1. Why is Son Goku always mostly referred as "Goku" only?

1. If a custom Majin Boo Kai saga version were to be made, how many episodes would it have in total?

Dragon Ball Kai: Episode 97 - Question

1. If Nagasaki was the one doing the music placement how could he have used Dragon Soul on such a crucial moment when Chi-Chi was crying (with Son Gohan and Gyumao by her side trying to cheer her up)?!

2. Couldn't they have used "Over the Star" (Track 6 - DBK Song Collection) or "Cure" (Track 7 - DBK Song Collection) than Dragon Soul for Episode 97's ending?

These are probably questions better addressed to the funimation forum... but I can try and answer some of 'em.
1) consistency I guess. I think it beats Sangoku in the French dub.
2) partly consistency, partly censorship I suppose.
3) again, consistency. I'm not happy about it either, I would have settled for "King Kaio" myself.
4) I do not believe so on account of consistency... hey, noticing a pattern?

For the Majin Buu saga thing.

Have a look at each individual saga and compare the original episode count to Kai.

I can only make a rough guess at possibly no more than 30 or so episodes, maybe a bit higher out of the total of 96 available episodes. (Including Other World Tournament)

The "Son" surname has almost always been dropped in the English anime adaptations here in North America. Viz has used it in their English translation of the manga, and it's popped up once in a video game and once in the dub of Kai, but that's about it. Can't really give a real explanation for it, and doubt that anyone could. That's just how they did it.

The "God" non-translation in the English dub is almost certainly the fear of religious zealots and hurt feelings. That's how American society rolls. Show all the violence you want, but don't show the boobies or mention them other gods that lo-and-behold people might actually know about or, even worse, believe in.

"Master Kaio" isn't much better than "King Kai", really. "Kaio" isn't actually a name -- it's a title. He's the "Lord of the Worlds" ("kai" = world, "o" = king/lord) with a "-sama" (lord/master/whatever) honorific tacked on the end, which kinda gets redundant in English if you're already calling him a "Lord". Any of these half-translations are akin to calling him "Lord Master" or something. Herms likes this topic a lot, so I can leave it to him .

Nothing wrong with "Ox King" for "Gyumao", since again, it's not a name so much as it's a title. Furthermore, it's just another title from Journey to the West, where the character is loosely ripped from. He's the "Ox Demon King", so they're just dropping the "demon" part ("gyu" = ox, "ma" = demon, "o" = king), probably partly each for simplicity and toning down the religious implications.

There have been lots of speculation threads about the Buu arc and how it could be cut down. I haven't done the comparisons and math myself, but if anyone else wants to dig up the appropriate threads to link, there's some good reading to keep you busy for a while.

I wrote about the "Dragon Soul" placement in episode 97 in my review of the final DVD. You have your thoughts on it, and I have mine. We differ in that I understand that's the mood they were shooting for and still think it worked. You don't. That's cool.

Could they have used a different insert song? Probably. I don't have the credits for "Cure" in front of me, but it looks like Yamamoto himself didn't compose "Over the Star" (his daughter, "cAnON.", did).
