Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
I was wondering if any of you guys have any Dragon Ball items that mean something more to you than just a regular DB item. Me? I have this Cell arc base form Vegeta that has detachable hands so they can switch from fists to a cup shape to hold a ki blast! I got it from my grandma on either my 4th or 5th birthday (probably 5th). It just lasted this long with me, and I was considering selling it at my family's yard sale were gonna have later, but decided against it. I would have pics if I had a working digital camera...
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
I mentioned this in the games thread but my friend gave me The Mystery of Shenlong a long time ago and I played it to death and loved it. I would call him up asking for tips and pointers, wrack my last ounce of patience trying to not scream in anger as I passed out from hunger partway through a level and try to recollect the show to understand the dialogue between stages. (Needless to say I had no idea what was going on up in space.) The game wasn't magnificent or anything but the memories associated with it are.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
If it had to be anything, it would probably be the first manga volume of Dragon Ball. My sister got it for me for my 10th birthday, and I have to give credit to her for properly introducing me to the origin of Dragon Ball, and subsequently the manga as a whole.
And Ultimate Battle 22. It's a bad game, but I did have fun playing it with my friend at his house, building up and unlocking characters in Build-Up Mode, which led to me buying it when I later saw it at a shop. It was also pretty much my first exposure to Dragon Ball.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
Funnily enough Dragon Ball Z Season 1 (Orange Brick) because it was my first REAL taste of DBZ uncut in Japanese and I really didn't mind how ugly it looked or how bad the sound was, and the cropping, and the Arabic box sets because they were passed onto me by SHINOBI-03.
When I was a kid I had one of those crappy US DBZ toys made by that company whose name I don't know, it was Vegeta with the armour that came off, it got broken at the waist and I was really really sad when it happened, but my mum glued together and fixed up like new, but I haven't seen it in a long while, it's something I want to put on my shelf, it's probably around here somewhere.
I have just two Viz single issues in my old comic book shoe boxes somewhere, the issue with the Boss Rabbit and the issue with Nappa's cheek getting Kienzan'd, first manga I ever read. They're in terrible condition though...

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
After FUNi had finished putting out the single discs (pre-UUEs), but before they started up the Orange Bricks, I would buy a few singles for cheap on eBay or at GameStop, and, aside from my single DVD of movie six, these were my first exposure to the Japanese version of the show.
Even once I get the Dragon Box set containing the episodes, I'll probably always keep my copy of Fusion - Play For Time. It helped me fall in love with the original Japanese version of the show, and it was my de facto "I had a crappy day, and I want to watch something to cheer myself up with" DVD, and around that time, I had a few crappy days (well, what I considered crappy as a whiny high schooler). As a result, I absolutely love the episodes that more-or-less contain the fight between Gotenks and Super Boo in the RoSaT.
I also had a VHS copy of Androids - Prelude To Terror that was the first bit of Dragon Ball Z footage I ever owned, and I thought I would keep it forever, but I ended up giving it to my mom to give away to the kids in her classroom. It did have some weird, early-era DBZ toy commercials (where a fight between #13 and ... Vegetto (?) was acted out) that I have a soft spot for, and this really abrupt anti-Dragon Ball merchandise piracy commercial that I remember scaring the crap out of me when I was a little kid.
I have an old Irwin Gotenks figure (those ones that came with the weird guns and red dragon balls) that I got for Christmas from my parents way before I had any idea who Gotenks actually was (for reference, my parents also got me a VHS tape of the episodes in which #19 and #20 first appear that year). It's actually kinda janky looking, as far as his face goes, but I still love it to death.
And finally, I have a 25th Tenkaichi Budokai-era poster with Trunks, Goten, Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Piccolo being all happy around palm trees and stuff, and a set of Boo-arc gashopon that came in little plastic dragon balls, both of which were given to me by a close friend for Christmas one year.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
I wish I kept my copies of the first kidmark DB tape and the "Doom" DBZ VHS. If I didn't become a "sub-only" nazi back in the day, I would have cherished them today out of sentimentality.

