Dragon Ball Z Kai - Boys and Girls Club Edits

Yeah, this is probably interesting for most of ya'll. The Boys and Girls Club that I assist at has requested me to make edits to certain shows they want to air throughout the program hours in the summer in the Games Room (Where kids can watch TV while they eat their food) and Dragon Ball Z Kai is on of the shows I have been requested to edit.

Since they are pretty laid back on some things, they gave me a list of what to edit. Some blood I can keep, some I can't. So far, I only have a few edit mock-ups in mind, and these are two of them. Note these aren't the final versions, so the edits might change at anytime.

Everything looks good, except the intro change. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Just stick One of the 30 versions of Dragon Soul we already have where it's in English.
FUNimation's goal with this was to produce a new dub for a new generation, fixing all the mistakes with the old dub, including the replacement of the music.

What you did with the Intro here, IE replacing it with the old FUNimation Orange Brick Opening theme for their dub, is a Step back, and is basically spitting on all the hard work FUNimation put into this.

This is a bad idea. The free version of Hypercam has an annoying watermark, and in addition to that I gather from the opening post that the entire point is to have less edits than the TV versions.

Anyway, let's talk about the edit mockups. The first one is pretty seamless save for the music, and I'm not sure how avoidable that is. Do the Kai DVDs have a 5.1 mix? If so, it might be possible to seperate the voices and music here and replace the insert song with a more seamless version a la the Nicktoons broadcast.

As for the second edit, I'm not sure what's going on. You seem to have replaced the shot of Freeza being cut in half with... the same shot, except lower quality and squashed. That doesn't show any less than the original version, it's just weird. You could probably snip away that shot altogether, though, and just show Freeza falling to the floor.

I really don't get why you would change the opening though, especially to something as boring as the Orange Brick theme.

I'm interested in this. If not just so people can help you come up with ideas to edit it, it might be cool to see the contrast between what TV networks and ordinary people find acceptable.

I just changed the intro for fun...it DOESN'T make sense when you think about it I probably will change back to normal.

These are the list of edits:

- Removal of any swearing (Hell, shit, damn etc.; This makes me wonder if I should keep Goku's "OH CRAP!" line)
- No serious blood shed (A little blood is allowed, such as nosebleeds)
- Serious life threatening dialouge (This makes it confusing on what dialouge to keep; I might trim audio from the Nicktoons edits on some of this)
- Attacks that can be easily imitated. (Which means I might pull a Nicktoons and some face contact punches will be replaced with a white flash; Not all punches, attacks and grabs will be edited though)

That's it. Some more edit examples might be up this week.

That depends on what age range you are editing this for. If you're in the 14-18 age range, it might be possible to leave some "Hell", "Damn", and "Crap" swearing here and there. But if you're aiming this towards kids that are ages 5-10, I would recommend just taking the Nicktoons dub and adding it to parts that have swearing in it. Either that or the 4Kids edit. Talk to your employers and see what you can do. If all fails, I would recommend getting the Media Downloader add-on for Firefox and just rip the episodes from Nicktoons.com.

I have a better idea. Don't waste your time and edit anything at all, and when you are supposed to air it bring Rick Roll video on the CD.

Well the Boys & Girls Club age range is 6-18 so I'm having a balanced version of edits; hence why I'm not using Nicktoons (but I might use some of their dialouge edits) I'm keeping most of the blood, since in reality, most kids aren't gonna flip over blood, but just not a whole splew of blood. Besides, I don't wanna be lazy and show the Nicktoons version, when I can edit it myself and keep myself occupied while I do this, my Sonic Eggs series for the club and the Unofficial Buu Saga

So yeah, more edits to come, but thanks for the feedback!

Remind you, I did say these are a WIP and I did plan on re-editing the Freeza sliced in half scene. A new version of that edit will come soon.

Also starting tommorow or tonight I'll start editing 3 episodes per day.
