Is there anyone...
Is there anyone that isn't satisfied with DBZ games at the moment, and havent been for awhile? Is there anyone here thats favourite game isn't BT3, and is still waiting for a 3D DBZ game which grants competitive gameplay, as much as the 2D games did? Is there anyone who wishes a day when DBZ games could be entered into tournaments, and would be at a level that they could compete with the likes of Tekken, Street Fighter and all the other renowned fighter's of this generation? Whether in 2D or in 3D? And is there anyone that wishes for the day when they can mention the next DBZ installment around a group of friends who aren't particularly interested in DBZ, and not be laughed at?
Is there anyone who doesn't care about the number of character's, or if there's a particularly long story mode, if one at all? Is there anyone who refuses to pay for mediocre titles every year, just because it has a DBZ label on it?

Well, regarding the ''true fighting'' game, that is definitely Super DBZ, then I like Budokai 3.
My most favorite game from DB is BT3. I found it an awesome DB series simulator, but not a fighting game.

None have really interested me since BT3, but then I don't have a PS3 or XB360.
I am really craving a new Legacy of Goku game. I still play that trilogy a lot because it offers more than just fighting and fighting and fighting.

I'm personally waiting for a commercial console RPG, there's the indie scene for 2D games but none of them go anywhere as no one can sprite or code
While DBZ Sagas was bad, it was something different and would love if a new Action-RPG was released on the ps3.

I don't necessarily want a game like SF even though I want a fighter; personally I'd rather they finally made a 3D game which can be classed as a good fighter. I wouldn't mind a 2D type, but I think that'd be too easy (not really but yeah..). I mean, it'd be much more revolutionary for DBZ games if they made it a badass fighter in 3D; and it is ofcourse (or seems so) much more difficult with the models and whatever. Still, I know if Dimps gave 3D a go damn would we have had decent/great games. They actually have some idea of how a DBZ fight works.
@dbboxkaifan, I think calling Burst Limit (and even moreso RB) "great" is a bit too nice. Define what you mean by "great", because I don't think calling BL great and Batman Arkham City (for example) great means the same thing. Anyway, BL had it's flaws even though it was a good attempt; it was a very unfinished game, it was obvious. I'd love to have seen a sequel though, it's series would definitely have been better than Budokai. The attacks and visuals actually look the best from any DBZ game, and I think the replacement of P and K with Light and Heavy attacks was a good move. What spoiled the game in the gameplay department though was the ki system, there should have been some limitations.
I don't think I'd call Raging Blast Very good or Great, it was more Satisfactory; I was simply satisfied with buying and playing it. RB2 however...
Whilst I too would like an RPG, I think it highly unlikely we get one on the consoles any time soon. And unless they only do a single saga from the story, I'm afraid they will go and mess up the vision of a DBZ RPG we have, whilst trying to fit as much content; and I know there's many who would disagree and moan but it's true. In a single year, the only way I think they could make a good RPG is if they only go up to either the Frieza saga or the Cell saga (at max.). Think of it as the exact same thing when making the fighting games, the larger the roster the harder it is to make the gameplay great and the roster balanced. It's also harder to be creative as they are trying to play it safe. We then have a generic, repetitive game.

Well, Street Fighter IV is work of Dimps and look at it. Marvelous.... What I heard Burst Limit wasn't that bad game, at least visually. So I don't see any perspectivity of Spike producing shit after shit each year and wanna see something from Dimps.....

Lol, I wish. They lost the rights unforunately because of Atari I heard. Yeah, BL wasn't bad, it was good. It was just unfinished. I mean there are a lack of modes outside story, and the online is really laggy and annoying. The gameplay was quite good, though it was apparent that it could and would (if given the chance) get much better. The difference with BL and RB2, is I can't see RB2 getting better, not at all. Though I'd be egging at BL given another chance.
For Spike to do well making a fighting game next year, they have to include as little as 30 character's. It's a fact.

That's not accurate. It's not like Atari was ever involved with anything in Japan, and Dimps was still developing the games for Namco-Bandai from 2001 with the first DragonBall Z (Budokai) up through Infinite World, which was right after Burst Limit (and... maybe Evolution on PSP...? It just used the Shin Budokai engine, but I'm not actually sure if someone else worked on it, instead).
Atari was nothing more than the North American (and semi-international) distributor for those particular games, and really had no pull on who got to make them, since they were still originally Japanese productions that Namco-Bandai was in charge of.
There's a larger discussion to be had about any possible push they made for the development of Infinite World in the first place (since it was clear by that point that they wouldn't have that license forever and might have wanted to make an extra buck or two off it), but I think Namco-Bandai would have pushed that out the door, anyway.
To be honest, for Dimps it just seemed to be a case of moving on to bigger and better things. Yearly DBZ game or Street Fighter IV...? Easy choice for me if I were in their shoes...!
And is there anyone who's fed up with yearly horse shit for games? Umm... yeah. Lots of us

Excellent graphics, gameplay, cutscenes, though story mode could've lasted a bit more and go all the way to Boo's arc, but I don't mind, from a perspective it's "Dragon Ball Kai's Official Game".

