Yellow Kamehamehas

Post by Leotaku » Sun May 22, 2005 10:41 am

This was something that has always bothered me about some of the old Japanese DragonBall Z games.
Why the hell do they make the Kamehameha yellow?? Hasn't it traditionally been blue in the anime? A simple thing like colour, how can you possibly get that wrong? :?
Or am I missing something here? Anyone care to offer ideas or reasoning on why they almost always coloured the Kamehameha yellow in the old games?

Always noticed the same thing, myself. It's very minor, but it bothers me :).

I recall Super Butoden 3 getting it right... but I'm not 100% sure...

They were yellow again in Budokai 1. At least they fixed it with Budokai 2 & 3.

Here are a couple of screenshots I took for my review of L'Ultime Menace (the French title of Super Butoden 3). The review isn't online yet but it doesn't really matter.

Both Goku and Goten's Kamehamehas are yellow in that game. Goku's "Megahameha" is also yellow. Vegeta's attacks are blue though.

The way I see it, is that it's ki. Ki isn't really supposed to be an actual material thing. The blast is just to artistically represent it. Blue makes it seem like energy, yellow makes it seem like power. I don't know...

What's odd is that Super Butoden 2 got Cell's Kamehameha's right (blue) and so did Budokai 1. I think maybe Atari just copied the color schemes from the old games... but that still doesn't explain why they were wrong in the old games....

I always thought that Kamehameha was blue, unless they go Super Saiyan, then it's yellow, or in Goku's case, use Kaioken and it's red. Goku's Kaioken x3/x4 Kamehameha was blue though versing Vegeta the first time, so I guess there aren't any real rules to what color the Kamehameha is.

Actually, I don't remember too well. Was Goku's Kamehameha ever red in the anime, like when he was fighting Ginyu, Pikkon or someone?

The only golden Kamehameha I remember seeing is Gohan's when he's blasting Buu's egg/shell/ball thingy. Other than that one instance it's always blue.

Unless you count the Juubai Kamehameha.
Which would change randomly from episode to episode anyway...

Well I was thinking about it.

Once SSJ levels were being reached in the anime, they seemed to start colouring a lot of their attacks yellow. There would be various colours before (for ki attacks, not just the Kamehameha), like blue, purple, white, and others. Then they change it all to yellow to match the aura.

But the Kamehameha I think was always blue in the anime, regardless. Although they did have a few yellow ones, I think it was maybe a mistake, or not officially a Kamehameha (just a similar movement to perform a blast).

If you count GT, (although it's relevance isn't really important, since those old games came before GT anyway, and also, we all know there's a lot of holes in that series) there was that red 10x Kamehameha, and even more yellow ones.

I guess the people working on the games were just going by all the other SSJ ki attacks, which were pretty much ALL yellow?

Anyone know if any games with the Kamehameha came out before SSJ was introduced, and what colour they used?

Supersonic Warriors/Buku Tougeki has yellow Kamehameha as well... even basic Son Gokuu does...
