DNA's game exclusive stuff analysis - Announcement
*Notice*
This post does not relate to the current update. If you want to check the latest update you must go to the later pages.
So this is in sequence to an old thread on the "Fan-Creations" section. Since I thought it no longer applied there I decided to make a new thread here. I'm starting with the NES games and will try and continue onwards including games like Budokai 2 and 3 with their short "filler" storylines and the newest Ultimate Tenkaichi game. Emphasys on the try, this project make take quite a while to complete.
Without further ado, here's a copy of what I posted last night on the other thread:
Mistery of Shenlong
-------------------
Overall look:
Okay graphics. Shitty repetitive music. Retarded gameplay.
Chapter 1: Search for the Dragon Balls
A very similar telling of the first arc of Dragon Ball.
Chapter 2: Kung Fu Tournament
A weird tournament. Goku fights Kuririn, Yamcha and Buyon. Buyon is the "champion" and is called King Buyon. I think he fights Mettalic here too.
Chapter 3: Another Search for the Dragon Balls
So Goku decides to search for the Dragon Balls again, but alas one is in space. Goku travels to space (possibly the moon?) and finds a station where Toninjinka dwells, plotting his revenge. He sends out his newest henchmen, Kurilien. Goku fights Kurilien and easily defeats him and then Toninjinka, getting his Dragon Ball in the process.
From here Goku goes to a region called Seven Islands, this region is kinda swamp/jungle or something. Goku fights his way forward, defeating random "African gentlemen" and fish people, crabs and other weird things. Gets some Dragon Balls. King Binbo dwells here too, Goku defeats him.
Finally he reaches Konpei Tower and again fights his way in, defeating hordes of baddies eventually reaching a giant robot wielding a nun-chuck I think. Gets the final Dragon Balls and gets his wish.
New stuff:
Kurilien: A strong four armed alien mercenary. He's based on Kuririn
King Binbo: A native american. Uses a bow. That's about it.
Seven Islands: Rain forest type region. King Binbo reings here.
Konpei Tower: Reminds me of Muscle Tower? Kinda? Enter the Dragon maybe.
Pilaf has a pet two-headed Dragon.
Daimao's Revival
----------------
Overall Look:
Okay graphics. Extremely boring and confusing fighting system. Moving on the world map drags a bit but it's not too bad. Music is okay. (Eventually I understood more about the fighting system but it's still kinda boring).
Chapter 1: Demon King's Revival
Some time has passed since the last Tenkaichi Budokai. Goku, Mutenroshi and Lunch arrive at Kame House, Kuririn was left house sitting. The house has been invaded and they find Umigame hiding. Goku finds Kuririn killed upstairs along with a sheet with the Ma symbol, the sign of Piccolo Daimao. Goku leaves in a hurry and finds Kuririn's killer, Tambourine and challenges him to a fight, although Tambourine is out of his league and he quickly loses, breaking the Dragon Radar and losing his Kintoun and Nyoibo in the process. He decides that he must warn the other fighters about these attacks and gather the Dragon Balls.
Chapter 2: Getting his gear back
Goku and Lunch go to Capsule Corp to ask Bulma to fix the radar, only to find that she's been kidnapped by the Demon Clan! After searching the city Goku stumbles upon their hideout and fights Ukulele, freeing Bulma. She fixes the radar and informs them that Yamcha was in the Transformation School with Puar and Oolong. She tags along with Goku.
They go to the school but everyone is acting a bit strange, they find out they're imposters from the Demon Clan, and Goku fights Ukulele again freeing Oolong and Puar. They inform him that actually Yamcha went to Jingle Village to recover from his injuries. (Why?)
So then they go to Jingle Village. By order of Piccolo, Pilaf kidnapped Hatchan and raided Muscle Tower. They go in and Hatchan attacks Goku, he's being remotely controlled by a computer. Oolong and Puar destroy the computer, freeing Hatchan. Pilaf attacks with his Pilaf Machine. Goku defeats him and they save Yamcha who was held captive in the tower. They also get the 2 Star Dragon Ball in the process. Outside, the village elder tells Goku that if he calls upon Kintoun it will appear. Goku decided to follow Pilaf.
Chapter 3: Get the Dragon Balls from Pilaf
Goku arrives at Pilaf's Castle, finds and defeats him again. Pilaf says that he'll never find the Dragon Ball. Looking through the castle Goku stumbles upon Tambourine again, defeats him and gets the 4 Star Dragon Ball. But there's one more ball here.
