Goku's Thoughts during SSJ3

Post by ItsAllGood » Wed Jul 20, 2005 7:55 am

As Goku is transforming into SSJ3, what relevance does the little flashback in his head have? It seemed to be a merging of the Great Ape form with the Saiyan form. It seems that Goku is the "fusion" of the Great Ape and his base form, which doesn't really add up considering the power he obtains from transforming. If I remember correctly, didn’t the transformation into the Great ape provide a 10x increase to power, as with Gohan?

I believe that the flashback showed that SSJ3 would be the absolute and undisputed pinnacle of the Saiyan forms. Perhaps this is what the animators intended for this form, and judging by the shock of Babidi and other characters sensing the transformation, such as Kibito and Gohan; it would seem to reflect this theory.

Thoughts? :?:

Well, I'd say a fusion between the great-ape/Kakarrot and the Saiyan/Goku would be more along the lines of SSJ4. I think what SSJ3's tranformation showed was that Goku was breaking the barrier of SSJ2 to a power that's beyond what a typical Oozaru could give. However, that's just my opinon.

I think it was to show how far Goku had reached into his Saiyan heritage, and that SSj3 would be the ultimate power, the 'Legendary Super Saiyan', if you want to call it that.

All this, of course, is ruined when Dumbass goes SSj3 also.

I don't know. I think that you could argue that Goku is the legendary Super Saiyan since he is the only NORMAL Saiyan who could go SSJ3. Gotenks had to fuse before going SSJ3.

I don't seem to recall a flashback when Son transformed into Super Saiyan 3. Was said flashback an anime filler?

Anyway, I guess it's sort of like his Saiyan heritage showing itself, much like when he punched the hole through Piccolo Daimaou and the image of the Oozaru appeared behind him.

I think it's because SSJ3 was originally the last form of Saiyan transformations Toriyama inteded to create, so when the anime episode was made they did that clip as if to say, the Ultimate form.

Basically they give the idea that he was calling forth his primal instincts from inside his mind, to give him the power to transform. It seems much more dramatic that way don't you think? :)

I like the whole idea of the “primal instinct" being called forth to make the transformation happen. Somehow, I don’t feel that SSJ4 had the same almost "evil" feeling that SSJ3 had, especially when Goku transformed for the first time, gruff voice, grim face, electricity and all the rest of it.

As far as I can remember, the sequence inside his head could have been filler, though. One thing that strikes me as strange is that if it is a push forward through SSJ2, why in the sequence do we see a combination of BASE level Goku (and a child at that), merging with Oozaru? Even with a 10x multiplier, that wouldn’t be enough. :?

Yeah, it's filler. Good one, though. I don't have a scanner, but I can give you a short desciption of all the frames that show Goku's transformation.

1. Goku from the right side, with electricity of SSJ2, looking all constipated. "And this is a level even further beyond!"

2. A close-up on his face and upper torso, Goku's screaming, with blurred irises. "Ghh... Gh... Ghhaaa... GHAAA...!"

3. A front shot, with Goku emiting a more intense aura, shooting from his body. His head is lowered in concentration. There's electricity all around him, even far beyond his aura. "Aaaa...!"

4. A shot from above, so we can see concentric waves speading away in the ocean beyond him. The electricity is not as intense now.

5. A shot of his torso from the back, his hair is longer, it passed his shoulder's and still growing.

6. A big flash with a barely visible Goku in the middle, encompassing both Buu and Babidi.

7. A full page shot showing Goku fully transformed, serious, and ready to open a can of whoop-ass.

You know, I've only just realised that Goku has both irises and pupils in this form.
It's party time, Ginyu style!

I don't have a scanner either, but what I do have is a digital camera. 8)

As you can see, this is the Chinese version. My only Chinese tankoubon in a collection of Japanese ones. Don't remember where I got it, but it was one of the first I got. That's why I asked in my first post here if the flashback was filler--it wasn't in the manga.

If it's not in the manga it's filler. Going back to your original post, there were many occasions in which Oozaru was demonstrated to be the most powerful form a Saiyan can achieve. To be honest, I always felt it was as powerful as SSJ3.

**Note: Badly edited since I forgot what Julian explains in the next post. All I remembered was him repeating millions of billions of blutz waves over and over again. **

According to Vegeta, yes. However, this line wasn't used in the Viz translation of the manga (in order to poke fun at FUNimation for something they did), and I can't remember if it's in FUNi's own dub. Guessing probably not.

It is. I've only seen that scene in the dub, and I remember Vegeta telling Goku that in that form, their power is multiplied by ten.

You know... right after Vegeta told Goku his father was a brilliant scientist :P

This is a perfect example of a one-line post that adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. Yes, it's already been very well said that it was just for effect. Another person saying the same thing gives it no more legitimacy.

If you don't have anything to add, don't post.
