Possibility of Kai soundtrack on iTunes
So, if any of you know, iTunes recently put up Sonic Colors Original Soundtrack Vivid Sound × Hybrid Colors discs 1, 2, and 3. I was thinking that if they can do that for SEGA, could FUNimation ask them to put up the Dragon Ball (Z) Kai soundtrack on iTunes? It makes sense in my opinion. It would also give people less reason to import the soundtracks and get it in North America without having to pay $40~$50 to import it. Do you guys think this could happen?

No, FUNimation doesn't (at the moment). Whichever company releases the soundtrack onto CD does.

How come FUNimation doesn't have the license to the music? I mean, they can dub the music and everything else. How come they don't have the license to the actual music?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:No, FUNimation doesn't (at the moment). Whichever company releases the soundtrack onto CD does.

They have the rights to use the music inside the show. Hence, why they're able to dub some of the vocal songs. They just don't have the rights to release it, which is what the original question was about.ShadowDude112 wrote:How come FUNimation doesn't have the license to the music? But if the Budokai soundtracks can be released on iTunes, which I've seen on there, then that would mean that Atari had the rights to do that or Namco Bandai has the rights to do that. So, what is stopping FUNimaion from gaining the rights to release the actual soundtracks to the show?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:They have the rights to use the music inside the show. I'm fairly sure nothing is. Anime OSTs have been released in America before. My guess is they just don't see it as being profitable.ShadowDude112 wrote:But if the Budokai soundtracks can be released on iTunes, which I've seen on there, then that would mean that Atari had the rights to do that or Namco Bandai has the rights to do that. Re: Possibility of Kai soundtrack on iTunes
I'm pretty sure I can say for all of us that we'd totally support it and want to see more Dragon Ball soundtracks. I mean, we import these things for, what? I think it's around $50. I call bullshit on that. If the soundtrack to Sonic Colors can be $30 for all three discs on iTunes, then all FUNimation needs to do is make the prices just a bit cheaper and not import prices and I bet they can get a profit. I say someone should petition it or e-mail FUNimation about it.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I'm fairly sure nothing is. Anime OSTs have been released in America before. Re: Possibility of Kai soundtrack on iTunes
That's completely different. Sega has all rights to the Sonic Colors music, so it doesn't cost them a dime to put that stuff on iTunes. (Well, in terms of licensing fees. I'm sure there's some kind of cost associated with having your music on iTunes.) FUNimation does not hold any rights to the Kai soundtrack, so they'd have to pay licensing fees and share profits with whoever holds the rights to the music. That coupled with the very niche audience there is for an anime soundtrack makes it not worth it. You're really overestimating how much a domestic release of the soundtrack would sell.ShadowDude112 wrote:I'm pretty sure I can say for all of us that we'd totally support it and want to see more Dragon Ball soundtracks.
