My Dragon Ball Dream English Cast.

Post by Black Mask » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:50 pm

This has most likely Been Done before, But Here I'm going to Introduce My Ideal Voice for Characters of The Z portion of the series.
Piccolo:Kevin Conroy
Kami:Michael Ironside
Son Goku:Tara Strong (This one is Weird I know, But consider how Tara Voice's mostly Male Childlike Characters which Fits into Goku's Personality Perfectly and If she Could Adjust her voice Slightly Then I think She could Be an awsome adult Goku.
Nappa:Troy Baker
Vegeta (This One I can't personally Think of at the Moment. Telll me What you think? Criticism is appriciated.

A woman as Goku in an English version of DBZ is not the best idea, since we all know how that turned out with Freeza. And Michael Ironside's voice isn't really fitting for Kami, but I could see him as Dabra though. However, I am partial to the idea of Kevin Conroy as Piccolo.

ETA: Kai's English cast had shown themselves to be pretty solid, but I think that I would recast Kaio with Brian Blessed, and Gohan with MasakoX.

Not to be a doosh, but Chris Ayres still makes Freeza sound like a woman.

Gohan also sounds like a woman but I like it (kids have a semi-female voice before puberty), though for Freeza, Freeza needed to have a male voice.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

I would have gone for Malcolm McDowell as Freeza, personally, although I do not think Chris Ayres makes Freeza sound feminine. While I don't like Colleen's Gohan because it reminds me too much of Superboy Prime.

ETA: for Vegeta, would Andrew Chandler do? I mean, his Cooler was decent, and if Chandler could tweak it a bit, it would make a good Vegeta voice.

I favor Steve Blum for Vegeta, personally. I know he's known to a lot of you guys for playing Goku in that GT game, but his performance as Starscream in Transformers Prime is just fantastic, and I think some tweaks to that voice would be awesome for Vegeta.

Malcolm McDowell as Freeza would be a good choice since he knows how to play a good villain (Tolian Soran in Star Trek: Generations for example) and has done voice work before. No matter how bad the movie or show is, Malcolm McDowell can still pull off a good role (Tank Girl and the recent Halloween movies for example).

I'm sorry, but, oh my God, yes... Brian Blessed, the King of the Realms. I can just imagine him doing the puns, now... There's just one scene I can think of that validates this suggestion so well. The yelling so hard that it travels around the planet. "YEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL! There. An around-the-world call. DAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!"

Son Gokuu: MasakoX (if played more serious)
Son Gokuu (child): MasakoX (if adjusted accordingly)
Son Gohan: Colleen Clinkenbeard (best English Gohan, IMO; she mostly did a spot-on performance)
Son Gohan (teen): Kyle Hebert (pretty happy with his performance)
Piccolo: Christopher Sabat (my personal favourite Piccolo, who Sabat perfected in Kai)
Future Trunks: Eric Vale (appropriate voice, if he can just get rid of that rasp)
Mr. Satan: Chris Rager (English Gouri. 'Nuff said.)
Freeza: Chris Ayres (best English Freeza, IMO; fittingly aristocratic and smug voice, with a touch of androgyny)
Cell: Dameon Clarke (pretty happy with his performance)
#16: Jeremy Inman (doesn't have much of a personality to him anyway)
#17: Chuck Huber (appropriate)
#18: Meredith McCoy (sounds just as reservedly arrogant as she should do)

I agree with all of this except Kyle Herbert as Gohan, I never cared for his rendition.

Mr. Satan: Chris Rager (English Gouri. 'Nuff said.)
Totally agree... his voice is easily the most true to the original in the series.

Really? I always thought he had quite an appropiate young man's voice, with good delivery. Better than Swaile's, IMO.

To be honest, I don't know that much about voice acting or the voice actors themselves. I just listen to someone's performance, judge if it sounds good enough and is right for the character, then decide if I like it or not. Obviously, it wasn't like that when I was younger, where I just accepted voices like Nadolny's Gohan and Young's Freeza because it was a cartoon (and I originally thought that Freeza was female anyway), but now I naturally tend to have a better ear for stuff like that.

Huh. I actually go the opposite way. I thought Brad Swaile had a better voice for Gohan at that age. It still had that youth to it, and considering Nozawa was still doing Gohan as a voice, it just seems like it would be more appropriate if it's a higher voice. I felt that Kyle was a little too low for the character. But hey, that's just me, and I heard Brad Swaile first, and I think that's always gonna be a factor for people. Whoever they heard first.

Well I think he does pretty good voice acting during battles and such, (the more intense yelling, ect). To me, it was more his inflections that threw me off than his voice, he always sounded a bit awkward in some scenes. But maybe that might be my bias in the original Gohan speaking out lol :)

Hmm...after listening to his Gohan again, I see what you mean. I guess I just prefer Hebert's Gohan for the same reason you prefer Swaile's Gohan: I grew up with him. I think they're both as good as each other, to be honest.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Kuririn. Sonny Strait, since he sounds much more natural now in Kai and fits the character. I'd cast Strait for Yajirobe too, since Gokuu mentions in the Piccolo Daimaou arc that they sound alike.

As for Vegeta and Majin Boo, I honestly don't know. Not that Sabat's Vegeta in Kai is necessarily bad, but on occasions, it's still a bit gruff and I think there could be a better voice and/or performance for him.

One person I would like to hear would be Michael McConnohie as Cell.

In case you don't know who he is, he played Charles zi Britannia in the Code Geass English Dub while Norio Wakamoto played him in the original. I'd say he could do a decent enough performance.

Here's a clip of the dub (NOTE: If you haven't seen Code Geass this will be a MAJOR spoiler) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbS7v68uKQg

I LOVE Dameon Clarke as Cell but I'm open for different takes on the character.

For Buu, I was thinking Greg Ayres for Fat/Kid Buu, and Chris Ayres for Evil/Super Buu (his Freeza could actually make a good Buu voice).

Yeah, Andrew Chandler would be an interesting choice for Vegeta, but I wonder if he can hit all the notes of his character.

And I haven't heard much of Greg or Chris Ayres outside of the latter's Freeza, so I don't really know.
