Is this really Spike's last DBZ game?
I saw some people saying that it was, but I don't know how reliable that info was. I 'm really hoping that it is their last game and a good developer like Cyberconnect2 will take over.

The MIGHT be Spike's last game. Namco Bandai has a 3-years contract with Spike, with UT as the last game. But if DBZ UT/UB is succesful, Namco Bandai can make a contract with Spike again for DBZ UT2/UB2.mystic trunks wrote:I saw some people saying that it was, but I don't know how reliable that info was. Ergo, I'm hoping, that the game will flop, but CaC can be a selling point for some fans.

Typically only if that selling point was good. But this isn't looking like anything special. If it were a Star Wars game, then the limitations of the CaC would be like only letting people create Stormtroopers, with no actual customization other than different colored armor and some stickers on the helmets.Super Saiyajin Luffy wrote:Ergo, I'm hoping, that the game will flop, but CaC can be a selling point for some fans.

You wish this game allowed for stickers..., I wouldn't be complaining if it did. =PKaboom wrote:...the limitations of the CaC would be like only letting people create Stormtroopers, with no actual customization other than different colored armor and some stickers on the helmets.

Being able to make my character look like he escaped from a Blingee gif is the only thing that can redeem only being able to make male saiyans.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:You wish this game allowed for stickers..., I wouldn't be complaining if it did. =P
Hey, I entirely forgot I had an account here. AGAIN.

Meh.
I'm torn. With the potential for some kind of Sparking! sequel out there (probably unrealistic, but a boy can dream), I'm kind of hoping Spike sticks around... but I'd rather they not keep churning out shitty game after shitty game. Raging Blast 2 had some merit, but the first RB was kind of awful and pointless, and Ultimate Blast is shaping up to be a head scratcher, much in the same vein as Infinite World.
But on the other hand, it's definitely time the series moves on in video games... a new developer would definitely be welcomed. Especially if it were an RPG or something of that nature. Or a fighting game with honest-to-goodness depth and innovation.
Hell, I wouldn't at all be opposed to a Dragon Ball Heroes HD fighting game by Dimps.

Last game until the next one.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
Re: Is this really Spike's last DBZ game?
I wish we could get a different dev to do a major Dragon Ball game. Some entirely new gameplay would be refreshing.
I kinda doubt it'll happen though. If Spikes games don't do well enough to contract em for more Dragon Ball then odds are Namco Bandai will probably think Dragon Ball games aren't worth the investment any more. Or least not console Dragon Ball games.

If UT/UB sells well then it's likely that they said that they would do another game. I know that they are most likely do another game since when someone said it's the last then they always end up making another one

Their contract is up so it is their last contractually. Whether or not they make more I guess depends on the success of this game.Hellspawn28 wrote:If UT/UB sells well then it's likely that they said that they would do another game. Pbbt. Infinite World was better than Budokai 3 is basically every way, despite its being rushed and halfway stuck together.Thanos wrote:Ultimate Blast is shaping up to be a head scratcher, much in the same vein as Infinite World.

All I'm saying is, its very existence was a bit of an oddity. Here we had three Budokai games, then three Sparking! games, and then... Infinite World pops up out of nowhere basically being Budokai 3.5, even after the release of Burst Limit.

If CyberConnect2 does do a DBZ game, all hype for it will be shot to Hell once CC2 reveals that it'll have the same story.
Same story = no buy for most DB video game fans.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I personally have nothing wrong with the same story. It's not like I'm annoyed by it, Ragging Blast 2 not having a story mode was the main reason why the game got a lot of hate from critics and fans. I would like to see them just do one big What If story mode for each character like the Supersonic Warriors games did. I think it will be possible to do a story mode for each character since Budokai 3 was going to have a dragon world for every character in the game which never happen due to the lack of the time that the game had.

Re: Is this really Spike's last DBZ game?
Because their story modes follow the story from the manga. You have to realize when it comes to the story DBZ and Naruto fans are different, a large contingent of DBz are tired of playing the story in video games, many Naruto are the opposite in large to do with the fact that the story isn't done manga wise and many want a crack at the characters that are expanded on or introduced. I know I sure want a crack at Godaime Mizukage. But that maybe due to the fact that the main console games since storm have followed the story while the smaller ones do their own storyline, so there is a abundance of each for different Naruto fans, combine that with the fact that fans aren't stuck to one engine.Saiga wrote:Why is that?mysticboy wrote:If CyberConnect2 does do a DBZ game, all hype for it will be shot to Hell once CC2 reveals that it'll have the same story.

I personally don't play anime games for story, especially if know the story of the anime start to finish before playing the game.
Re: Is this really Spike's last DBZ game?
I'm really hoping Dimps makes a come back. Aside from Supersonic Warriors, I don't think I've enjoyed any other franchise of DBZ games as much as I have the Budokai games. That, and Burst Limit still looks (and plays, obviously) a lot better than the recent Spike games, despite it being released much earlier.

Re: Is this really Spike's last DBZ game?
I think Dimps are busy with other games which is why we never saw a Burst Limit 2. I do hope they come back for another game next year.
- X-Men 3 was state to be the last film but they end up doing two more a few years later
- Final Destination 4 was stated to be the last one but they did a 5th film two years later
- Halo 3 was stated to be the last and they end up doing Halo 4 like five years later (Three years if you want to count Halo: Reach)
- Friday the 13th Part 4 was said to be the final installment but they end up doing one like a year or two later
- Transformers 3 was said to be the last installment and now there have been talks of a 4th film
The list keeps going on and on. Not be surprise when Ultimate Blast/Ultimate Tenkachi 2 will be release next year.
I think it's likely that they will do another game next year since I think the game will likely sell well in Japan. Saying it's the last is a gimmick to have more people buy it since it's the last. It happens all of the time when they said that it will be the last of something but then do another one. For example:Saimaroimaru wrote: Their contract is up so it is their last contractually.
