Dialogue Comparisons: FUNimation Z vs. Z Kai (Uncut)

OK, I have some dialogue comparisons between the English versions of the Original 2007 Z vs. 2011 Z Kai,. I took the liberty for example between scripts. As you already know, Kai usually follows the manga and the tale of the tape will do. Example is the Freeza arc.

DBZ Episode 78 vs. DBZKai Episode 37
Freeza: (after completing transformation) Heh heh heh! Well, this is it! I hope you're not disappointed!

Freeza: That's one down, and I didn't even break a sweat.

Freeza: My dear friend...how can I make this even more painful for you? I could crush your hands, rip off both of your ears, or maybe I'll just smash in your tiny little cranium. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.
Goku: You might be stronger, a hundred times stronger than me, Frieza, and you may have me down, but I am not about to give up now! And I will do whatever it takes, even if it destroys me, to finish you off once and for all. To give you what you deserve.
Freeza: Your speeches put me to sleep. But everyone has to have last words. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Before they're shredded into a million little pieces.

Freeza: (to Goku) Oh, what's wrong? Poor baby got a boo-boo? Well, I'll make it better. (Freeza relentlessly pounds Goku's body around)

Freeza: (Goku is out of energy and allows his head to rest on Freeza's shoulder) After all those things you said, I thought you hated me. (Freeza wraps his tail around Goku's neck) Well, I've really enjoyed prepping you for death.

Freeza: There's good news and there's bad. Good if I intended to seen to it, you last a bit longer. The flip side, you'll spend what time you have left in excruciating pain.
Goku: I-I've got to raise my Kaio-Ken x20 somehow. It's the only chance i've got left. No crump have my body to handle though. Urg urg. He- he is less than half. No wonder that's true or not. I don't dare risk underestimating whatever he's got left. My options are prepared down to nothing.
Freeza: This is no time to bemoaning your fate. After all, "fate" is not the culprit here. That honor goes to your stubborn sense of self-worth.

Freeza: (to Goku) Oh, no. Don't be such a bore. At least try defend yourself that is the whole point here. (Freeza relentlessly pounds Goku's body around)

Freeza: (Goku is out of energy and allows his head to rest on Freeza's shoulder) Don't tucker out just yet. We're just getting started. (Freeza wraps his tail around Goku's neck) I'm afraid it isn't nap time just yet my boy.

DBZ Episode 96 vs. DBZKai Episode 48
Goku: (while tightly squeezing Freeza's hand) You just don't know when to stop! Enough is enough!
Freeza: Owwwww!
Goku: First Vegeta! Then Piccolo! And now, my best friend Krillin! You don't care, I can see that! Their lives mean absolutely nothing to you! You're not in the least bit sorry! Even now, all you can think about is how to destroy me! (Freeza barely escapes from Goku's grasp and begins to move his arm)

They did a great job with the Kai dub. I've really never watched Kai, so this thread made me see how superior the Kai dub truly is during these specific scenes. I first discovered the lack of mentioning certain, rather important things, like Goku's x20 Kamehameha in the FUNi dub, once I read the manga. This of course led me to want to watch the original anime.

Makes you wonder why that didn't just stay true to the manga the first time around....

Many of those quotes are written in the same broken English said poster is known for themselves, and are best taken with a grain of salt and self-correction while reading them.

Sorry, It's fixed. BTW, maybe the episode dialogue comparison guide can help. What the hey, this site needs a English dialogue comparison guide for Episodes 1-8, 19-38, 44-107, 118-194 vs. Episodes 1-98 that they will explain in the future podcasts.

EDIT: Yes, the Funi dub is ancient and negated by the Kai dub's existing, just driving home my personal beef that the FCC is not a crutch for intentionally bad writing- what with Kai dub's showing me how little visual edits actually matter (I barely noticed, no immersion lost at all) when the script is good.

It's convenient for them to blame the FCC, the network, or something else. After Saban left, they admitted that they censored it beyond what the FCC required.

Exactly. The FCC doesn't even regulate basic cable, so it was up to the business standards and practices of Cartoon Network and Funimation itself to decide what to "censor" and what not.

Apparently, Funimation over censored even on the Toonami version, replacing death threats with subtleness (Like you're going to die becomes say goodbye and from the dead becomes from King Kai's) and censoring harmless words (Like changing butt to rear). That sound familiar? It's the same kind of censors the Nicktoons version was riddled with for no reason. Then you've got Dragonball GT, same network and rating, and no death dialogue censors or impact flashes and the blood is red.

Same with little nudity and mature subject matter on GT. The series is the only DB product that does not alter the footage that aired on TV and seen on DVD.
