How strong is Satan?

Post by Cootie » Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:48 pm

In real world Earth terms how powerful would you say he is?

Most people regard him as a weak fighter, which he is in comparison to the main cast. But he did win the Martial Arts Tournament and has been shown to show skills that require great strength. Goku himself admitted that Satan at the very least knew "the basics" (which coming from Goku could mean that Mr.Satan is beyond skilled by most mindsets). Lastly, we saw him beat that gunman's, who was quite stout mind you, ass up and down the mountain before knocking him out in a flawless victory.

So, within the context of the show which character would be his nearest equal? Secondly is there a fighter in our world who could take him?

Toriyama's said that Mr. Satan is weaker then Bob Sapp. He's stronger than the general population of Earth, but weaker than basically everyone that's been shown as a fighter before his appearance. He has no superhuman feats, such as jumping higher than skyscrapers like some characters in the 21st Budokai display, though he may be able to defeat some of the preliminary contestants or finalists like Ran Fan. Also, some of the more normal RR Army members, like Silver, Violet, Yellow, etc. may be weaker than him as well.

Personally, I think the man just lacks ki control. Even if he didn't do any real extra training, if he could just control his ki, he may be able to surpass some of the other Budokai contestants, like Namu. Even if the previous Budokai participants don't really know about, or how to control their ki, I think they are at least using it a bit, even if subconsciously. But as things stand, Mark is ignorant of the concept and relies completely on pure physical power, thus not living up to any of his real potential. (He's kind of the Rock Lee of Dragon Ball, only physical strength literally means nothing once ki is introduced.)

Even Goku on chapter 1 is many times stronger than Mr. Satan, since he can survive gun shots, break stones with one finger, jump miles away, etc.

I won't disagree with you, but Goku is a Saiyan, and received a little ki training from his grandfather if I remember correctly, so...

Initial Chibi Goku one-shotted the Bear Bandit, who is far stronger than Mr. Satan.

Toriyama himself said that Bob Sapp > Mr. Satan and as strong as Bob Sapp is he's not some comically overpowered freak of nature like the Bear Bandit and Goku.

Initial Chibi Goku > Bear Bandit > Bob Sapp > Videl > Mr. Satan

I have him at about 10 billion, but his bewilderment at all of the trickery and light shows severely reduced his power level to around 8 or so.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

He's obviously an expert martial artist, and he's strong enough to break stacks of tiles and punch holes through buses, which is nothing to sneeze at.

But he's several tiers below any of the more spiritually inclined contestants even in the series' early Tenkaichi Budokais (Namu, King Chappa). He could probably beat Panpoot and any Red Ribbon officer not named Blue though (Metallic, Murasaki and Buyon not withstanding).

He's the Dragon Ball version of Chuck Norris, very good martial artist but overrated by the mass populace.

Lets not forget that Kuririn is a human as well. Although he may have received a lot more training than Mr. Satan, he is much stronger, by far. On that note, I believe Master Roshi could take Mr. Satan.

That is pretty obvious.

Mr. Satan was stated by the author to be below a real life human. Meanwhile Muten Roshi is a superhuman who can bust mountains.

Any of the noteable human fighters introduced throughout the story would blow Mr. Satan up with a look, literally.

Panpoot would wreck him. He casually broke a concrete wall with one mere elbow strike.

Of course he can take on Satan. He took on Goku, Tien, Piccolo, and more! Hell I bet he could have helped fight against the saiyans if he really wanted to.

I would think with how much Videl kicked Spopovich around that she'd be stronger than Bob Sapp.

That's pretty much on par with any of Mr. Satan's feats of strength. Panpoot is by far the weakest Tenkaichi Budokai finalist in the first three tournaments, except for Lanfan and Man-wolf. (The point being they're all expert but still "normal" martial artists. The 24th Tenkaichi Budokai that Satan wins is presumably filled with this tier of fighter.)

Panpoot casually breaks a concrete wall with one elbow strike without breaking a sweet or showing any signs of pain.

Mr. Satan fails to completely break a pile of 15 tiles and he actually shows signs of pain from his hand.

Conclusion: they are pretty much on par...?

I don't believe so... If Panpoot can casually break a concrete wall like that, he probably could even break the punching machine from the Budokai with a full force punch or at least score a pretty high score.

He is one of the weakest characters in the series, Goku at the first chapters where much stronger then him. Mr. Satan feats such as able to take hits from Cell and Buu are just joke feats, I don't think they should be taken seriously.
