Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
So, what does everyone think of how FUNimation will release the set? My personal preference would be the one big box, and that way of releasing would be identical to the size of a U.S Dragon Box anyway.
So mondo lame.

Re: Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
Yes, absolutely! It should be just one box set containing all of the Z Movies (assuming FUNi doesn't have the rights to the Dragon Ball movies). I like the idea of having them all in one place rather than having to consider which box, which movie, etc.
Also a quick question, Would there be enough space to fit all 13 Z Movies into a set with the same amount of discs as the US Z Dragon Boxes? I'd imagine this will be a VITAL point to consider in deciding how to release set(s). For me personally, if there wasn't enough space and it meant compromising video or audio quality, I'd be alright with two boxes. Otherwise, one all the way!

Well, I personally think they should do it like the spanish sets -- divide them in half, including the TV specials -- 1-8 in one box, and 9-13 + the two specials in another. A single set would probably be too expensive, and anything else would be too annoying.

So, yes, it is possible to fit all 13 movies in one box and make it the same size as a U.S. Dragon Box.DragonBoxZTheMovies, on another thread, wrote:Disc 1:
DBZ Movies 1, 2 and 3
Disc 2:
DBZ Movies 4 and 5
Disc 3:
DBZ Movies 6 and 7
Disc 4:
DBZ Movies 8 and 9
Disc 5:
DBZ Movies 10 and 11
Disc 6:
DBZ Movies 12 and 13
PERFECT!

Re: Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
Yeah, I'm all for 2 Movies per disc. But even if they didn't want to have 3 on a disc, they could easily make it a 7 Disc set and it would be the same size. Just one of the containers would hold 4 discs instead of 3.

I think that Dragon Box: The Movies will not have the two tv specials, Plan to Eraticate the Super Saiyans or Heya! Son Goku and his Friends Return!! I think that those will be double features later on.

Re: Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
FUNimation doesn't have access to the two OVA's in general and they don't have access to the two specials in Dragon Box format. So, they cannot release the specials with Dragon Box footage in singles or the OVA's.emperor pilaf wrote:I think that Dragon Box: The Movies will not have the two tv specials, Plan to Eraticate the Super Saiyans or Heya! I really don't foresee the 2008 Special anywhere in the near Future considering Japan doesn't even have a legit DVD release of it yet. You know how Toei is with reverse importing.

Re: Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
I think they should do it as a 7 disc set, if nothing else, because I'm not comfortable with movies 1-3 being squeezed onto one disc. Sure, it may have been that way on the Japanese box without problems (?), but don't forget that the domestic release will include subtitles and an extra audio track, thus taking up more bitrate.
This is how I think it should be:
Disc 1: Movies 1-2
Disc 2: Movies 3-4
Disc 3: Movies 5-6
Disc 4: Movies 7-8
Disc 5: Movies 9-10
Disc 6: Movies 11-12
Disc 7: Movie 13 (has surround Japanese audio, unlike 1-12, which have mono)
This is how I think it should be:
Disc 1: Movies 1-2
Disc 2: Movies 3-4
Disc 3: Movies 5-6
Disc 4: Movies 7-8
Disc 5: Movies 9-10
Disc 6: Movies 11-12
Disc 7: Movie 13 (has surround Japanese audio, unlike 1-12, which have mono)

Right, and we don't want the bitrate to drop. We want this release's quality to be as close to the Japanese as possible. The Dragon Box footage for the movies looks gorgeous, and I wouldn't want the quality to drop, regardless of how little it would because of the three movies on one disc.
So mondo lame.

Where'd the general consensus that they don't "have access to" the four Dragonball movies come from again?

The initial press release from 2009. Personally, I think it's possible they could've gained them in two years time.nathantheguitarist wrote:Where'd the general consensus that they don't "have access to" the four Dragonball movies come from again?

But they did just release their own remastered 4-pack.ShadowDude112 wrote:The initial press release from 2009. They do have crappy masters of the movies given to them by Toei. But they do not have access to the Dragon Box footage of the four movies.funrush wrote:But they did just release their own remastered 4-pack.

Re: Dragon Box: The Movies - General Discussion Thread
The four DB movies, even if FUNi has access to them, probably wouldn't make it onto the US DBox: The Movies for the simple fact that their DBox advertising campaign seems to solely focus on DBZ at the moment.
As for everything else Z-Era related, the two regular specials and the JSAT Special would be a great addition to the set, but I don't realistically expect them. If they were added, though, I'd be a Day 1 Buyer for sure.

I probably won't buy the Dragon Boxes for the movies. I don't have a need to double dip on the movies, I'm fine with my double features which took forever to get all of them.

I would have started collecting the Double Features if it wasn't for FUNimation's Tweet on upcoming information for their Dragon Box: The Movies. The Double Features aren't bad releases at all, but I held off just in case there would be a Dragon Box release for the movies.thedarkuniter wrote:I probably won't buy the Dragon Boxes for the movies. Since they don't have the proper title cards or credits, the steelbooks are utter shit to me.
Once a listing for DBox: The Movies is up on RightStuf!, I'm pre-ordering it, even if they aren't having a sale that affects it.

I think they could just have the same height as the US Dragon Boxes, and just be longer.
