Screenshots of Dragon Ball Manga on VIZ Manga App (iPhone)
For those of you who are interested or unaware, VIZ has had an iPhone compatible version of the VIZ Manga app for some time now (previously for iPad) and now has the first chapters for both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z for free. Here are some screenshots of how they look. (I could not find a topic or reply with this information. If there already is one, I apologize. Also, pictures are from the iPhone app. I don't know if there is a difference between this and the iPad app.)

It is pretty much the same as the graphic novels that were released before the VIZ Bigs, which means no coloured pages. But they are in really high quality, aside from being a tad blurry. Same goes for DBZ.

if I had an iWhatever at all, I'd probably get these just to have the manga on the go.

I'd buy manga digitally if it was on Android. More people use it anyway. Also, anything that is based on Linux just wins. Any day of the week. But, then again, I might not buy it because I own all of the series already.

It's definitely not the same as my version of Dragon Ball Vol. 1 (at least Chapter 1). Bulma says one quick peek in the App version, but my volume says feel.

Dude the whole Viz translation is censored like crazy, if your gonna read Viz then why would it even matter
Re: Screenshots of Dragon Ball Manga on VIZ Manga App (iPhon
But the whole Viz translation ISN'T censored. My copies of the Dragon Ball material keep in uncensored nudity, middle fingers, etc. I'm pretty sure they're the first prints of the SJ print of Dragon Ball, back when Viz was doing a lot more uncensored, before they became Viz Media, and suddenly, censorship exploded back into popularity (I think the changed from Zoro to Zolo happened around then too...Viz needs to have good people return to the reigns).Nex Carnifex wrote:Dude the whole Viz translation is censored like crazy, if your gonna read Viz then why would it even matter

So are mine, but the translations of censored, like the text. They make it more kiddy and awkward.Mewzard wrote:But the whole Viz translation ISN'T censored. Kiddy dialogue in a comic for kids? Stop the presses.Nex Carnifex wrote:So are mine, but the translations of censored, like the text. They make it more kiddy and awkward.
But really, their translation isn't that bad. Sure, they change certain names, replace the swears with the awkward "darn, curses, etc.", and the occasional line change. But that's probably it as far as censoring the dialogue.

No, they replace things with stupid jokes, like instead of "wow, that's the kamehameha? thats amazing" its "isnt that a king of hawaii"? And yeah replacing swears with annoying baby words like phooie and calling bullets "little ouchies" just make it awkward and annoying, they also make the characters act dumb sometimes using baby words like master roshi for some unsuccessful humorous attempt, like "but then the little girly cant get the dwagon bawl" is that really nessesary? Have him talk normal like before. And the beggining is completely changed, they try to hard with bulma and her predictable insults, calling him a country bumpkin was fine and cute, they took that out. Ok it's for kids, but not little little kids, its a shonen. That's why they didn't censor it, but why censor the translations then? You guys translated Naruto completely fine.AgitoZ wrote:Kiddy dialogue in a comic for kids? Stop the presses.Nex Carnifex wrote:So are mine, but the translations of censored, like the text. First of all I mentioned that Viz changes the occasional line and even then it isn't filled with them. I wouldn't say it makes the dialogue awkward and many are pretty in-character.Nex Carnifex wrote:No, they replace things with stupid jokes, like instead of "wow, that's the kamehameha? thats amazing" its "isnt that a king of hawaii"? Well it is for little kids and they do censor it. Isn't that what the majority of your rants are about? As for how they handle I'm not in the know. But it's pretty rare for it and many SJ series to be completely left in tact.Nex Carnifex wrote:Ok it's for kids, but not little little kids, its a shonen. Re: Screenshots of Dragon Ball Manga on VIZ Manga App (iPhon
Nope, I was only frustrated with the translation not the censorship of the manga since mine is completely uncensored surprisingly. Well what have you compared it to, I compared it to a more accurate (though apparently illegal) translation that I found much more charming and funny when they have the occasional language and just less toned down jokes. Sometimes the Viz translations just seem like its embarrassed about the joke and that comes through in the characters, its just awkward. I got the feeling ever since Goku said yo wuzzup bros to the monkeys and the whole scene just didn't come across as cute or funny as it did when I read the more accurate one. Does it get better like halfway through the manga or does it feel the same consistently throughout? Just wondering since I do want to read them in physical form not illegally.AgitoZ wrote:First of all I mentioned that Viz changes the occasional line and even then it isn't filled with them. And stop with the "clearly they make it more kiddy than the original version, its for kids", If they are going to keep it uncensored then why not keep the text true as well. On the back of the book its rated teen, ok teens are kids but they don't say phooey instead of damn, I'm not reading blues clues.
