Time Chamber Inconsistancy?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Time Chamber Inconsistancy?

Post by tealsmith » Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:16 am

I was recently re-watching the Buu Saga when I suddenly realized what seemed a fairly obvious inconsistancy in the plot of the story. In the Buu saga, Goten and Trunks train in the Time Chamber on Kami's Lookout. Later on, both Buu and Piccolo come inside as well.

HOWEVER, wasn't one of the major points about the Time Chamber the fact that only 2 people could be in it at once? Hence why Vegeta/Trunks, Goku/Gohan took turns in the Cell Saga. So how is it that suddenly 4 people can be in there?

I haven't watched much of the original anime or read much of the manga, just the dub, so I'm not sure if an explanation for this was ever given, or if it was just Toriyama forgetting what he wrote again. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Woah. How come I've never noticed this...?

I'm a little fuzzy, but maybe the whole two people at a time thing was describing how many people it can accomodate, such as beds, food, etc. Piccolo and Buu just went inside for the fight. Either that or yes, Toriyama's forgetfulness.

Maybe they were refering to the housing capacities? beds, food, overall living space?

I think it was just a trick by Goku so that Vegeta would spend some time with his son. I seem to recall something about that in the series... or maybe I've just read too many Fanfics... Either way, it certainly seems like something Goku would do.

PLOTHOLE. Even if Goku did as a trick like Xyex says, how come it was always done in pairs of two afterwards?

Well there are only two beds and two people living together sometimes causes troubles. Let alone if you have to live together with three or four (not to mention someone would have to sleep on the floor) What I don't get is, when people say how old Chibi Trunks/Goten/Gohan are, did they count the years in the RoSaT?

I don't believe that they were in there for more than a month actually. It just said they were in there for 6-hour periods I believe.

Well, it's supposed to be a year in 24 hours, so 6 hours would still be 3 months

What I meant was that 6 hours passed when inside the Room of spirit and Time. Outside it was about 30 mins. Piccolo said.

That's exactly the case. If you see what Goku says in the sub, he just says that the room can only accomodate two people at a time, not that more people couldn't go in.

Well that all makes perfect sense. Thanks a lot, to everyone who replied :) . So, just a quick recap of the Time Chamber's (or Room of Spirit and Time's) characteristics:

1. Has enough shelter and water/food provisions to hold 2 people at once
2. Has extreme temperature changes
3. Lower oxygen content
4. 10 times normal gravity
5. Completely endless
6. A person can only be in the time chamber for 2 days, or a total of 48 hours.

Yea, about that. Was it stated as to why a person cannot be in the chamber for more than 2 days?

I can't remember who said it, but in the dub someone mentions that if a person stays in the Time Chamber for more then 2 days, then the door to that dimension seals off, and whoever is in there is trapped forever (like when Piccolo blew up the door when Gotenks was battling Buu, but of course Buu found a way out). What I'm not sure of is if this is 48 hours in a row, or 48 hours all together.

Well, as I recall (correct me if I'm mistaken), Piccolo went into the Room of Spirit and Time twice before the Cell Games. So I guess it would be a consistent 48 hours as opposed to an individually assorted 48 hour time-span.

I do believe he only went in once.

Order of ROSAT uses:

1. Goku while training with Kami prior to the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament (though he only stayed in for about 2 months I believe)
2. Vegeta and Trunks while Imperfect Cell was rampaging (1 year)
3. Goku and Gohan and Vegeta and Trunks did battle with Cell (1 year)
4. Piccolo in preperation for the Cell games (1 year)
5. Vegeta in preperation for the Cell games (1 year)
6. Gohan and Trunks training to fight Buu (a few weeks maybe)
7. Piccolo, Gotenks, Buu (several hours)

That's pretty much the order as far as I know.

He might have gone in twice. Someone confirm if this is correct or not, but I remember Son Goku telling Piccolo to use it as well, even thought he wouldn't stand much of a chance against Cell.

I suppose it's 48 hours in your entire life or at least with a recharging time or something in between. Otherwise it would be pretty pointless because you could then stay in for 47 hours 59 minutes, come out for two minutes and go back in.
