DBZ meets One Piece

Post by GS7X7 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:12 pm

I'm just curious but has there been any news as to whether this anime special (I think it's only available at a convention hall?) will ever be dubbed/licensed/translated/etc?

(I wouldn't be surprised if there was a topic/podcast on this but out of 1000s of topics and 100s of podcasts I wouldn't even begin to know where to look)
Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

No.

If you haven't heard about it around here then there's probably no news. How would that even work? I doubt an event like that could be reproduced for a home release. Not even Japan has gotten one.

I don't get it.... a One Piece-DBZ crossover should be a huge event.

Why refuse to distribute/license it out when they could make some good money doing that? (is this something like "Studio Ghibli Museum's" animes that can only be viewed at the museum to encourage visitors or something?)

Wait... are you guys talking about an anime special? Or the manga special?

Considering it was broadcast on multiple screens, I honestly doubt this will see a home release of any kind.

For those who haven't seen it, here is a cam recording of it. I just noticed by watching this again that Kankichi Ryotsu from Kochikame is in this as well:

There's a couple of Dragon Ball / Z content that FUNimation could've licenced and released it already.

- Dragon Ball Z: Episode of Bardock
- Dragon Ball Z: The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans
- Dragon Ball Z: The Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans
- Dragon Ball Z: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!
- Dragon Ball: Special 1 - Goku's Traffic Safety
- Dragon Ball: Special 2 - Goku's Fire Brigade

Plus other stuff I've not listed.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

 I don't believe it! Two questions:
1) How is this called?
2) Who is this comical guy with the blue clothes?

EDIT:
3) What's its plot? Is the villain there from One Piece? (I haven't watched One Piece by the way, only for some time 10 years ago when it was on TV in Greece)

I have no idea. I always knew it as "that one Jump Special with the multiple screens and giant dragon head."

Ryotsu Kankichi from Kochikame.

The bad guy is God Enel from One Piece, and the plot, basically, is that he attacks Tokyo until Goku and Luffy kick his ass.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I had to look this up since I honestly don't know the title of it myself.

This feature is called "Kyūtai Panic Adventure Returns!" which is the second of two specials featured at Fuji TV headquarters. The first one had a cameo by Astro Boy (which I just found out about just now!), and the second features a cameo by Kankichi Ryotsu from Kochikame.

They both aired at an event called Odaiba Boken-Oh. The first one was during the 2003 event, and the second one was during the 2004 event.

EDIT: Removed my last two responses since Bussani replied before I could. His responses are correct.

I need to move to Japan  I might start watching One Piece, That was the first time I ever seen it :P It looks very akira toriyama-ish I would love to know the real name of this.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Enel is pretty badass and powerful in One Piece. His body is made out of electricity because he ate a Logia fruit, and Logia fruit users are generally the most powerful characters in the series. That makes him immune to most attacks. Generally only Logia users can hurt Logia users but Luffy is an exception because his body is made of Rubber. (Goku's ability to use "ki" is probably what enables him to hurt Enel, though, let's disregard the fact most of the DBZ elite can blow up a planet with one finger as it'd make for a pretty dull crossover if the OP cast were like ants to the DBZ guys)

Which of the videos was the best one?

I remember watching it long ago on some board and the quality was so bad I don't even remember them beating up Enel besides landing a few attacks, just Luffy spinning around Goku while he Kamehameha'd a bunch of flying robots near the end.

(also, what exactly do they use the dragon to wish for? For some reason absolutely has translated this)

It's a good series, you should definitely watch it, especially if you watch it in English (Funimation, not 4Kids) then you'll recognize a few of the VA's from DBZ.

Yeah I'm going to haft to check it out. I noticed that the Japanese voice actor who played luffy sounded like the voice actor who plays krillin?

It is. Mayumi Tanaka voiced Kuririn, Yajirobe, Uranai Baba, and now Luffy.

The shows share plenty of actors. Sasaki Seiji, Nozawa Masako, Furukawa Toshio, Ginga Banjou, etc.

Anyhow, I do wish this special could get a home release. Considering how much Toei does a year, though, I have to assume this project is far from the forefront of their minds.

Just found the name of those features. The one with six screens is called "Kyūtai Panic Adventure Returns!". Here is the information from the Wikipedia page for Goku (I know it's Wikipedia, but they provide sources for the information they posted):
Goku regularly appears on Fuji TV. In 2003, Goku appeared in the interactive feature Kyutai Panic Adventure! (球体パニックアドベンチャー! Kyūtai Panikku Adobenchā!?, Orb Panic Adventure!), which was featured exclusively at the Fuji TV headquarters in the Kyutai or orb section. In this, Frieza attacks a visiting tourist, blasting the orb section free from the rest of the Fuji TV building. Goku fights Frieza over the real life aqua city of Odaiba. In 2004, a sequel called Kyūtai Panic Adventure Returns! (球体パニックアドベンチャーリターンズ! Kyūtai Panikku Adobenchā Ritānzu!?, Orb Panic Adventure Returns!) was produced.

No, this animated project came before Cross Epoch was created.

Funnily enough, Toriko and One Piece will be crossing over again for their April 14 episodes. :P