He goes to Baba's Palace to ask for her help, but she wants treasure in return. So he goes to Kame House and joins Bulma and Oolong with the mini-sub and they both go to the pirate cave. Once there they slowly follow through until reaching the spear trap, Goku jumps over and Bulma and Oolong disappear. Goku proceeds and fights the Pirate Robot. Looking around he finds a hole, goes in and finds another Demon Clan member, Banjo. After defeating Banjo, he gets the 3 Star Dragon Ball. He hears sounds from the other side of the wall, goes through the water and finds Taopaipai. After defeating him he rescues Bulma, Oolong and gets the treasure.
Now with the treasure, he goes back to Baba who gives Goku a saxophone, from there he goes back to Pilaf's Castle, finds a room guarded by Ukulele (again!), defeats him, plays the sax and gets the 6 Star Dragon Ball. (This whole part makes no sense).
Chapter 4: Getting the last Dragon Balls
So now the gang move onwards to the Karin Region. Upa has been kidnapped by the Tsurusennin. Tenshinhan and Chaozu happen to be there too (I think it's implied that they just come down from Karin's Tower).
So with Tenshinhan and Chaozu on his side, he challenges Tsurusennin whilst they rescue Upa. Goku defeats the Tsurusennin and climbs Karin Tower. There he finds Karin who gives him the Super God Water and tells him he's got a plan and that Goku should find all the Dragon Balls. (Good thing he's nearly done with that anyway).
So Goku goes to Penguin Village but Toninjinka has invaded and turned everyone into carrots! (It's implied that he's working for Piccolo too).
Senbe escaped and tells Goku all about it. Goku finds Arale and they both go to Toninjinka. Arale fights and easily defeats him since she's a robot and he can't turn her into a carrot.
One of the carrots was Suppaman who tells Goku that there are aliens in the village (apart from him I guess). Goku sees a spaceship flying around the village but can't follow it. So then he finds Yajirobe (who's randomly loitering here) and then Cymbal attacks! Goku defeats him, getting his Nyoibo back (so Cymbal had it for some reason) and Yajirobe gives him his 1 Star Dragon Ball. Goku uses his Nyoibo to strike the spaceship which crashes down. From inside comes Synthesizer, a two headed alien who attacks Goku. After Goku defeats him he gets the final Dragon Ball, the 5 Star.
Chapter 5: The Road to Defeat the Dark Lord
Goku returns to Karin and he tells him to got to the remote region of Konpei. Goku then moves there, eventually finding a shrine where he puts the Dragon Balls and summons Shenron to open the path to the floating island of Konpei. He climbs there and accepts the challenges that Lord Konpei gives him. After defeating Lord Konpei, he grants Goku with Holy items to defeat Piccolo. With these items he ventures to Piccolo's Mansion and once inside he fights Drum who's guarding an evil orb. After defeating him he smashes the orb with the Holy Hammer and frees all the souls of the people who were killed by the Demon Clan.
Chapter 6: Defeat the Demon King
Now Goku goes onwards to the Dark Castle (former King's Castle) and once there he defeats the last of the Demon Clan, Tambourine, Drum and Synthesizer.
Then he finally finds and challenges Piccolo, but not before Organ, Piccolo's personal assistant, provides him with an elixir made from human souls to grant Piccolo his former youth and power.
Goku and Piccolo clash and after a long battle Goku kills Piccolo by ramming through him.
Now peace can return!
New Stuff:
Ukulele: A small kappa looking mutant namekian offspring.
Pondanuki: A professor at the Transformation School. Looks like a panda even though he's based of of a Tanooki.
Ponkitsune: A professor at the Transformation School. Looks like a girl with fox ears. She was the one Oolong stole the panties from.
Banjo: A octo-humanoid mutated namekian.
Synthesizer: A two headed alien who invaded Penguin Village. Apparently he's also a member of the Demon Clan?
Lord Konpei: An anthropomorfic elephant deity.
Organ: A substitute for Piano for some reason, looks really weird, can't even describe him.
Transformation School: The school where Puar and Oolong studied. It's located south of West City.
Konpei Region: A remote region of the world, south of Karin. It's a floating island with a temple where Lord Konpei resides.
Piccolo's Mansion: Located west of Penguin Village. Just a dark and eerie mansion.
Right so, now I'll try to play Goku's Legend, but I think that one hasn't been fully translated yet, so I might jump to another one.

