I was re-reading the final Budokai in Dragonball when I came across a thought. As I read through the last battle with Goku and Piccolo we see Goku freeing Kami from Piccolo's stomach and when he is removed from the bottle he escapes as a cloud of smoke before popping back into his normal form. I know Akira Toriyami probably hadn't of planned this but does anyone else feel that the way Majin Buu was sealed up could have been a variant or improved upon version of the Mafūba we see being used to try and capture Piccolo? I'm also curious as to whether this technique could have contained Buu after he was released from his sealed ball, what do you guys think?
Edit: Also, while I know it was Bibidi that was the one who sealed Buu up we know nothing about the technique performed to do it, Daizenshuu 7 states that the sealed ball was used along with an incantation much in the same way a vessel for the Mafūba is needed.

It's probably a similar kind of technique, since both are intended for sealing evil demons up, but the Mafuuba was seemingly produced by Mutaito, while the shell and the spell used to seal Boo up was produced by Bobbodi. The two are unrelated.

But Namekians "culture" is pretty similar to the Elder Kai in a way. Guru had the same power as Elder Kais (Although way weakened), and a "Cloth creating technique out of thin air", like Piccolo did to gohan, as well as Kibito did to Gohan before buu.
