Differences between DVD and Blu-Ray releases?

Post by MoltenMan » Wed Oct 19, 2011 5:40 pm

Hey guys.

I've been in the slow process of trying to get my DBZ collection current with the more recent releases and was wondering if the video quality between the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of Kai vary greatly or not.

I don't own a Blu-Ray player but am thinking about putting one on lay-away at Wal-Mart for the upcoming Blu-Ray DBZ releases. I kind of still like to get stuff on DVD because I can take them to work and watch on the computer. Now, I used to own the first two sets of Kai that came out, and I did notice that it looked slightly blurry (this would be on my home DVD players, not the computer). Is it like that on Blu-Ray?

It's not too much of a big deal, but I try to save money when I can, and just not sure if I just want to get the DVD sets over the BR. Bring on those comments and suggestions.

The biggest difference is the video encoding. DVDs can only hold up to 480p in resolution whereas Blu-rays can hold up to 1080p resolution. To me, the Blu-ray sets looks extremely sharp and better than the Dragon Boxes. Also, in terms of packaging, the DVD set are far superior, in my opinion, than the Blu-ray sets.

I haven't got the Blu-Ray sets but from screenshots I've seen, it is blurry like the DVD release, though I think the only bits that benefit on the Blu-Ray release is the footage seen from episodes 73-80 (only episodes done on 35mm film instead of the usual 16mm) of Z and the opening/eyecatchs/ending.
