Japanese Dragon Boxes - Real?
Sorry to be THAT guy, but I'm really curious. I go to amazon.co.jp all the time and see these:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/DRAGON-BALL-DVD ... 427&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.co.jp/DRAGON-BALL-DVD ... 427&sr=8-3
http://www.amazon.co.jp/DRAGON-BALL-DVD ... 27&sr=8-11
http://www.amazon.co.jp/DRAGON-BALL-DVD ... 427&sr=8-7
http://www.amazon.co.jp/DRAGON-BALL-DVD ... 27&sr=8-14
These are supposedly the Dragon Boxes, with prices listed on them. What I'm interested in is... is this real? How come more people don't get Dragon Boxes from them? I mean yeah, there is no picture of the product, so strike one. But other than that, does this look legit? I want the freaking Dragon Boxes! And I can't read anything there. So what do you guys think, is this real? Is this reliable? Can I conceivably get Dragon Boxes from here? And since I can't read any of it, what are the prices looking like? Any shipping details? Sorry, I don't mean to drive any of you nuts by asking an amateurish question or anything, but this is pretty much the last milestone for me to hit before completing my personal collection.

Re: Japanese Dragon Boxes - Real?
Yes, they're "real". Those are just the regular ol' catalog listings on Amazon Japan. The pictures there are the promo art pieces that were released before the products were finalized (you'll see that a lot with Japanese products, where they never update with a "real-life" picture of the product and just stick with old promo art).
There's nothing new and in-stock for you to buy from there, though. They've been sold-out for eons.
For an equivalent, it's like if you went to our Amazon and searched for Dragon Quest V -- you'd get this page, which is its regular catalog listing page, except that you can't order it from Amazon anymore... you can only order it second-hand from individual sellers.
It's the same thing on Amazon Japan with the Dragon Boxes. People are selling used copies of them there. They probably won't sell to you unless you live in Japan with a Japanese mailing address.
For example, the DBGT set has 28 used from ¥14,800, and 1 collectible from ¥24,500 (people usually classify "collectible" as either never opened, or perfect condition with all of the original packaging).

Thanks man. I saw some prices and figured that it was "used" and "collectible." I'd still go for a "used." Would you be able to decipher if there are any "used" listings for those? I mean maybe I should run it through a translator and see what it says about conditions and whatnot. I'd be willing to get a used since finding new ones is pretty much impossible at this point. And the ones I see on Ebay are really expensive. I just wonder if I could get some from Japan's Amazon page for less than $1,500 lol
But thank you, you'z iz da man.

Amazon.jp sellers will not ship to the USA so you'll have to use a proxy service which will cost another arm and leg..

Well looks like I'm saving up a small fortune to get ones I've seen. Hope they're not sold by that time. Ooh tax return soon... well soon enough.

I've seen a condition of a used item, listed as "Used - Pets" in Amazon Japan, when I was using Google translator. My question is what does that means?
Re: Japanese Dragon Boxes - Real?
Clearly it means the sellers cats and dogs watched the DVDs.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:I've seen a condition of a used item, listed as "Used - Pets" in Amazon Japan, when I was using Google translator. My question is what does that means?

It probably means the item comes from a home with pets in it.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:I've seen a condition of a used item, listed as "Used - Pets" in Amazon Japan, when I was using Google translator. My question is what does that means?
You often see sellers, particularly clothes sellers, state whether or not whatever they're selling comes pet-free and smoke-free.
Re: Japanese Dragon Boxes - Real?
Too bad they don't ship over here. And that the English language isn't included.

Why on Earth would a dvd set of a Japanese show, released in Japan for a Japanese audience have an English language track. That is as logical as if I said, "Too bad my Supernatural Season 5 dvds don't include Afrikaans audio."Bardo117 wrote:Too bad they don't ship over here. And that the English language isn't included.

Re: Japanese Dragon Boxes - Real?
Yeah I've made my peace with the lack of English track, not that I ever expected one anyway. I have all of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z so many times over, that it doesn't even matter. At this point it's just to have the best LOOKING version of the show. Unfortunately, the movies, Dragon Ball, and GT look less and less likely to come out with Dragon Boxes om tje IS, since there was such hype over the Dragon Box, it was basically advertised for fans, as if by fans (with the stupid lines like "Over 9000" and "the balls are inert" and whatnot for the first and second set) with it not even getting commercials anymore because the oh-so-precious Kai is getting released. Well in my opinion, the value of Kai compared to the Dragon Boxes is that Kai is the insignificant, younger, distant third cousin twice removed who grew up in a trash can and went to Juvi compared to the Dragon Boxes.