I consider Infinite World as Budokai 4 and Burst Limit as Budokai 1 Remake. But yeah, Burst Limit was a great game, I enjoyed a lot, the only negative is that it doesn't have Boo arc. I haven't really been interested in the games since 2009. Granted, I don't have a PS3 or 360 to get them anyway, but even so, I don't really feel like I need to buy them. I don't really care about the number of characters, but I must say that it was cool to have a massive roster of characters in BT3. I think that is the main reason I like to go back and play BT3 nowadays. As for story mode, I will admit that I'm kind of sick of the Saiyan arc to Buu arc story mode we get on almost every single Dragon Ball Z fighting game. I wouldn't mind getting a unique story mode with a unique, brand new villain in the game.
Something different. You can only go so far with the same formula year in and year out for so long before the formula starts to go bad. I don't mind the fighting games coming out for the franchise, but I think that the Sparking/Ultimate Blast/Raging Blast/Tenkaichi formula has basically gone bad. As I've already said, I really don't care for the current games coming out right now. This especially rings true for the Spike games.Tell me what you want instead...

I don't think BL was a Kai game. If I remember correctly all the voices were of the original cast, so yeah. I did miss the Buu saga in that game.
@Shiyonasan, I don't necessarily mean that there would be major tournaments for the games, I mean the games could be at a level where one could compare them to a tournament game, and as good competitively as them. Simply having the status as being capable of it would be good. Neither do I bother for such things.
There was a time when I wouldn't even think of a DBZ game without the story mode, but since RB2 I got thinking, there really doesn't need to be one 'ey, does there. I don't think having the same old story being re-told each year is healthy for the franchise. It's getting saturated, and bringing the quality of how we remember the original down. It isn't doing the original story any good, just straining it. I mean, I'd be happy with a mode similar to B2, it's creative. Don't get me wrong though, withdrawing story from RB2 was handled poorly, very poorly indeed.
An alternative? It's simple, a mode where you enter into the Tenkaichi Budokai/World Tournament, and compete with others from the DBZ universe. Call it the Intergalactic Tournament, and it can be set in other world at that tournament stage, basically everyone's dead and fighting for eternity
I think that (if the fighting genre continues) this sorta mode is the future of a DBZ fighting game. It is. And if fans want a good story mode after awhile, then after a few games the devs could have secretly been developing a story for the years they've been leaving it out, and then we'd finally get a story not of the quality of a one-year developed game! This is all a win-win scenario yo. ... *The lack of story saves space and time and money to focus on important things like gameplay and combat. So I wouldn't want that tourney mode taking too much time and such.
I don't wana trail on to long, so I'll answer you're last point shortly. I agree, I've been saying the same thing. The formula's getting old, ain't it. What is the formula? Smash attack 1 to 6 universal for every character. Robotic jumping and movement. When BT3 was over and the devs moved on to next-gen, they really should have gone and done something completely different, not aim to get as many character's in a single game as possible. For the next game/series we need a completely different formula, two attack buttons, much much much better and versatile dodging and vanishing, like how the Budokai's are, but in 3D. That's one thing they fail to do every year.

Lol, I'm not sure what to make of that xD I'm not that new anymore, this is the section of the forum I go on most, if not only. Just wanted to see who feels similarly to me. So what do you think, what DBZ game do you favour?
@EX, Oh, what I thought has become a small rumour amongst some people. I'm glad though that Dimps went on their own accords, and if wanted to, could potentially return some day if given the chance.

For a change the new Dragon Ball game could be an adventurous 2D/3D-type, like Enslaved, from Dragon Ball's story to the very last of GT, the cutscenes could be in-game graphics than video animation just to speed up things up.
There's Dragon Ball Advanced Adventures, Dragon Ball Z Sagas, Dragon Ball Z Infinite World and Wii's Dragon Ball Revenge of King Piccolo.

