Confusion on Dead Zone rerelease
Confusion on Dead Zone rerelease
So, has anyone else found the redub/rerelease of Dead Zone yet?
I've noticed some conflicting information over who did the translation for this film. The credits that plays after the movie says Clyde Mandelin did the translation, but the english credits running through the ending scene says Steve Simmons did this. Could Daimao or someone else clear this up?

If you're asking if it's still there, according to lost, no. The scene itself is intact, but, the music is not. According to lost it's just the same generic music as usual. :/
The log of that convo:
[21:53] <SaiyaJedi> How'd they handle "Tenka-ichi Gohan"?
[21:54] <lost_in_thought> Lets see.
[21:55] * lost_in_thought backs up some.
[21:55] <SaiyaJedi> Around 10 and half minutes in.
[21:55] <SaiyaJedi> With the song starting around the 11:00 mark or so
[21:56] <lost_in_thought> Wow...
[21:56] <SaiyaJedi> ?
[21:56] <lost_in_thought> Generic circus like BGMs, of symbols and a flute going in the background
[21:56] <lost_in_thought> and some tumble music.

Good thing you log conversations, since I have no intention of watching the dub a second time, just to see how Tenka-ichi Gohan played out, to describe it yet again. [Yes, I had forgotten how I described it.]Xyex wrote:If you're asking if it's still there, according to lost, no. The scene itself is intact, but, the music is not. Nope, no singing, much awkward, much confusion. I can imagine Piccolo Daisuki will have various techno/rock ballads, probably a few cymbal clatters, and a whole lot of bullshit.DBW wrote:So there isn't even any singing in the dub? That must make the scene pretty awkward. I wonder what they're gonna do with that "Piccolo Daisuki" song in the next movie...
No, they remember all right, but they're just looking to sell units. But even at a reduced price-tag of $14.00 [is only worth between $7.00, to $10.00] it's far from cheap enough to warrant purchase, unless you A.) like the dub, more than the original, B.) Are a fucking moron, C.) You're a fan of this movie.Conan the SSJ wrote:Why in the hell is this release being considered Ultimate Uncut and deemed to contain never-before seen footage? Do FUNi have real short memories of the Pioneer releases, or is there really something new?
If none of the above applies to you, then you should keep away from this one at all costs, and instead cling to your Pioneer release like it's the holy fucking grail.
I agree, completely.Sun_Wukong wrote:I honestly didnt notice anything new. I still think Pioneer's dub is far superior.
Yes, it does. I am far too dissapointed with the dub to go back and watch it though... maybe one of these days I'll be able to set aside my disgust and see what sort of tripe has been recorded for we, the 'fans.'Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Also, I heard it has some kind of directors commentary...
If the commentary that was put online, for the Ultimate Uncut release on DragonBallZ.com is any indication of the quality that FUNimation is capable of, I'd probably advise against watching it, for your own well being.
I know... and I am so sorry for trashing it, but I am so dissapointed with FUNimation right now it isn't even funny.Daimao wrote:"Dead Zone" is mine.
The Dead Zone is a good movie, and from what I've read during my initial viewing of the dvd, your subtitle work was as good as ever... but the dub is just god awful.
The only advantage I can see this having over the Pioneer release is that there were no additional sound effects thrown in for no reason, like in the original dub. (At least, there aren't now as far as I'm aware). But, the fact that the Pioneer release uses the original BGM, including the insert song, makes their release far superior regardless.

The bottom-line: There is no reason what-so-ever to own this, if you've got the Pioneer dvd/vhs; it's just not worth the pain.tarsonis wrote:The only advantage I can see this having over the Pioneer release is that there were no additional sound effects thrown in for no reason, like in the original dub. I said it once, and I will say it again: if you own the original Pioneer release in any format, cling to it like it's the Holy fucking Grail... because... it is!

To be honest, the only reason I plan on buying it is for the credits. Pioneer translated them (some names incorrectly), and I'd prefer to have them raw, like all of the others movies FUNi's released themselves.
That, and I'm sure Steve's subtitles are much better than Pioneer's. ...Actually, wasn't there a bit of dubtitling in their subs? At least name-wise, anyway.
Those two things are enough to warrant a purchase from me, at least. I could care less about the dub. But I realize that's not everyone, so.

And, as mentioned, the only "new" footage (if you want to call it that) is the full-frame Japanese closing credits (which are un-translated, just like the opening), where-as Pioneer's was scrolled up to the corner while translated credits played on the right (a-la other DBZ movie closing credits, but still...).

The so-called "waves and rocks" ? Yes. And there's no need to capitalize Toei; it's not an acronym.kenisu3000 wrote:All of you may roll your your eyes at what may seem to be a trivial question, but is the TOEI mark at the beginning of the movie kept?

Quick question on Dead Zone, since I haven't seen it in many moons...
Who all fights against Garlic Jr. and his crew? I know for sure Son Gokuu and Piccolo do, as does Kami-sama and Son Gohan... but I'm having trouble recalling if Klilyn or anyone else takes them on in the movie.

Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

... "Klilyn"?
Well, Chi-chi does try at the beginning of the movie, and Kuririn deflects a couple of attacks, but that's about it.

Now I know of this I can't wait to see the old movies.
The only DBZ movies I've seen are the two Brolly ones, the Trunks/Bardock specials and Bojack. I want to see these old movies now because of the BGM which is kept in, anyway, lucky they are all being shown on Toonami in the UK tommorow and so on.
So, Pioneer did know what they were doing!
And we might as well call him Krillin, or Kuririn, all those other types of romanized names look too akward. Even if it says that in UB22.
