Any news on other Dragon-box releases?

Post by samuraix123 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 12:54 pm

Hey guys
Has Funimation released any new information about which Dragon-box release would we like to see next? It's been awhile sense the survey and I was just hoping for some new info. I really hope the original Dragonball Dragon-boxes are released.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

As of right now? No. But convention season is starting up. Sometimes FUNimation will hold back on releasing any news they have for conventions.

But hey, you're in the right place though. Once any news hits, members of this community are usually the first to know.

Yeah I know that's why I love this site :D I just didn't know if maybe Funimation tweeted something saying ''Hey we may be talking about the Dragon-boxes at such and such''

And again, if there were any news of that variety, you can rest assured that we would have covered it already on the very website you're visiting right now. :)

Personally, I'm assuming anytime after this release. You should probably peep FUNimation's social outlets as well as Kanzenshuu's news feeds whenever possible for updates.

Isn't it great that you ca come here and know that everything will be covered? You don't have to worry about looking on your own. That why I love Daizex-- uhh, no, KZS.

I wonder what the results of that poll were?

If I could take a guess I'd say the original Dragon Ball series got the most votes with Dragon Box the Movies coming in a close 2nd place and DBOX GT being far behind but then again I could be wrong about that.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

What seems to sell better is stuff with the Z logo so I'd say the films box is what possibly's coming.

I'd prefer the original Dragon Ball series instead, but the Z films box has stunning quality!

The BEST part is correct aspect ratios and beautiful sound since they actually preserved the original sound masters so everything sounds crystal clear.

Wow, the movie Box sounds amazing. If "Z" sells then you would think this would be the next Dragon Box, and that would be great if it was the first, or even only one we get. I can settle for the quality of the blue bricks over the quality of the Z movies we have, and I did vote for a movie dragon box in the survey. Releasing the movies also seams to be the easiest route FUNimation could take, so I hope for news on this soon.

What was the point of the movie packs if they're releasing Dragon Box versions? :?

We don't actually know if and when these would be released but it would reasonably be some time after the movie packs.

Funimation said they have a release planned for the original Dragon Ball for 2013 so that might be when the Dragon Ball Dragon Box will be released.

Turns out it was actually on the second to last page of the aforementioned thread.

Quote for reference:
DerekPadula wrote:Good news, everyone. FUNimation has said yes to accepting the tape!

It took months of phone calls and emails, but I finally worked my way through the system and got in touch with the right person (the Head of Marketing for Dragon Ball), and he said yes.

So here's the deal. Tommy at Harmony Gold is going to get the tape out of the vault and add it to his pile of videos to be processed and recorded. It will be part of a large batch process, and it may be a matter of weeks or even months before the batch is sent out. There's no telling when it will occur.

Then once they have the video content, they'll send it to FUNimation and work out all of the business details. I imagine Tommy will also tell me what's on it at this point.

The Head of Marketing (who's name I don't want to disclose) said that he's excited about seeing what's on it, and would love to use it to help market the next release. But he also mentioned that the next release of the original Dragon Ball is going to be a ways out, probably in 2013.

That's the short version of the story. The slightly longer version is that certain people at FUNimation apparently don't like returning phone calls or emails. Boy oh boy.

Anyway, there you have it. My work here is done!

I just hope that Madman will actually license the Dragon Boxes this time around if it is indeed a Dragon Box release since they didn't with Z.

If they can license the unfinished Blu-Rays for Z, why the hell did they not license the Dragon Boxes?!

Because Madman's poor PAL conversion techniques would ruin any Australian Dragonbox release. Best bet is to just import it. It would be cheaper than a local release even with postage.
