Quick question about the Trunks DVDs

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Quick question about the Trunks DVDs

Post by M-Vegeta » Wed Feb 18, 2004 1:37 am

How exactly do you know you're getting the two "Trunks" discs that were re-released with eye-catches, opening and ending themes surrounding each episode, subtitle heights reverted back to normal, and the typos being fixed?

I'd like to get the discs that were re-released.

The back of the discs should say the number of episodes and if you're ordering online, the info on the volumes should tell they are the right ones.

The old discs are pretty much out of circulation; I doubt you'd even find them anywhere.

But yeah, you can tell by the packaging. I believe the date will be reflected (2003, ne?). Also, the blurb on the front of the discs (about it being bilingual) is the smaller splash, as opposed to the larger one from back in the day (you can sorta see this in the "DVD Guide" with the scans). The "Prelude to Terror" one is most obvious, since it now has 5 episodes instead of the original 3 (3 + 2 "Burger King" VHS exclusive episodes... driving!).

You know EX, that reminds me of when the tapes for those episodes came out and how once again, it sucked to be an anime fan in Canada. The third Trunks tape-"Z Warrios Prepare" was indeed exclusively available at Burger King, but then Burger King decided it wasn't going to offer the video at it's Canadians chains. I have no idea why. Anyway, anyone wanting to have that video in Canada couldn't buy it. I remember Funimation had to argue with Burger King that they couldn't deny Canadians access to the volume and that they would have to be allowed to send it to Canadian stores to sell. It was this whole huge delay and I remember my comic store tried to get some used copies off of E-bay so that they could at the very least offer them for rent to their customers. And they managed to get I think 5 copies when they got them, 4 out of the 5 were damaged. Finally, Funimation was able to send them for sale here, but it was a really weird development that seemed for some reason to be a running theme with Funimation and DBZ. :?

Yeah, I was ordering them on-line, and Amazon has "Prelude to Terror" listed with only three episodes. ... So I was a little confused. I'm guessing they just haven't updated their info.

Maybe you should update the "DVD Guide", EX? I thought I could go by a release date to make sure I had the right DVDs, but the release dates are the same in your guide. Amazon has the release date as: February 5, 2002 for both "Mysterious Youth" and "Prelude to Terror."

Guess I won't be ordering them used. I'm fearful that I might get older versions of these two disc.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

A lot of times, if you buy them off of E-bay, the seller will actually specifically say what episodes they have on them.

I can understand that you don't want to get burned, but they've been out of circulation for a long time now. And even on the chance that you do accidently buying the old ones...well hey, you got yourself a collectors item! :D

I don't want a collectors item. I want five episodes on a single DVD.

UGH ... I'm kind of iffy if I want to order from Amazon. From checking the reviews, even later dates (January 4, 2004) complain of receiving the three episode disc.

I guess I'll just order from Amazon and cross my fingers. Unless someone knows of another place I can order the DVDs. I don't want to bid on them.

Well, you can always buy them off the ZStore...as long as you don't mind paying through the teeth.

WOW! ... only $24.98.

Screw it. I'm ordering from Amazon.

Wish me luck.

I bought the old ones brand new for $25 at Suncoast *growls*

I REALLY wish they'd done some kind of a swap program at least with the second disc what with sub errors and extra episodes, I dont mind having the opld Mysterious youth disc though it works fine by me.

I wish FUNimation would release some sort of information about episodes 1-67. Those Real Player episodes are getting old, already ... :D

I haven't seen the whole series, yet. I'm trying to watch them in order. This is why I have Ginyu, Frieza (Freeza), and just ordered the Trunks DVDs. I've seen a few Cell episodes and none of the Buu.

Vegetto707 posted that they have big plans for them.

Any clue as to what that might be?

As an extra pointer, the font used for the title of the DVD is different. The old one uses an italic font that was also used on the "Androids" DVDs, whereas the new ones use the same non-italic font that is on the "Frieza" DVDs.

Yeah, but when you're ordering online you can't really go by cover.

True.

Er, this may sound crazy, but couldn't you just...email them? Or better yet, phone them?

Really? I used to do it still back in the 80's. And the 90'S. And actually, I still do. Well! How 'bout that? :D

You'd think so, but I couldn't find a customer service number or even an e-mail.

But I'm also not the sharpest knife in the drawer ... and I'm pretty lazy.

$12 per DVD and based on the episode count on disc 2 they're the new opnes, but if you're curiuous e mail them, I can vouch for their service, its absolutely fantastic, they reply usually within the day, and I can also vouch for their lightning fast shipping, sometimes they don't have the best price, but $12 per volume? How do ya beat that?
