Why is Imperfect Cell's theme so fitting?

Post by UnbiasedDBZfan » Sat Dec 17, 2011 5:40 pm

Seriously guys, this is one of the most fitting songs in DBZ. It shows how creepy and lurking Cell and it speeds up after about 55 seconds which makes it creepy, but it fits Cells personality. Add to that with Dameon Clarke's very fitting voice for all Cell and this theme, this is probably one of the best Dragon Ball Z songs ever. What do you think? :)

Because it was written to PICTURE!

No, seriously, if you look at the episode where Cell was chasing that woman and her kid that Krillin saved, it was pretty clearly written to sync with that scene.

Personally I've always felt a lot of Bruce Falconer's music was too erratic for my tastes. But anyway I think that song sounds better in the Legacy of Goku 2 GameBoy Advance game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrtOC3H5TWk

Remember, it's either Team Faulconer or Faulconer Productions, whichever you would like to use as their was more than just one artist working on the English soundtrack.

One of them, Scott Morgan, was one of those artist's and is a member of this site known as cRookie_Monster.

Wait I thought this was Imperfect Cell's theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uoQicKTZdg

I personally find it more fitting than the other one.

Me, too. That's one of the most favourite piece in the FUNi dub.

Holy shit, is this a subtle remix of the DBZ theme? I have to be hearing things. It's like an eerie, jerky, monstrosityesqe corruption of that fun, wacky, pumped up actiony intro...much like Cell's relation to the Z Warriors. :tinfoilhat: Did I solve the DeFalcouner Code?

Actually, I can kinda...sort of hear it if I alter the tempo and pitch, and get rid of the "DUUUNNN" in the "DUUUNNN....DUN, DUN, DUUUUNNNNNNNNN" that makes up the main sound in this intro...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzyfR5Ck ... re=related

If you just get rid of that one prolongued note, then the progression is basically the same as in "Cell's Slow Theme", just grungier and much slower. Also, there's two electronic WOW-WA-WOW-WA-WOW" sounds in "Cell's Slow Theme" that, again with some imagination, does sort of resemble the high pitched electric guitar sounds in Faulconer's theme that pops in the song in quick bursts (as opposed to the low distortion guitars used for the main sound)...

But then the similiarities sort of end after about 20-30 seconds in. Honestly, assuming that it was Faulconer who wrote this song, the similarities could probably have been entirely unintentional, and a result of the same musician working on both songs. Like when a book author makes his main character more similar to him/her then he realizes.

Somehow I missed this whole thread :) Thanks!

This:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBuQhCSX ... re=related

is actually two different pieces mashed together.

This
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uoQicKTZdg

was meant to be the Imperfect Cell theme and was actually part of the first track I linked, but that part was chopped off for the CD and instead one of Mike's pieces was mashed onto the end instead.

The whole track (crazy fast part in particular) was in fact written for the scene where Cell is chasing a little girl and her younger brother. The studio name was "Cell Chases Kids". I was always proud of the way the notes were synched up for Cell's impending footsteps...which was no easy feat.

The theme (the 2nd link) I had done was a little bit too active for a lot of scenes, so Mike came up with
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4hXtcjXFjI
for even slower scenes.

I don't think Mike was referencing Bruce's main theme (which is Goku's theme). SSJ3 (Julius) however does. It' about the only theme I know of that patrially references another one with the exception of straight remixes like the various Trunks themes or "Cell Returns".

And to try to answer the original question. Hm, I compose using intervals most of the time. The intervals in the Imperfect Cell theme are very dark.
Intervals tutorial
The sounds are also very distorted, grungy, and dirty, as opposed to the pure tones in Mike's Perfect Cell theme. I think even Bruce comments on this in one of the interviews.