Re: DNA's game story analysis
Sorry for the double post, I found an interesting thing today. So apparently Ukulele, or someone very similar to him appears in episode 102 of Dragon Ball, when Mutenroshi is retelling Daimao's first attack.

Also this guy appears, I know I might be fanwaking here but I wouldn't be too surprised if he was the inspiration for Synthesizer, minus the extra head.

He's huge, ugly and kinda draconic, very similar to Synthesizer, again, minus the extra head.
Trying to play Gokuden but getting lazy every time. I can sum it up really quick though and seeing as no one seems to be very interested in this thread maybe I'll just jump to the next one.
Gokuden has got a very similar gameplay to the previous game, being boring confusing card type battles. This time though it seems even more confusing than before. It spans from the very beginning of Dragon Ball up until the defeat of Ma Junior. Music seems to be similar to the previous game in the series. Graphics are slightly better and there are more colours, but it's not a great improvement. There is a little extra though, in the credits if you press A when Raditz's and/or Arale's picture appears you can battle them. Apart from that there are no other extras, no extra chapters, no new enemies, every enemy is taken from the TV series.
In the mean time I was also playing Advanced Adventure, unfortunately the battery in the cartridge appears to be malfunctioning, probably running out, so my save dies every now and then. I did manage to beat the game on normal (again) before the save got deleted (again).
Advanced Adventure
------------------
Fucking grade A game! Cool looking graphics and enjoyable soundtrack. Skips some fights and characters but follows the story close. It's also got a nice versus mode, although a bit limited.
It's got fun extra modes that enhance it's re-playability.
Even though you fight against Giran, Nam and Chaozu, they are not unlockable in the versus mode.
[Boar Bandit]
Exactly as the name implies, a bandana wearing boar bandit.
[Maraca]
A simple wingless Tambourine.
Ukulele is back!
Kuririn uses the Dark Kintoun, this item did appear in the TV series, Karin gave it to Taopaipai but took it back when he was halfway through getting down.
There are a bunch of Red Ribbon Army soldiers, they are all animals. This is a trend followed by later games.
I'm also replaying Attack of the Saiyans, that one will take a bit longer though. Right, if no one of you zero people opposes I'll jump onto the next game on the NES series: Assault! The Saiyans.

Re: DNA's game story analysis
I have to disagree here, Synthesizer doesn't really look all that much like a dragon. He just looks like a two headed creature that someone slapped a couple of those Darth Vader voice changer things on...only blue. lolDNA wrote:Also this guy appears, I know I might be fanwaking here but I wouldn't be too surprised if he was the inspiration for Synthesizer, minus the extra head.

