What have you watched recently?
I've recently watched up to the end of the first disc of Z Season 2 in Japanese along with the first 7 Z movies in Japanese as well for the first time.
What about you?

Re: What have you watched recently?
Dragon Ball Evolution is on Channel Four again...it's on in the background as I type this.
WHAT? It's good, mindless entertainment. I don't have to take it too seriously that way.

I'm so bored right now it's all there really is on tonight. I could watch a few more of the movies but I'm done for the day.

I'm watching Gundam 00, but last things I watched labeled Dragon Ball were unreleased video footage from the Japanese playdia game.

Re: What have you watched recently?
For me, I've been watching the original Dragon Ball in Japanese with my Father from the beginning. We've watched dubbed Z (with Kikuchi's score at least) together before, though this was before the original Dragon Ball was (completely) released. I wish I would have been able to know that the original was going to be released in a few years from then, but everyone was talking about how "unlikely" and "impossible" that was, so I started him on Z. I regret doing so, yet hindsight is always 20/20. Same goes for the dub. I always heard him complain about subtitled movies when he was searching for movies to watch "On Demand", but I wanted to show him Fist of The North Star, and that series has an incomplete dub, so I used that as an opportunity to get him used to reading subtitles.
Now he's seen all of the original Dragon Ball, and despite knowing some events such as character deaths work out in the end, there was still much he was surprised by, so it was nice to see someone's reactions to a partially spoiler free experience, both for this and Z. I had a partially spoiler-free original Dragon Ball experience as well, though to a lesser extent.
He was always wondering what was up with the characters like Tenshinhan and Yamucha, and he often exclaimed that they just "stand around doing nothing", so he was intrigued to see their back story. He really grew to like Tenshinhan especially (as did I upon my original Dragon Ball viewing).
Anyway, now to segue back into the main topic's question, my Dad and I just got back to the episode where Goku as a Super Saiyan first fights Freeza yesterday. We watch two to three episodes every day or two, and we've been watching Dragon Ball in general since 2007 or so since I first got my Z season sets. He really likes the series. I've yet to show him GT (partly because I still only own "Season 1"), and I don't know if I ever will or not.

Re: What have you watched recently?
I watched the original Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans OVA for the first time this past week. Loved it, especially the music. Still holding out for another original Dragon Ball anime release before I watch the series again ( Dragon Box ). Same with the Z movies, but I'll definitely get the blue Dragon Ball movie box and the GT complete series green brick soon.

Dragon Ball Z: True Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans: Earth & Space Chapters. Almost all of it.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: What have you watched recently?
I haven't finished my Dragon-box 6 yet lol on the last disc though

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Watching some of the old Frieza saga VHS tapes. Has anyone else noticed that a little after Frieza tries to blow up the planet we see the Grand Elder's house get completely destroyed but later it's intact with minor wreckage?

Keiju Ishikawa - So who is this guy compared to Seigasha?
O, is that the animation studio? From what I can see, Keiju Ishikawa wrote the music.

I've been taking my girlfriend (now fiancee) through the series, starting with Dragon Ball, during the last two years, and she knows we're hitting GT eventually. I rarely see new fans as put off by it as older ones are.
Re: What have you watched recently?
I was in the Buu saga on Dragon Box 6, about to the part where Majin Buu is revived and Gohan dies...and then I just stopped. It just bored the almighty fuck out of me, I dunno. Coming back to it a few months later, I watch two more episodes, and I'll watch more later. I'm about to watch "For Those Whom He Loves...Vegeta Perishes!"

Re: What have you watched recently?
I guess it's because I was pretty bored by it, and never got around to buying the rest of the series as a result. I think he might like it though because he seems to like anything Dragon Ball. He didn't like Z's ending, but I doubt he'd like GT's ending either because he hates vague, open ended endings, or even ones he incorrectly perceives to be as such.Cipher wrote:Why wouldn't you?Metalwario64 wrote:I've yet to show him GT (partly because I still only own "Season 1"), and I don't know if I ever will or not.

I guess I might end up showing him the first few episodes, and see if he's interested in watching the rest.

Re: What have you watched recently?
I started watching the original Dragon Ball subbed recently. The only thing DB I'd seen subbed before was PtEtSS, so it's a pretty new experience.
Anyways, I've watched up to the end of the Hunt for the Dragon Balls arc, and I'm probably going to start up again soon. I actually started compiling a preferred English voices list for the (non-one-off) characters. I might post that sometime.

I wanted to watch Goku v. Majin Vegeta again, but plopped in one disc too late and was treated to utter filler (Buu's revival and victims) at it's finest.
