Heard Chris Ayers' Frieza voice for the first time
It reminds me of a voice I heard in a DBZ abridged parody - in fact its identical.
I burst into laughter. The slight britishness is awesome.
Still not scary but a lot more entertaining than Linda Young.

It's similar but I've come to prefer the TFS Freeza to Chris's Freeza. Both awesome!
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Eh, how far in to the show are you? Because almost everybody had your exact same reaction at first, only to do a total 180 as more episodes came out. Here's a thread I started waaaaaaaaaaay way back that, conveniently enough, now acts as a fun chronicle of how we here at Daizex received Chris Ayers' performance. We were all ecstatic at first, then kinda let down, then a bit more hopeful, and then by the end we were ecstatic again. So give him some time...trust me, his performance is spectacular.Goten Forever wrote:It reminds me of a voice I heard in a DBZ abridged parody - in fact its identical.

On another note, it's kind of funny how the Abridged voice for Freeza worked out. I believe Kaiser Neko posts on here occasionally, so he should feel free to correct me if I'm getting the details wrong, but if I recall correctly from listening to interviews, their original intention was to have Abridged Freeza be a parody of Linda Young's Freeza, and Lanipator was originally going to play Freeza (you can actually hear what his Freeza voice would have been like if you listen Freeza's first line in "Bardock Abridged"). Ultimately they cast LK (who does a fantastic job), but they cast him before anybody knew that Linda Young would be recast for Kai. So while I don't think it was their original aim to make Abridged Freeza sound similar to Chris Ayres, ironically enough, they do slightly resemble each other.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Funny how my opinions reflected exactly what the fandom was thinking before I became involved in it.
I, too, disliked Chris Ayres' Freeza at first, but grew to love it as the series continued.

Maybe because they both based it on Nakao's stellar performance?TheBlackPaladin wrote:So while I don't think it was their original aim to make Abridged Freeza sound similar to Chris Ayres, ironically enough, they do slightly resemble each other.

Not sure, that's very possible. Kaiser or LK could answer that in more detail, but LK did reveal a little bit about how he came to be Freeza's voice.AgitoZ wrote:Maybe because they both based it on Nakao's stellar performance?TheBlackPaladin wrote:So while I don't think it was their original aim to make Abridged Freeza sound similar to Chris Ayres, ironically enough, they do slightly resemble each other.

As much as I like Ayres, whenever I hear Freeza speak in any other language it just doesn't sound like Freeza to me. I was just that impressed by Nakao's voice acting.
Still Ayres is the best English Freeza by far.