Re: DNA's game story analysis
I... Guess? You can barely discern anything from the sprite, but yeah he does look like he has face plates. Also... Two tails I think? He does kinda resemble old Kaiju monsters, but then again, so does that other guy. I dunno man, Synthesizer confuses me. He's mentioned to be an alien, comes in a spaceship but knows who Cymbal is and appears to be one of Daimao's top men.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I have to disagree here, Synthesizer doesn't really look all that much like a dragon. I think you can pick out more than enough details. Two headed Darth Vader monster, with some odd sort of armor and a belt...
Re: DNA's game story analysis
Oh fair enough, I was playing on an emulator and the screen was really tiny. I couldn't see many details at all.
Re: DNA's game story analysis
Hey kids! Winners don't double post!
I just have to say that this is surprisingly becoming more taxing and annoying. Pretty much gave up on "Goku's Legend" like I said, it's a run-down of the whole Dragon Ball arc with nothing new to add, also it's not properly translated. Tried "Assault! The Saiyans" and it turns out Raditz is one tough mother fucker, I couldn't beat him, even with an infinite health cheat on, it seems he's got a sure-to-kill move. Tried messing around to get better stats to no avail. I did play enough of it to know about it, saw some new stuff and pretty much know about the rest.
"The Violent God, Freeza!!" is also poorly translated, and also doesn't add much new, but it does offer a few little things.
Finally, tried "A Violent Battle With the Artificial Humans" just now and... Well, first I didn't get any cheats and was trying to play it normally, I have no clue how to revive characters once they die and can't find anywhere how to do it, both in game and out, so I died.
Obviously the most interesting and unique game is to come next, but as I've heard it's also the hardest, so... I either get my cheats right so I can quickly demolish the game and get the storyline out, or... I dunno mang.

Good luck with the hard games, DNA.

So, is there any progress in this, DNA?

Meh, losing a bit of steam here. Been sidetracked a lot. Got some progress on Attack of the Saiyans, but I doubt anyone is interested on that one.

Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: DNA's game story analysis
I decided to post the first part of "Attack of the Saiyans!", I'm nearly done with the training arc.
Attack of the Saiyans
---------------------
Amazing graphical visuals, albeit with small sprites but well done.
Really good fighting system encompassing nearly all the attacks we see in the series.
Good soundtrack. The music for Toninjinka's boss fight is a remix of the original music for the first levels of Mistery of Shenlong! Another song is also remixed as Goku's theme.
Good original "filler" stories but why the fuck is Broli in this? The logical character to include would be Tulece. Speaking of that, could have included some movie stories.
Chaozu gets the shaft again.
Prologue: Time to Set Out! Aiming for Even Greater Heights…
- The Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chaozu have been training under Mutenroshi. He decides to give them a final test, he sends them on a quest to retrieve a spare crystal ball from a cavern in training island. In there they are challenged by Jackie Chun. They defeat him and get the ball but wonder to themselves if Jackie Chun is Mutenroshi. Mutenroshi returns to the Kame House, changes and remarks that they went all out on him. The guys arrive and realize his tired, further fuelling their suspicions, they give him the ball and don't mention it again.
Chapter 1: Take Back Oorin Temple! Krillin’s Tearful Homecoming
- Kuririn returns to Orin Temple for a visit, but upon reaching there he finds that someone challenged the dojo and defeated everyone, taking the dojo's banner. He gathers information from his fellow monks, turns out the fighter fled to the nearby Bamboo Forest. There he finds a young girl named Pao Pao, it turns out it was her who challenged Oorin Temple. Kuririn defeats her and she explains the reasons behind her actions. Turns out she's jealous of her sister who's a better fighter than her and gets all the attention. Kuririn says he can relate since he's always surrounded by better fighters but he always gives his best. Pao Pao is inspired by his words to train further and surpass her sister.
Chapter 2: Yamcha’s Sure-To-Kill Sokidan! Who Are These Guys Hanging Out in his Hideout?
- Yamcha decides to return to his old hideout. He finds many carrots lying around near his hideout, Puar was disguised as one to avoid being turned to. He turns back to normal and explains that the Rabbit Gang took over his hideout and turned all his of Yamcha's gang into carrots. Yamcha confronts Toninjinka who boasts that he got much stronger since he return from the moon but Yamcha still defeats him. Then he forces him to clean up his hideout and turn everyone back to normal.
Chapter 3: The Aloof Warrior Tenshinhan! The Phantom Shishin no Ken
- Tenshinhan has a conversation with Mutenroshi about the Kame and Tsuru styles, saying his confused about the true meaning behind Martial Arts. Mutenroshi advises him to travel to the Divine Crossing, the resting place of Mutaito, to perfect his skill and find true meaning in his fighting spirit. Once there he finds a statue of Mutaito and a sealed container. A spirit speaks to him, promising him further power. Tenshinhan unseals the container and frees the Evil Flame. The spirit takes over Chaozu's body and Tenshinhan can't beat him. Luckly the spirit of Mutaito speaks to Tenshinhan and guides him, teaching him the Shishin no Ken (a lesser version of Mafuba? I'm not sure). With this, Tenshinhan quickly seals the evil spirit again, saving Chaozu. He returns to Mutenroshi who asks him if he found the meaning of martial arts, he says he didn't, but he found a purpose: protecting who's important for him.
Chapter 4: Even Further Activity! The Turbulent Tenkaichi Budoukai
- Just the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai without much alteration.
Chapter 5: Gyuumao in Danger!? The Wedding Dress in Flames
- The filler arc from the series, the only difference is that you get the remaining warriors to help Goku.
Exclusive new stuff:
[Bamboo Forest]
A simple bamboo forest near Oorin Temple and the East City.
[Pao Pao]

