Best theme for Son Gohan?

Post by Rory » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:06 pm

Like a lot of characters in the show, Gohan has received varying themes, from different composers.
But I ask you, members of Daizex, which theme do you think is most fitting for Son Gohan?
I'll list the themes here in case you haven't heard them, or want to refresh your memory on how they sound:

1
"Son Gohan"~ Composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi
A soft/calming theme, which really goes well with Gohan's shy and somewhat crybaby-ish personality.

2
"Son Gohan and Piccolo Daimao"~ Composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi
A light-hearted and adventurous track, usually used during Gohan's training with Piccolo (though it's used at other points, such as his first Super Saiyan transformation)

3
"Unmei no Hi~Tamashī VS Tamashī"~ composed Kenji Yamamoto, performed by Hironobu Kageyama
The BGM played as Gohan finally loses it against Cell, and explodes with rage, unleashing Super Saiyan 2.

4
"Son Gohan's Theme"~ Composed by Kenji Yamamoto
Simply titled and beautifully performed. Though it seems to be a calming melody, it can suddenly break out into a more aggressive tone at any time.

5
"The Golden Warrior"~ Composed by Kenji Yamamoto
A more confident... almost boastful sounding piece than the rest, perhaps fitting with Gohan's attitude when facing Evil Boo?

6
"Gohan vs Freeza"~ Composed by Bruce Faulconer
An intense track, used not only when Gohan battles Freeza, but also when he battles Boo.

7
"Gohan Angers"~ Composed by Bruce Faulconer
Another intense sounding track from Faulconer, used as Gohan becomes a Super Saiyan 2. The synth violins are used at the climax of the scene (which I think work rather well).
NOTE: This song was remixed and used later when Gohan returns to Earth.

8
"Gohan Powers Up"~ Composed by Bruce Faulconer
Has a heroic tone to it, and gives you the feeling that Gohan's true potential is being unleashed.

So what do you guys think? Which is the most fitting, or simply the best tune for Son Gohan?

I think Gohan Angers kicks ass, but I also love the other two Faulconer tracks a lot (especially Gohan Fights Frieza. And Gohan Powers Up fits perfectly when Mystic Gohan arrives)

However, I really dig Spirit VS Spirit as well....especially as of late. In the end, I think I'll go with Gohan Angers.

I didn't like the first one, because it just annoys me. I understand that it fits the tone of Gohan's character, but...meh.

The rest are all brilliant tracks and genuinely gave me chills. I think I'll have to go with "Unmei no Hi~Tamashi VS Tamashi". It characterizes Gohan's calming nature exploding with anger and his overwhelming power well.

Shunsuke's got the best Theme For Saiyan Saga Gohan.

Kenji's Got the most beautiful Theme for Gohan (The Piano One) , but it has a more classical Aproach, The performance is amazingly beautiful, But I would put it aside from the Rest.

Faulconer's themes... Are good... I like the Gohan angers theme but...

But Gohan's Power up... I am more a fan of the japanese, but if there's an epic theme for Gohan it is this! What would faulconer be thinking when he Composed this? out of all his themes this is the very best, The power up of Gohan To mistyc gohan was more like Happy in the japanese of course that's not bad, but this is epic and I prefer epic over happy when increasing Ki :D

But I think it's a Tie between Gohan Power ups and Tamashi Tai Tamashi Hironobu-san's voice is legendary and so is this song, Personally I like the theme they played at the english dub, But geez why play it there? IMO It ruined the moment if you watched the japanese first

In my opinion the best theme for Gohan is with no doubt Unmei no Hi. Personally I think that scene is the most important for Gohan's character: by a little crying baby to a young boy who's able to save the Earth with his extraordinary hidden power. And this song perfectly describes this moment.

"Gohan Powers up" is my favorite out of the list, it fits really well with Buu arc Gohan.

I think that "Son Gohan" fits best for Gohan's character even though I was never that crazy about the track.

I like most of them, but #3, #7, and #8 are my favorites..
For now I'll go with #8, "Gohan Powers Up", it really fits Z-Sword/Ultimate Gohan.

My personal favorite is Unmei No Hi because it summed up his character perfectly.

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

"Son Gohan and Piccolo Daimao" is one of my favorite tracks in all three series. I don't think any character theme comes close to encapsulating an interaction as well as that. You can even hear what parts of the music are supposed to represent Gohan, and which are distinctly Piccolo. It's just really charming.

Gohan fights Frieza.
