Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Don't know how many of you remember
this scene, but Vegeta seems to be searching for Goku when suddenly some strange golden explosion appears on a meteor. After the explosion there's a small light that looks like a SSJ Goku, but it's gone when Vegeta arrives on the spot.
So what do you think happens here? Is Vegeta hallucinating?
Personally I like to believe that it was really Goku using Shunkan Ido, which he is learning at the moment on Yardrat.

However, it's a scene in the Garlic Jr. Arc and I doubt that's what the staff had in mind.

Also, the English dub is a little different here. In the Japanese version he seems convinced in the end that it was him, because only he could create that crater.

Haha, that is a kind of cool thought. I suppose Vegeta's would be one of the more easy ones to lock onto for training.

The anime staff created a small filled which Vegeta found Goku. I don't think it's strange, even if when was I child this was somewhat misterious...

Goku using Shunkan Ido is the best explanation I've ever come across. I'm 99.999% sure the manga was far enough at that point for them to know that the technique was so they probably did that as a preemptive reference.

If he had locked onto Vegeta's Ki signal he would've appeared nearer to him, but it was a great distance away.

I doubt the anime staff had such understanding of the technique at that point

I remember this scene as well, and got the impression that Goku was teleporting around. If the manga was far enough ahead of the anime at this point, the writers certainly could have had that in mind.
Also, just because you need to lock onto someone's Ki to teleport, doesn't mean you have to appear right next to them. Goku could have actually been practicing with that aspect, seeing how far away he could materialize himself from the person he was using as a "Ki anchor." And Vegeta wandering about in space would make a very good test subject!

Goku using Vegeta as a test subject.
I imagine if he tried that multiple times it would only end in irritating the living daylights out of Vegeta. XD
On hiatus.

Maybe you could refresh my memory then; so when in the manga was the technique shown to materialize Goku that far away from its target?
Another thing that bothers me about these filler scenes is how they play around with concept of Saiyans being able to breathe in space.

I don't think it ever was, but they also never stated he couldn't. He'd just never had any reason to.

It was shown that Goku could teleport to the back of his opponent to surprise him or in front of him or in any other direction basically.
So, it does show us that Goku has some control over where he appears when he locks on to someone. We just don't know how far away from that person he can teleport himself while still being locked on to that person.
