Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
IF Kai is canceled, how will the fans react? Will Kai DVDs continue to be manufactured and sold, will the Dragon Boxes be affected in any way and what else might happen due to Kai's cancellation? Remember this is only a hypothetical question.

Kai looks to be ending? To me, it seems unsure of wanting to progress into Buu...
As for what would happen, I guess collections would be 2/3 complete.

Oh man, I'm sorry. I meant ending with the Cell arc, not being taken off the air forever. I'm sorry.

It's also no secret that merchandise sales are going down tubes, so Kai ending after Cell wouldn't really be surprising anyone, so the reaction might not be that "big". DVDs would be made up through the Cell Arc and that's that. I mean honestly Kai is nothing new, just a rehashed cut version of Z, so I don't understand the big concern over it.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.
Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
Well for me personally DBZ Kai is just something to watch. It's not like watching DBZ on Toonami after school when I was 11. I just think it will be interesting to see the reaction of the people that think that DBZ Kai is better than DBZ

Lol it's by no means better. I'm grateful for it in a way as it gave toy companies an excuse to rehash toy merchandise, but apart from that if it ends I wouldn't lose my marbles over it. I would like to see them complete Buu though just so I could get some extra figures out of it. Lol.

Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
My exact feelings towards Kai. If the series might have been re-animated, maybe my interest would have been different. But, it's just the same show speeding through the story with new animation scenes dropped into the old footage. This is one of my main problems with the series. These new scenes really stand out!Kakarotto wrote:Well for me personally DBZ Kai is just something to watch, its not like watching DBZ on Toonami after school when I was 11 ...
But, I digress. What sort of fallout could one expect from "this" cancellation? Nothing really, what's done is done. They can look at it as a failed experiment. Maybe next time things can be done differently.
Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
There is new music AND new voices. What more do you want? Not to mention it's also being released on Blu-ray! I don't care about the animation; it could be scribbles on paper for all I care (Which is basically what it is, but you know what I mean).Chibi Gohan wrote:I mean honestly Kai is nothing new, just a rehashed cut version of Z, so I don't understand the big concern over it.
Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
The fact that it's on Blu ray is irrelevant. If you want anime in high def there are plenty of other options and I'm not speaking of FUNimation's upscales either. The fact is that Kai is essentially the Special Edition of Star Wars. It really wasn't necessary and it really didn't add anything to the experience.Echo64 wrote:There is new music AND new voices, what more do you want, not to mention it's also being released on Blu-ray! Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
Well, to be honest, even though I've watched Kai from the beginning (and will continue until it ends) I haven't actually bought any of the DVD's. If Kai had been made completely from scratch with brand-new animation, I would've bought them. The thing is, with what Kai actually is, I'd rather buy the Dragon Boxes (which reminds me I need to finish watching the current one so I can go buy the next one) because I only really watch the show in Japanese nowadays and I'd rather have Z.
Kai does have a better English dub than Z in my opinion though. Lots of improved performances.
I do want Kai to continue on into the Buu arc though. I feel it'd be kind of unfair to those who do prefer it to Z and want to have the complete series.
If Kai does end with the Cell arc though, and if it does kick off some sort of Dragon Ball drought...I guess I'd be OK. Life marches on and all that. It feels like the drought's been creeping in for a while, but slowly, it's not full-blown yet. I don't know how much spare time I'll have by the end of the year anyway.
On a lighter note, how interesting would it be if Kai ends while TFS's DBZ Abridged continues all the way through and finishes the entire series? :3

On hiatus.

But it is better. Think what you want, but DBZ was a pretty terrible adaption of the comic. The pacing was absolutely terrible.Kakarotto wrote:I just think it will be interesting to see the reaction of the people that think that DBZ Kai is better than DBZ.

Well I partially agree with this. I think of Kai as more of a Director's cut. It isn't adding filler, it's taking it away. There aren't CG frogs on Namek to get a better feel of it. Not to mention it isn't changing scenes, a la Greedo shot first, DBZ already did most of that. Even then it wasn't much. I think Kai does a lot for DBZ, it makes it a much more enjoyable show.

Well if I may say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and if aspects of Dragon Ball Z were so terrible, it would not have been so popular during the late 90's. Today Kai does not have the same amount of attention as Dragon Ball Z did in the past. Kai has not even been finished, so how is one able to accurately compare the two. With out Dragon Ball Z there is no Kai.AgitoZ wrote:But it is better. Think what you want, but DBZ was a pretty terrible adaption of the comic. Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
If Kai was canceled... I wouldn't really care. I'm not a really big fan of kai though I do prefer the original dbz.
Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
I would be extremely pissed if we didn't get to have the Buu Saga in Kai.
I'm watching Kai for the dub, so for me, there would be a great loss. I want to see more from Funi, if Kai continues in Japan, if they pay Toei for the footage and music, or if they even have to go back to Z and redub it.
Frankly, the loss of the Dragon Boxes continuing would bother me less than no more dubbed Kai (though, redubbed Dragon Boxes, Kai style, would be awesome. And I'd only need one set to enjoy both Japanese and English fully).

Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
It's really a shame that Kai faces the possibility of being cancelled. Despite the censorship, and unnecessary "re-animated", "traced" animation conundrums, I love the idea of Kai. It offers such a wonderful opportunity to entice a new generation of fans.
Case in point, my cousin of the age of 13 gained interest in the Dragonball title. Bright kid, and I suppose all those years staring at that poster finally piqued his interest. He started bombarding me with questions about the series' characters, and why the tail-end of the series involved such an array and blondies with spiky hair. I was under the impression that he had already viewed a majority of the series during it's run on TV; apparently not! I decided to start him off on a dosage of Kai, and he is now hooked on the series.
I suppose it works out in some twisted way though for the franchise's preservation. I assume the newly initiated would proceed with a hunt towards completing the remainder of the story through the 'Z' releases, and potentially fall in love with the original rendition instead.

There was. That doesn't mean that it couldn't have been popular.Well if I may say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and if aspects of Dragon Ball Z were so terrible, it would not have been so popular during the late 90's.
As a kid I've watched toons of shows that now I wouldn't touch with long pole. I liked them despite of millions of cons that now make me feel embarrassed. Popularity is hilarious thing that can't be predicted only by advantages and disadvantages.

Re: Dragon Ball Kai apocalypse
I wouldn't really care to be honest.
I was initially looking forward to Kai after hearing about the so-called "refreshed" animation, but it never even came close to those expectations. It was supposed to keep closer to the original manga and yet some unnecessary filler would still remain, the new dubbing and music wasn't enough to retain my interest either. It has always come off as some poor attempt to revive the franchise to milk as much money as they could; it was only a matter of time before went dry, so for it to be ending prematurely is not surprising at all.

Out of curiosity, shouldn't we have gotten an official announcement by this time if DBK is supposed to end in 4 weeks?
While I'm not that fond of Kai myself, as a DB fan in general , knowing something DB releted flunked would upset me. I mean, I'm not interested in games, yet when I hear the sales aren't doing great in that section either, it somehow saddens me.
As for the dissapointment that kai hasn't been reanimated from scratch, I can't say I agree. If you look at Toei now a days you'd know what I mean. Hell, I don't even really like how the DB characters are drawn today.

Well considering it's still that far off I don't think we would've gotten an announcement yet. Even if Kai stops airing we still probably won't get an announcement about it. Most shows aren't declared canceled, they just stop airing, never to be seen again. Hopefully someone will ask for confirmation if/once that happens.Michsi wrote:Out of curiosity, shouldn't we have gotten an official announcement by this time if DBK is supposed to end in 4 weeks?
