Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?

Post by Ringworm128 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 6:13 am

We all know that the Dragonboxes look a bit blurry on HD TVs. But I remember reading on Kanzentai that the Dragonbox movies dont look that bad on HD TVs so would it be a wise choice to release DBX the Movies on Blu Ray? Think about it Funimation did the same thing last time (DVDs for the series and Blu Ray for the Movies).

I really want Toei to release Dragon Box The Movies on Blu-ray, remastered at 1080p and with lossless audio, preferably remixed. It would look and sound absolutely wonderful.

The movies were made on 35mm film reel. So the movies would look amazing if it was remastered for Blu-ray.

That'd definitely be something... But only if Toei does it. I'm not sure I would want Funi to do one of their upscale releases.

Also if they put it on Blu Ray there would be room for the dub music. So everyone would be happy.

If it's a "Dragon Box" release, it isn't likely that are going to include them, since it's aimed for the fans of the original Japanese version.

Also, NOOOOOOOO!!!

I wouldn't mind if meant they included the Ocean tracks on DBZ movies 1, 2, and 3. :D

I would find it unlikely since (correct me if I am wrong in the case of the movies) the Dragon Box remastering was done by Toei at 480p. A Blu-Ray release would require a whole new remaster, and that certainly isn't something Funimation would do on their own.

True but apparently it looks deacent on a HD TV even with a 480p master.

I know they are different masters, but I can say that I am very happy with the results I get from upscaling my Dragon Box dvds on my 1080p plasma. I know that Funi has at least in the past had a habit of releasing Blu-Rays that were simply upscaled 480p content. There really isn't much reason for those, since any Blu-Ray player will upscale your dvds.

I can say as a fan who prefers the Japanese version over the English one that I really liked the dub soundtracks with "real" music. It's one of those weird things that really wasn't a good idea but the end result still worked somehow. That and I like Disturbed...

Properly upscaled BD releases for SD produced animation is a necessity.

They can't do anything that a player with good upscaling capabilities cannot do.

I don't mind, I'd end up with the dvd version, but thats only if I can get a cooler steelbook first, if I can't finish my steelbook movie collection I won't buy the movies in another release.
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

I managed to make Dragon Ball or even Z "dragon box" footage look good at 1080p, I would love if TOEI actually released 1080p versions without us trying to do it.
