DBZ Movie 9 DVD: Edited vs Uncut Differences
I was thinking of picking up the movie 9 single online and saw how this one place was selling it for like 6 bucks edited. What I wanted to know was what the differences are between the edited and unedited versions. I assume the edited version is just the English dub with no Japanese title cards or tracks?

That's essentially it. The edited versions have some extremely minor cuts and dialogue changes on top of that, but they're apparently not something you'd notice unless you were looking specifically for them. What Up Namek! wrote:I assume the edited version is just the english dub with no japanese title cards or tracks?

Check out this uncut video.
IIRC, everything was cut between 4:30 and 5:15.
Edit: Typically you lose around 2 minutes of video when you buy the edited versions of these films.

Oh wow, why did they cut out that part? Aside from the fist impaling there really isn't much here to edit out. I can't comprehend dub companies.Tyro wrote:Check out this uncut video.

The bit where Gohan kicks in half one of Bojack's underlings when he becomes SSJ2, I'm sure will be cut out.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Actually if I remember correctly it wasn't, oddly enough.DBZ Mick wrote:The bit where Gohan kicks in half one of Bojack's underlings when he becomes SSJ2, I'm sure will be cut out.

At this point in the series' lifespan? FUNimation seemed to make "edited" versions of the DVDs specifically to sell to retailers who would think an "Uncut" release too controversial, or perhaps for the sake of having a pseudo-consistent release even if an edited one. In most the cases the edits were minimum and, sometimes, less edited than a Cartoon Network broadcast would be.What Up Namek! wrote:Oh wow, why did they cut out that part? In the case of the movies, most of the cuts just seem to be there just for the sake of making it an "edited" version.
Re: DBZ Movie 9 DVD: Edited vs Uncut Differences
The edited releases were essentially just "the Cartoon Network version." The other movies had a few edits done to themm too, like the choking scene from Movie 6 and they digitally edited out the blood when Cooler squeezed blood. Movie 7 had the nut punch edited out, as well as the Vegeta backbreaker and Android 15's drinking on several occasions. Android 13's swearing was edited too. After Movie 11, though, they stopped releasing an edited version entirely, and Movies 12 and 13 aired completely uncut on Cartoon Network.
Also, the movies were the only Funimation Z releases to have the edited version released on DVD as well. IIRC, the edited episodes were only released on VHS.

Actually, I think Movie #12 had the Dictator stuff removed on the CN airing.

^They did when they air the movie #12 and #13 back in 2006. Surprise they did not air the ultimate uncut edition of Movie 1-3 back in 2005 when they where playing the Ultimate Uncut episodes.

Toonami didn't treat the Ultimate Uncut line very well (although they treated it better than FUNi themselves did).Hellspawn28 wrote:^They did when they air the movie #12 and #13 back in 2006. Considering they only gave the UUE eps a single complete run-through, they probably didn't even want to bother with the movies, especially considering that the cuts to Dead Zone and the World's Strongest in their edited Pioneer Form were already available to them, as uncut as the UUEs would be if they aired at the same time on the network, and would get the same ratings either way (and their "Toonami faithful" would probably like seeing their classic versions over new dubs anyway), they probably considered the UUE movies not worth the investment.
... it probably didn't help that this was a short time before CN's "Dark Age" where they were purging anime (and nearly all their 90s'-era programming) off the network, killed the Toonami/Toonami-like and Fridays blocks, and threw in terrible live-action programming that nearly killed the network.
