Anime: 28th budoukai

Post by Dayspring » Sun Feb 15, 2004 2:11 am

Hey guys. What happens in the anime for the 28th budoukai? Is it as good/better than the manga? How many dvds is it on? The last one or two?

Last DVD questions: Is it true there won't be DBGT dvd box sets except for the Bebi saga or just true they just all won't appear until 2005? Any news about GT special on DVD?

Well, I don't know what exactly happens in the manga. But in the anime, Ubuu is introduced, as well as Pan.

Satan wins it (though I don't remember if they really show it), and Buu gets runner up.

I think this is all right. It's very chessy at some parts in that it seems obvious that Toei was bracing themselves for GT rather than ending Z in the proper manner.

No, no I kinda liked it. There are a lot of really funny scenes, especially Trunks' opponent that Village People biker who keeps making passes at him! Plus the DVD is worth it, just to see that Vegita and Nok scene, one of the funniest ones in the whole series in my opinion! And the Budokai episodes are only on the final disc, entitled "A New Beginning". There are 4 episodes on it, the first is a sweet filler about everyone having a get-together party at Capsule Corp., and the last three jump to 10 years later and introduce Pan and feature the tournament where Uub is introduced.

That guy's name was Otoko Suki. I've heard that means "I Like Men" in about a billion places. I've picked up Suki from anime, so I don't doubt it.

Oh no I know his name, but I like calling him "Village People biker" because well, that's what he's a spoof on! :D Thanks for giving the name anyway though in case others didn't know.

Couldn't they have made some montage type of fight with Trunks beating the shit out of Otoko Suki while the ending music played? It's all I could ask for...

Ya actually I would have really liked to have seen their fight, instead of just that one shot of the two of them in the ring with Trunks looking uncomfortable. That would have been a great scene! :D

Boo loses to Satan? Wouldn't Vegeta have "lost" to Satan? Bah! Did they not look at the tournament table? Vegeta would end up fighting Boo, and there's no bloody way Boo could win at this stage! He's MUCH weaker than the fat Boo we met in the Boo saga, and Vegeta is much stronger!

No the reason Satan beats Buu is because Satan asks him to pretend to lose. And Goku had already informed Satan that all of his group would pretend to lose too. They're just there to have fun, except for Goku who wants to check out Uub. Concerning Satan still winning, it is revealed that since Buu has been living with Satan that they've done this every year. Buu takes out all the opponents for Satan and then when it's time to face him, he pretends to lose, so Satan appears to remain the strongest in the world. Actually, by the 28th Budokai, Buu has quite a fan following himself since he's gotten runner-up so any times at that point. There are actually girls in the audience screaming his name! :P

Oh so we just assume he won (up until he takes a dive against Satan)? Because he wouldn't. Vegeta would most likely win up to Satan since he also agreed to take a dive.

I thought Buu screwed up with the matchups as well. Did Buu go up against Vegeta? Well, either way. As long as Satan wins.

Vegeta from any other time period wouldn't pretend to lose... it's a prime example of how Vegeta has changed.

No, no after Goku fights Uub, the ring gets completely ruined, Goku leaves with Uub, the match is canceled, and Vegita doesn't want to fight anyway since Goku leaves because there's no challenge for him. So for the 28th Budokai Satan won by default. Man that guy's lucky!

In the manga Goku tells Satan that he, Trunks, Goten and Vegeta passed the preliminaries as well as Pan. Right when he freaks, Goku tells him not to worry since they all promise to lose to Satan if they meet up in the finals (although I don't know if the same applies to Pan, there's no way she'd make it that far). It's not too hard to picture Vegeta losing to him: Vegeta knocks him in into the corner of the ring in one blow, then pummels him for half an hour and "stumbles" out of the ring leaving a battered Satan the winner.

Yeah it's just the anime version, so it doesn't mean we can't speculate that Toriyama might have done it the way you've proposed it in the manga. I personally don't think Vegita would bother to stick around and fight though with Goku gone. There's just no challenge or fun to it anymore.

Yeah... Vegeta probably would beat him up for a bit to make up for having to fix the match. I'd rather I just got beaten by Vegeta than have to win against him...

Heh. I could just see Vegita toying with Satan a bit and Satan whispering to him in between his groans of pain that he was still hitting him too hard!

I've always been slightly confused by the ending of Z. Was Toriyama going for an "epilogue" feel with the final tornament? It always seemed a bit...aprupt, to me.

I didn't even realize it was over as I read the last page. Thought I had another chapter left... It was a strange way to end it, but I'm okay with it now.

Toriyama ended the series abruptly because he pretty much quit on it. He no longer wanted to work at it, so he didn't ease it to a stop, he simply made one final chapter and put the pen and brush away.

I don't think Vegeta would have hurt Mr. Satan, since he no longer had any animosity towards him or anyone else. At the end of the series, especially the anime, Vegeta had become a softy. Besides, it was Mr. Satan that saved his life from Kid Buu, as well as the rest of the world shortly before. Vegeta owed him a little bit of respect.

If I remember correctly, after Uub and Goku leave in the middle of their match, the tournament is canceled (It appears on a large banner). However, right after they show a few still shots of Pan whooping Gotens ass.
