U.S Voice Cast Trying To Impress In Raging Blast 1 and 2?

Post by songohan619 » Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:16 pm

I noticed something about the voices while playing Raging Blast 1, and again when I got Raging Blast 2. For example:

Raging Blast 1:
- When Chris Sabat was doing all his voices, he was actually sounding like he was trying to make everyone he was voicing for the last time sound excellent, while playing the roles he will be keeping like they sounded in Dragonball Z, and not Kai. (huh?)

- The actors that were playing their big parts in Dragonball for the last time, like Stephany Nadolny and Linda Young, actually sounded like they were trying to do their best one more time, and not like some of their last games, when they sounded terrible.

- The two new voice actors tried to sound almost identical to their predecessors before doing a bit more of their own thing in Raging Blast 2.

Raging Blast 2:
- Actors who have not appeared in Kai yet, and have kept their roles so far (like Turles and 16) (sound like they are) trying to improve on their roles. I actually thought those two were played by new actors because it was a big improvement from their already well-played parts.

- Some of the voice actors who kept their roles in Kai were trying to be more like their Kai voices, like Vegeta having a less "gruffy" voice.

Are there voice actors that aren't trying to improve on their performance?

In Funimation's case, they're finally starting to act, period.

He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Well, some of the characters sounded really horrible in some of the games, but had a huge improvement in Raging Blast 1 (I think).

They didn't know it'd be the last time.

It's more or less like penguintruth said, they're just improving over time.

I'm not sure about that, but you are probably right.

I think, however, that some of the voice actors had seen some signs, or been told that they possibly would be replaced, because I was actually quite suprised by the change in quality just from Burst Limit to Raging Blast.

songohan619: You do not add 's to something to make it plural -- that makes it possessive. The actors use their voices to bring life to the characters. One character's voice is done via one actor's performance. The characters' voices are all performed by actors.

In general, I get the impression that most games don't have the time spent on them to get the best performances out of the actors. Occasionally a director will really take it upon themselves to get the best work out of their actors, and it wouldn't surprise me if the rejuvenation from Kai is helping everyone out all around.

There's not a matter of "impressing", it's a job. Despite people's perception of the DBZ cast, the actors always put their all into their performance, otherwise they wouldn't continue to get work. They treat every show, every game, every project with the same respect and do the best job they can with what they're given to work with.
