Dragonball on the New iPad HD
I just preordered the new Apple Ipad HD which comes out on the 16th. Apple also has the Viz Manga App that currently has Dragonball and DBZ, which I already have!! So I'm anxious to see how the digital tankōbon displays. Apple says the new retina display is 2x better than the Ipad 2. What do you guys think? Can't wait to read up on my Dragonball manga in all its HD glory!

Sounds like a blast, is it the VizBig edition or the regular releases that are available on the app? Oh and congratulations on your latest purchase!
Re: Dragonball on the New Ipad HD
Sounds good but to me there is no substitute for a physical copy of the manga

Oh I know that!! Believe me, I have the Viz tankōbons as well. It'll just be a new refreshing way to read them again in a new format is all I'm saying.

Boy, freshman year of highschool would have been a lot less embarrassing if I could have read my comic books on something like that. The school library had a collection of literally EVERY Jump but if you dared to wander over to the manga shelf BAM instant weaboo status and snickering. I learned to stick with rereading JTHM ad nausium so maybe the goth kids would at least think I was cool (they didn't.)

Re: Dragonball on the New Ipad HD
I imagine the manga would look better on the Vita than the new iPad due to its display. Vita sports an OLED screen which provides considerably better blacks, and overall colour spectrum than the iPad's LCD screen. Resolution, and screen size is way in the new iPad's favour, though it must be said that if Viz's scans of the manga are not at a huge resolution themselves that huge screen resolution may be a bad thing. Though it doesn't really matter, since as of this writing there is no comics store for Vita, so obviously something is better than nothing.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Someone posted actual caps of the full resolution images for a few pages. Someone should repost those here or point to the thread so they can see.

At home or on the go I would rather have digital versions, that way the physical manga wont get worn out.
Re: Dragonball on the New iPad HD
Last I remember, the resolution for the iPad 3 is 2048x1536, so that's even higher than the usual 1080p HD.
Re: Dragonball on the New Ipad HD
Not at all. PPI (Pixels per inch) is what matters these days, and the new iPad kills the competition. Not to mention it has 4x the resolution (not 2 because you have to count length and width) of the original. I'd say it looks great, but reading it from print is probably the best way to experience. I don't have any of the manga though. Can't afford all 26 at the moment.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:I imagine the manga would look better on the Vita than the new iPad due to its display. Here is a good video showing how you would experience manga on the Ipad HD.

Re: Dragonball on the New iPad HD
I have the first ipad and use it to read manga. I have bought the first three volumes of Dragon Ball from the Viz app. They look great. I can't really see them looking any better. They are not the Viz Bigs and seem to be edited. Atleast more edited then the print versions I have.

The improvement is only 2x than the iPad 2 on iPad HD? Wow, that's disappointing.TheNamekGio wrote:I just preordered the new Apple Ipad HD which comes out on the 16th. Re: Dragonball on the New iPad HD
The new display actually contains four times the overall number of pixels, with twice the pixel density of the iPad 2. Not to mention there are other differences, both significant and subtle, between the two models, which are summarized here. So take your irrational disdain for Apple elsewhere.dbboxkaifan wrote:The improvement is only 2x than the iPad 2 on iPad HD? I am a proud owner of an Apple Ipad 2. And I agree with that the improvements are not enough to warrant for a new "number". I expected something more revolutionary, but I am too disappointed.Corporate_Nothing wrote:The new display actually contains four times the overall number of pixels, with twice the pixel density of the iPad 2. Nevertheless, whether you use an Ipad, Ipad2, or Ipad3 (or any other tablet), I believe that you can still enjoy reading manga on it just as fine (Manga isn't really a HD medium to begin with).
