DVD and BD Audio Channels

Discussion specifically regarding the "refreshed" TV version of DBZ created in Japan for its 20th anniversary, including individual threads for each episode.

DVD and BD Audio Channels

Post by linkdude20002001 » Tue Feb 21, 2012 8:19 pm

My question is, what are the audio channels in the 5.1 audio? Like, are there music only-channels, or voice-only channels, et cetera?

Looking at the rear cover of my Blu-ray DBZ Kai Part Six:

Video:
- 1080p High Definition 4X3
- HD Native

Audio:
- Dolby TrueHD: English 5.1
- Dolby TrueHD: Japanese 2.0

Subtitles:
- English

THE LEGENDARY Z REBORN:
  • FEATURING THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE SCORE
Which is "Music Shunsuke Kikuchi" (aka the Official Kai Replacement Music).

Can't wait till Part Seven's here with the rest of the other parts. :D

Damn 6 months of waiting!

On the Kai DVD's 5.1 audio tracks have the following layout

Channel 1 Music/SFX Loud Volume
Channel 2 Music/SFX Loud Volume
Channel 3 Voice/SFX
Channel 4 Music/SFX Lower Volume
Channel 5 Music/SFX Lower Volume
Channel 6 I'm not too sure about this one

Unfortunately all audio channels (except 6?) have the SFX with another audio element muxed in, I'm not too sure about the Blu-ray's layout but I think the it's exactly the same.

Also on a side note whenever there's an echo effect channels 1, 2, 4,and 5 have a bit of an echo from track 3 on them, this echo effect also seems to be present when some characters are thinking to themselves.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

Thank you. :D It's too bad the Japanese release doesn't have a 5.1 track. I'd love to restore the Yamamoto score to the uncut English dub. Maybe it would be possible to use my recordings of the Nicktoons version to get it right. I've seen people attempt to restore the Yamamotot score, but they'd use different tracks, and it was just bleh... :<

You can if you invert the audio....
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

...I'm sure he already knows this. Read the first post again, he's not asking about this.

I appreciate his desire to help, though. :)

But would that work...? The Nicktoons audio isn't DVD quality, so there might be an issue. :/

Hard to say. If you can add compression to the audio and get the waves to match the sound on the Nicktoons recording, it should work. The problem: compression to match the compressed Nicktoons recorded audio.
