Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
Hello!
Why did Funimation edit the Kamehameha in the fight between Goku & Cell
Here is the Original that aired on television & VHS maybe DVD?
Here we see that Goku fully says Kamehameha!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI-L-JUVHiY
But in Funimation's Orange Brick Season Sets, Goku only says Kameha But no ''me'' then Ha!

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Goku totally pwns Cell with that move, I could see Nelson from the simpsons popping in and saying "HaHa!" to Cell. So maybe they renamed it because its a total HaHa! moment

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
Wow, I never noticed that back when I watched the orange bricks!
This actually further leads credence to the popular belief that the "revised" dub used audio tapes from before finalization, which didn't have some dialog and "added" some lines, as well as there being fewer voice filters.
Judging from that clip, the original sounds like the Ha and the Me were different takes spliced together, as they kind of fade into each other. I'd imagine if they're using earlier recordings, then Schemmel hadn't recorded that final "me" yet.

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
I remember when I first started going through the Orange Bricks. I knew they also changed the scene where Goku and Vegeta just stare at each other.
Start watching the video at 37 seconds and it ends at 51 seconds and you will see when Vegeta and Goku stare at each other they're not saying anything
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ0RfdS4 ... re=related
But when Funimation released the Orange Bricks they have new lines
start watching at 40 seconds then it ends at 49 seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sftsMO3T ... re=related
I much prefer them just staring at each other without saying anything
Also in the original Broadcast Android 19's voice had that filter on it, And I love the way he sounds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXzooTdJ3U0
But when the Orange Bricks came out, They must have removed the filter on his voice and he sounds like this

I'm pretty sure there's dialog there in the Japanese version as well, so if anything, that makes it slightly more accurate.samuraix123 wrote:I remember when I first started going through the Orange Bricks. I knew they also changed the scene where Goku and Vegeta just stare at each other.

One that's bothersome though is the added speech before Goku finishes off Boo with the Genki Dama. Some uncharacteristic crap about how "Killing is wrong and now you'll know how it feels to have your live taken" or something. Just further tries to drive home the dub's idea Goku's a justice loving superhero. FUNimation was wise to leave this out of their dub initially.

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
This would have bothered me 5 or 6 years ago, but since I watch only the JP version now, it's okay with me. I can't bare to watch more than 1 episode of the dub back to back.
Getting back to the topic, I agree that 19's robotic voice sounds much cooler. It makes no sense that they changed that. It's also pretty common knowledge that dub groups use old dialogue from tapes when they remaster new ones. I mean the ones (dialogues) that are okay are just re-used.

Well it doesn't really bother me per say, I just don't understand why they didn't leave that sound bit of Goku saying the full complete Kamehameha

Another interesting bit is how Super Buu sounds higher pitched, as the filter used to deepen Justin Cook's voice is gone. Forplain ol' Super Buu, it's not all that bothersome because he sounds crazy, but for Gotenks Buu, he basically sounds like Yusuke grown up.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Do you know of some comparison vids?jjgp1112 wrote:Another interesting bit is how Super Buu sounds higher pitched, as the filter used to deepen Justin Cook's voice is gone. I'd like to hear the differences.
Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
Removing Super Buu's voice filter was the biggest sin in the season sets.
Take a look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apEGtJkTX8w (skip to 2:03) Sends chills down my spine.
Now here it is without his voice filter - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trizm2JB-MY

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
Definitely agree before even getting to how horrible the season sets generally are. Gotenks/Piccolo Buu had the most badass voice in the dub, IMO. Now I gotta hang onto the ol' VHS just to hear his better voice.Codarik wrote:Removing Super Buu's voice filter was the biggest sin in the season sets.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
I never understood what that voice filter was for. It sounded like Babidi or Bibidi, but I recall Buu outright killing them both, not absorbing/eating them.Codarik wrote:Removing Super Buu's voice filter was the biggest sin in the season sets.
Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
The voice filter was to deepen his voice, and for that particular moment it was just there to make him sound insane.SSJ2 Dark wrote:I never understood what that voice filter was for. Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
I pretty much Already know the answer to this question. But will Funimation ever Re-use the original audio track, with the voice filters?

Re: Funimation Edits part of the Kamehameha
Highly doubtful. The current dub track they have is completely timed to the Japanese footage (minus previews, which they don't have outside of the Dragon Boxes anyway), whereas the original track had different timing due to the intro being different (the old singles used the replacement openings when watching the dub didn't they?), and for a huge chunk of the series lacking eyecatches initially, and a different ending.samuraix123 wrote:I pretty much Already know the answer to this question. The only difference would be the movies which used the Japanese intro footage and endings, but they probably don't even know the difference there anyway, and with the series current dub track they can just slap it on there and call it a day.