As I said to DonieZ, I would really love to have a Street Fighter like game!!! Well, maybe the best will be as sequel to the manga/Z, with Arcade mode done in the style:
There is brand new major villain!!! And he sets up Tenkaichi Budokai like tournament that takes the planet Earth like a huge ring and you travel trough the world, battling other characters until you reach the main villain and battle him.....
Something like Cell Games versus G Gundam. I doesnt need countless of characters, they can make a whole new original storyline, cutscenes
and gameplay fist to fist, kick to kick, every character different martial arts style and as super and ultra combos the Ki attacks.
My brand new idea is to not discard the Ki charging, but make it something like supercombo. you will unleash key combination like down-left, down-left - guard and cutscene with game model comes into scene with for example Goku screaming and powering up, cgarging his ki bar for one quarter of power.... I will make this combo time limited and also, that your opponent can interrupt it by attack until the cutscene and charging comes into the place. Having the feel of real time fighting, but discarding the unlimited charge in the battle, which is in every fighting Dragon Ball game since Super Butoden 2.
The roster can be Goku, Vegeta, Older end of Z Goten & Trunks, teen Uub, Android 17, Piccolo, Roshi, Krillin
with added new characters of the same count, be it human, alien and new villain's henchmen.
EDIT: Well, I forgot Gohan!!! Discard Roshi, making him unlockable bonus) and his transfomation ''Mystic'' with eyes going blue and black hair with shine.
I will add the past villains (Tenshinhan (actually his past self from Budokai, talking offensive), Piccolo Daimao, Freeza, Cell, Buu) as bonus characters to unlock if it will be after the manga story in their final forms with Buu having two versions. Super and kid with super having Gotenks' and Gohan outfit as costumes.
For Saiyans, the transformations (no SSJ3 for Goku) will be mapped on one extra button without need of any combo for limited time, or turned of like in Budokai, after exact count of hits received from enemy. Every character will have something like SSJ transformations, with Piccolo having more pumped up muscles and red eyes being sort of Super Namek, Human characters having pumped up muscles and glow and new characters can also have uniqe and more appearance changing transformations.
Transformation will add more ki and completely new roster of super and ultra combos.
Thre can be bonus stage about hunting dragon balls, in the style of infinite world, but not doing checkpoint runs, but having bigger map of forest, desert or city with Dragon Ball radar on the left down part of the screen showing the location. PS: Same style of the game can be made from the first anime series, making it Tenkaichi Budokai classic game, with characters from all 3 Budokai series, with all the fighters that were in, including Ran Fan and Bacterian. That can have Story mode, with brief story explanation outside of Budokai and then the Budokai itself, all with ctscenes and short movies, with bonus training missions.
Arcade mode and Tenkaichi Budokai mode, including the preliminaries. You will have all the characters including your in preliminary and you have to fight yourself trough to the Budokai itself.
But that won't be probably interesting for wide gaming audience and most of fans, as Z is the most popular in USA and Japan. So this idea is heavily non-profitable.
There is brand new major villain!!! And he sets up Tenkaichi Budokai like tournament that takes the planet Earth like a huge ring and you travel trough the world, battling other characters until you reach the main villain and battle him.....
Something like Cell Games versus G Gundam. I doesnt need countless of characters, they can make a whole new original storyline, cutscenes
and gameplay fist to fist, kick to kick, every character different martial arts style and as super and ultra combos the Ki attacks.
My brand new idea is to not discard the Ki charging, but make it something like supercombo. you will unleash key combination like down-left, down-left - guard and cutscene with game model comes into scene with for example Goku screaming and powering up, cgarging his ki bar for one quarter of power.... I will make this combo time limited and also, that your opponent can interrupt it by attack until the cutscene and charging comes into the place. Having the feel of real time fighting, but discarding the unlimited charge in the battle, which is in every fighting Dragon Ball game since Super Butoden 2.
The roster can be Goku, Vegeta, Older end of Z Goten & Trunks, teen Uub, Android 17, Piccolo, Roshi, Krillin
with added new characters of the same count, be it human, alien and new villain's henchmen.
EDIT: Well, I forgot Gohan!!! Discard Roshi, making him unlockable bonus) and his transfomation ''Mystic'' with eyes going blue and black hair with shine.
I will add the past villains (Tenshinhan (actually his past self from Budokai, talking offensive), Piccolo Daimao, Freeza, Cell, Buu) as bonus characters to unlock if it will be after the manga story in their final forms with Buu having two versions. Super and kid with super having Gotenks' and Gohan outfit as costumes.
For Saiyans, the transformations (no SSJ3 for Goku) will be mapped on one extra button without need of any combo for limited time, or turned of like in Budokai, after exact count of hits received from enemy. Every character will have something like SSJ transformations, with Piccolo having more pumped up muscles and red eyes being sort of Super Namek, Human characters having pumped up muscles and glow and new characters can also have uniqe and more appearance changing transformations.
Transformation will add more ki and completely new roster of super and ultra combos.

I've more or less been disappointed with pretty much every Dragonball game since Tenkaichi 2. But for some reason I keep buying them.
Tenkaichi 3 was good, but the leap from the original Tenkaichi to Tenkaichi 2 was so much more dramatic that I found Tenkaichi 3 to be very anti-climactic.
Revenge of King Piccolo was okay. It different, but completing it is a bit of a grind.
Burst limit was completely ruined by the drama pieces or whatever they're called. They made the game unplayable for me.
Raging Blast 1 and 2 were just awful. And I'm someone who loves the 'over the shoulder' fighting style .
As for the DS games, I didn't like any of them, particular Densetsu. But I not a big fan of handheld games in general.
I have Ultimate Tenkaichi on the way as a Christmas present so I can't judge that yet. I'm fairly confident it will suck, but I remain hopeful.
Now, if I were to have a Dragonball game I liked it would have to be a free roaming type game, I'm sick of the one on one fighters. I loved Arkham City so something in the same vein as that would be cool, though it wouldn't need to be as in-depth. Just some good physics for jumping, running, flying, etc.