- A young martial artist seeking to be stronger to impress her father and surpass her sister. She eventually moves to the land of Karin.
[Yamcha's Gang]
A gang of bandits who follows Yamcha.
[Divine Crossing]
The resting place of Mutaito's spirit. There's a small shrine with a statue of him.
[Evil Flame]

A fire spirit which was sealed long ago by Mutaito.

Ah, OK.

Re: DNA's game story analysis
Okay, five more chapters done and a big update. I've done some changes to the five previous chapters and I might replay them and enhance them with more info.
Edit: I'm done with the changes on the previous chapters. Used Herms guide and my own memory to enhance them with more information.
Chapter 6: The Strongest of Warriors, Raditz Invades!
- Just the battle with Raditz, pretty straightforward.
Chapter 7: Don’t Cry, Gohan! His First Battle
- First part of Gohan's training, again, nothing major.
Chapter 8: Even Further Activity! Aim for Lord Kami’s Palace
- First moments are the same as the anime, it kicks when Kuririn has to find the warriors.
- Tenshinhan is training around Jingle Village. Lunch was there with him but is missing. Kuririn, Tenshinhan and Chaozu investigate. It seem that since she felt weak and useless she had been caring for a sick boy and went to the Holly Plains looking for Frozen Hyacinth, a medicinal plant, but unfortunately got lost.
- Eventually the guys find and rescue her, and also find the hyacinth in the process.
- Yamcha was just kicking it at his hideout, no baseball shenanigans here, unfortunately.
- The gang goes to the Karin region and climb the tower to talk to Karin. He says they are all to go to Kami's Palace but first he asks them a favour. The Senzu plants are dried and need water. Karin tasks them to go to the nearby Hermit Spring and fetch some Hermit Water required for the plants.
- There they eventually find the spring, but it is guarded by the Spring Guardian who summons the Spring Majin and challenges them for the right to take some water.
- Upon their defeat, they get some water, deliver it to Karin, go up to Kami's Palace and begin their training.
- Gohan trains with Piccolo.
Chapter 9: Even Lord Enma is Startled: A Fight in the Afterlife
- Goku arrives at Enma's, begins traversing the Serpent Road, falls to hell, defeats Goz and Mez, eats an Enma Fruit, defeats the Snake Princess, arrives at Kaio's planet and catches Bubbles.
- Kaio informs him that there is trouble in Enma Forest, where the Enma Trees that bear the Enma Fruit grow. Raditz has been wrecking havoc there. Goku, along with Bubbles and Gregory go investigate and challenge Raditz, who had ate one of the fruits before destroying the last tree. Still Goku defeats him and returns to Kaio's Planet to report.
Chapter 10: The Lost Dragonballs! The Long Road to Victory
(This is a big'un)
- Six months have past since Goku died and Kami tasks the warriors to find the Dragon Balls in preparation to bring Goku back to life. Suddenly Piccolo arrives with Gohan to help with the search. Mutenroshi informs them that his sister Baba brought someone to help them. They fly to Baba's Palace and she reveals she brought Goku for a while to help them. With this, the search finally begins.
- The first ball is in the Yunzabit region. There they eventually find their path blocked by super strong ice which they can't break with ki. (Where have I seen this before). Goku figures they might be able to break it with flames from the Divine furnace so they move to Mount Five Element. They convince Annin to give them some flames. They traverse Yunzabit again, melt the ice and find a cave behind it. Going through the cave, they eventually find the Red Ribbon army in their way.
Tenshinhan comments that he heard rumours of the army gathering together again. Defeating them, they get the one-star ball. Yamcha seems overconfident of his abilities, Piccolo remarks that that may cost him his life. (Overshadowing FTW).