I believe that's the US release of the Vegeta from Bandai's Super Battle Collection line if I'm not mistaken. http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1033/10112009537.jpg This guy?
I have quite a few I'm sure, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is this Goku balloon my mom got me many years ago for one of my birthdays. It still hasn't deflated to this day! *knock on wood*

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
My love for gashapon dates back to my preteen years when DBZ, Digimon and Reboot were all the rage. My Dad came over from England for a few weeks and took me out to some stores where the shelves were jam packed with Irwin mini gashapons. I picked up a lot of them and ended up throwing them away after a couple years. As the years progressed, my thoughts would always longer on those gashapon and how much fun I had imagining Goku firing a kamehameha at Buu or Piccolo flying up to Kami's lookout (at the time Kami's lookout was my Christmas tree). Anyway, it was always a personal regret of mine that I never kept my collection; so when I entered into university got a laptop and started getting back into anime I started coming across all these Japanese gashapon on Ebay. When I saw these it blew my mind becuase I was so used to the standard quality of American stuff that when I saw these, I just instantly started buying them. And now I'm proud to say that I no longer regret what I lost in the past becuase my collection right now not only makes up for past losses but also fuels one of my favourite hobbies. It's safe to say that the gashapon in my collection (especially the Digital Grade) mean a lot to me.
Otaku at heart.
Come visit me and my collection here!
Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
I hear that. I actually got Dragon Ball seasons two-five just because my girlfriend started to watch the show with me. I mean, I would have bought them eventually, but that was the impetus for buying them sooner than intended. I've only been through each of them once, and that was with her.Rory wrote:My ex got me a Gokuu plush, that I can't seem to get rid of.

So every once in a while I'll glance over at my blue bricks and think, "Geez, if we break up, am I going to be able to watch this series again?"

In that event just try to remember that the series was your love first.

More like hopefully I never place my enjoyment of a children's cartoon on the same mental level as the touch of a human woman, actually.SonEric84 wrote:In that event just try to remember that the series was your love first.Hopefully it doesn't come to that of course!

Well it was mainly in jest. Women come and go...but Dragon Ball is forever.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value

Unfortunately posters were destroyed:(
It's quite an antique- special edition of first Polish magazine about M&A. back then Net was a luxury and that magazine was the main source of knowledge about everything related to M&A. DB and Sailor Moon was the ones honoured with special edition. From these magazine I get to know about "average fighter but brilliant scientist". Most of information come from USA version that wasn't available in Poland back then. I wonder how the redactors got it and don't give the source of all that revelations.
From that time I got completely destroyed VHS with Movie 8 that I try to resurrect from time to time.
Per aspera ad astra, man!

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
My ol' Beckett magazines were so awesome at the time, despite hating the art even then. I remember reading them with my friends in school during breaks, and talking about all the things on the Internet that weren't true. Ah, memories.
Physically, my dented up Super Battle Collection Ultimate Gohan also holds memories for being awestruck when I saw the series at a toy/game store in the Japanese packaging and getting it.

I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

Gee, I dunno. I would probably saaaaaaaaay my Gohan model.
I have all of those old models byyyy... Irwin? Maybe?
Anywho, Gohan was the first one i bought. My friends and I always saved our money up and would each buy a different one and put them together as we hung out. Those things have a lot of memories in them. When I moved out of my parents' house, I found the boxes to each of them and I had a hard time just throwing the boxes away.

Re: Dragon Ball Items with Sentimental Value
DBZ Movies 1 & 2 VHS (Pioneer/Geneon release). My first DB "gift" and my first exposure to the original music and dialogue. I will always remember the warm feelings I had watching these bad boys on Christmas Day 1998.
Dragon Ball "Best Song Collection". My very first anime CD (bought with my own money, nonetheless). At the time, I had no idea it was a bootleg, but I listened to it constantly when I got it. It got me into the DB OP/EDs and the GT songs.
Viz's DB/DBZ "monthlies". 2 chapters per book for $3-4 a pop! Blood! Swearing! Nudity! Correct names! This was some hardcore shizz when I was a lad. I still have these actually; in a box of comics stored somewhere...

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Ah, yes. 18 & 1/2 special was my first anime/Dragon Ball CD. I bought it off my friend for a couple of bucks because for some reason when he bought it he was expecting the dub music to be on it. That was it for me, I fell in love with the Japanese music. I bought the best collection one after also not knowing it was a bootleg, great music nonetheless. So those and the PS games are special to me because they allowed me to continue enjoying the series when it was still stuck in re-run hell for us U.S. fans.

The toys after that line made no sense, DBE styled Dragon Balls and machine guns and swords? What?
