DB and DBGT Dragon Boxes

Post by Luke Groundwalker » Sun Jul 24, 2011 11:45 pm

How do you think Funimation should release these?

As we can see with the DBZ boxes, Funimation released these in seven parts. In Japan the Dragon Boxes are much bigger, and include the entire series in two different boxes.

Do you think Funimation will do something similar to the Dragonball Dragon Boxes? If so, what would be an appropriate episode number to evenly spread out the episodes amongst each box? Would you prefer them to continue that, or just release the entire series into a massive collection?

This is something I've been thinking about, and I'm curious if Funimation will attempt to continue with the format with these while still retaining a similar aesthetic. I must say that everything about these "small" Funimation boxes I love in design, and I wonder if they'll do something based on the actual Dragonball Dragon Box that's in Japan, or continue the theme from the DBZ Dragon Boxes with the other series.

Personally I could imagine Funimation releasing GT into a single Dragon Box, or maybe two with each having 32 episodes in it. Dragonball could almost be evenly spread through five different box sets, with around 30+ episodes each (depending on the box)

Now I just don't think they will release those at all. :(

This thread is about "how" they should be released, not "whether or not" they're going to get released.

If they release them (and it's a big if) I would imagine they would continue to split the series up like they did with DBZ. I would imagine they would split GT right down the middle, and do DB in 4 or 5 boxes. Basically the way they did with the "season" sets.

One box for both of them, but that probably won't happen. So two boxes for Dragon Ball and one for GT? :)

That would be around 76 episodes each. I would say, if they're the same size as the Z boxes, 4 for DB, and 1 longer box for DB.

That would be perfect for me, it would look better with two. It doesn't look that good with the 7 Dragon Boxes now, it's the yellow line between every volume that looks bad.

I severely doubt they'd include the movies in the boxes.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I don't know if I'd even want the movies to be mixed up with the series.
But yeah, if there's more money to be made, why the hell throw them in the sets?

3 Boxes for Dragon Ball would be nice, with 51 episodes in each one.

AAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

After reading the first post, I thought FUNi had acquired the DB and DBGT Dragon Boxes, and I went running through the forum trying to find an announcement thread.

Actually, I think 42 episodes would be better, because looking at the episode list, each set would cut off at just the right spot. The first would end with the episode where Goku leaves Jingle Village and set 2 would begin with him going to West City (complete with a new eyecatcher to boot). Set 2 would end on the first episode of the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament arc, where everyone arrives. Box 3 would end with the episode where everybody is wished back to life.

Yeah but with 3 boxsets there's fewer releases and more episodes per box.

Well, his question was (paraphrasing) ''How do you think FUNimation will release the DB/GT Dragon Boxes?'' and I answered: ''They won't''. :) It is meaningless to speculate on this since the boxes probably won't be released in the first place. That's what I meant with my reply. Also, maybe he wasn't aware of that, so I was saying his belief that the boxes would be released was unfounded.

But it was really my fault, I guess. I probably should have mentioned my reason for thinking this. Oh well, there it is if anyone is curious. :D