- The radar pinpoints two Dragon Balls in the Devil's Toilet, the gang investigates.
Gohan says he senses evil, which Piccolo likes. Kuririn comments on the creepiness of the place, Goku doesn't mind and feels comfortable. Yamcha and Tenshinhan are hopeful for the two signals, Kuririn has a bad feeling. They traverse the Devil's Toilet until the find the Ladies demon, defeating it they get half of the two-star ball, turns out the radar was detecting two halves of the same ball. They are startled by this turn of events but Goku has a plan. They keep going along the labyrinthine Devil's Toilet and eventually find the Gentlemen demon who was guarding the second half. Goku says that, since Popo restored Shenron when the model broke, he should be able to restore the ball as well. They travel there and Popo quickly does so.
- The next one is at muscle tower. General White is back and trying to restore the Red Ribbon Army. Hatchan found the three-star ball and hid it away, unfortunately he got brainwashed by White. Suno tries to get Hatchan back but no to avail. The gang arrives in the nic of time and rescue her. The heroes climb the tower, which is in bad shape inside, and find White with Hatchan on the top. They defeat them and Hatchan regains consciousness. Hatchan doesn't recognize Goku at first, mistaking Gohan for him. After the warm reunion, he gives them the three-star ball and returns to Jingle Village with Suno.
- The another one is in the collapsed Pirate Cave. They move to East City to get Dr. Briefs to lend them a submarine. In there they realize that the cave was not completely collapsed after all but it is in bad shape. Due to short circuits, there are live wires emitting electrical current and the guys are unable to progress. They fight two stronger models of the Pirate Robot which were the cause for the short circuit. Eventually they find the Giant Octopus who's been guarding the Dragon Ball upon Red Ribbon Army's request. The heroes defeat him and get the five-star ball. The Octopus is actually kind of nice and was just kidding about wanting to eat them. (Apparently Goku didn't kill the octopus in this game's timeline).
- The six-star ball is in the desert area in a giant eagle's nest.
- With six Dragon Balls they decide to return to Kame House since Goku's time is up and Baba's there waiting. After Goku is gone, Kuririn uses the radar and realizes the Dragon Ball is moving towards them. Pilaf and his gang suddenly appear, steal the Dragon Balls and run away to his new castle.
- They reach the castle, Piccolo remarks his disbelief of them having the balls stole by someone like Pilaf. They enter it and brave their way through, reaching the pinball room and destroying three giant pinballs in the process. (This room and pinballs are from the series). Eventually they reach the top where Pilaf is. Pilaf mentions that the first thing he wants to do as king is get popular with the ladies. He them corrects this and says he wants to help all the starving children, which Shu retorts that it's not evil at all. (I thought this was interesting to mention because it means Pilaf is not that evil at all.) The gang confronts him and demands the Dragon Balls back. Instead they get into their mechs and merge. The guys defeat them and take the Dragon Balls. Yamcha asks what to do with them, Tenshinhan says it doesn't mind, they've seen their evil ways. Piccolo thinks to himself that it is odd that Tenshinhan considers them evil.
- They all return to the Kame House and give the Dragon Balls to Mutenroshi. Piccolo leaves with Gohan to train. The rest of the guys return to Kami's Palace.

Re: DNA's game story analysis
A lot interesting topic! Thanks DNA.
Looks like the Attack Of The Sayians is like Legacy of Goku went right. It's damn shame that there are no sequels.

Yeah it was done in Japan instead of America, that's why lol. Yeah I hope it has a sequel, it does allude to it at the end apparently.MCDaveG wrote:A lot interesting topic! Thanks DNA.
