy about your books, and have a few questions for you, which I hope you'll answer. 1. Why are there so many monsters in Dragon Ball? 2. Why is kamehameha such a powerful weapon? 3.Where can one buy Gamyboy- and Playstationgames with Dragon Ball? 4. Can one enter a fanclub? If one can, where is this fanclub located then? 5. Are all 42 issues released? 6. Have you made other comics than Dragon Ball?

and also:

Hi
We are a lot who have started a club that is named: Club Dragon Ball >CDB<, and in that club, we try to make one of the danish channels air Dragon Ball on TV. Vi only need more members, then we count the club as DONE (but it ISN'T sure yet) I just wanted to ask if you too wanted to join the club (so it's a greater chanse that you TOO can happen to see Dragon Ball on a DANISH CHANNEL!). If you's really want to be a member you should just write to: Thedemonlordpiccolo@hotmail.com.
If you'd really like to know more, then you can look it up on our homepage: kdb.subnet.dk
Love, CDB klub
Thedemonlordpiccolo@hotmail.com

(Yet they never printed my letter, where I asked them about some of their translations.. you know, stuff that people might actually be INTERESTED in)

(The site doesn't exist either)

Tanboken volume 27

Cover: SSJ Goku, final form Freeza, Piccolo

fun fact: the number 27 is in where the Kame symbol would normally go on his Gi

As for image title pages in the back:

1. regular Goku doing a basic workout

2.a very nice SS Goku and Freeza image

3. a not as neat but still neat SSJ Goku/Freeza image

Next time I'm on campus I'll take it with me and do some scans

lol

well, we had this small import Japanese store that sold them for $5 a pop, but they had...a limited selection - outside of them I never found anything above volume 33. I got that last one from a foreign exchange student who visited us. Sadly that store went out of buisiness long before I could get more than what I have.

Laserkid, when you were talking about regular Goku doing a basic workout, did you mean the the one where he lifts his hand to make the Spirit Bomb?

One last question.

Does the new kanzenban have the same amount of pictures in the title page gallery like in the tankoben, just more because it has more chapters?

It has the title pages of all the chapters that appear in that volume, including some that never appeared in the original tankoubon. The one exception to this is the title page to chapter 19 (which was used as the cover of volume 2 in the original version)... it seems to have disappeared completely, while the title page for chapter 20 fills its place (as it did in the tankoubon).

So... there you go. :)

Did "double volumes" ever appear in Japan? Glénat, the french editor/publisher of Dragonball is re-releasing the manga as 2 tankoubon in 1 called double volumes. They have EVERY chapter cover and read in the traditional right-to-left format (unlike the french tankoubon). On top of that they're only $2-3 more than a regular tankoubon. Naturally Double Volume 1 came out in french the same month as tankoubon 42, AFTER I bought their crappier tankoubon.

You think you've got the bad deal of Glénat? In The Netherlands we only get the small Glénat manga, you'll probably know them, about half a tankoubon size. And the normal tankoubon aren't coming any time soon, it seems.

So...if I hear your story, we'll get them once we got the 84th of the little Glénats @_@
