Ultimate Blast/Tenkaichi Game Play (Post-Release Discussion)

Post by TripleRach » Tue Oct 25, 2011 1:21 am

The game is now out in the US as of today, and will be out in Europe in a few days. This thread is for discussing the game after you've played it yourself. News and speculation type stuff should stay in the other thread for now.

Why not make the other thread an on going discussion thread like how the RB1 and 2 threads are?

I just made the thread on behalf of the other mods, since they were busy. But I guess maybe we're trying something different this time?

Does anyone know if the PS3 version has the option for custom music?

Yes it does. Curiously the manual also mentions setting bgm to certain events in battle. Doubt we can use custom songs for that, though.

I don't have nor have I ever played the game, though I did watch a 45 min. walk through, and... ugh. I know what to expect from getting this game--repetitive quick-time events, identical characters, a smaller roster, thin game play mechanics... I wouldn't spend $20 on this, to be perfectly honest. The QTE saturation is solely what caused me to get rid of Budokai 3. At least in this case, players have the option to go to the home menu instantly after they've sighed and gotten bored of watching an "interactive" fight.

I'm absolutely certain that I'd get the same sinking feeling I got when I bought Infinite World for $40 and Burst Limit for $60... I just spent this hard-earned cash for a game that's not nearly as good and seems watered down from previous games that cost a fraction of the price.

I don't care about character creation... it's way too limited for me to care. The graphics? Some of the characters look better (Vegeta, no question), but it's like the developers didn't know whether they were trying to mimic the anime or manga. So, to me, the game looks kind of ugly.

It sucks that such a great intro was wasted on this... although, the same could be said for Ultimate Battle 22 or Final Bout I guess. :P

It's terrible. I wasted $60 + tax on it, thinking it would be like Raging Blast 2, which I loved. While the cutscenes are pretty fantastic, everything else is garbage. It's a game of rock/paper/scissors with DBZ characters.

The YouTube videos I saw showed green-haired super saiyans, and I thought this was a camera issue, but it's not. Not sure why they went that route. It's cool on the hero mode, but for the actual characters, I don't want green-haired super saiyans.

Playing it right now, it's pretty good. Takes some time to get used too since the combat is so different that we where used too and I had to play through the tutorial mode twice since I got my ass kick by Radditz twice  . Reminds me when I first played the first Sparking game back in 2005 when I first got it that I had to play through the tutorial mode more the once to get used to it. I noticed that the camera is still awful as always.

I hate that is it's so confusing to pull off a normal attack like a Kamehameha wave. I like it when you can press square or X <--- to pull off a normal attack. It's better then the last RB games so far but I still give it bit more time to give out a full rating. I will give it a low 8/10 so far.

How is it confusing? You flick a control stick in a direction...that is like the least amount of effort possible, except maybe telepathically willing the game to just fire it.

It feel confusing at first since I had no idea on what to do. It seems like the character creation mode seems bit of a let down. It seems like that you are only able to pick two outfits for the characters and you can't change the characters eyes. Maybe once I beat the story mode then it will give me more things to unlock for the character. In the Soul series and Mortal Kombat Armageddon allow you buy and unlock things for the custom characters.

Nope. But I have to say, the score in this game is really great. I really the music in the cutscenes.
