The Goemon-Goku connection

Being a fan of both the Goemon game series and the DragonBall series, I found out some pretty cool things about the Japanese version of Goemon 1 for the N64.

Appearantly Goemon can turn into a Super Saiya-jin!

Also interesting, the game features several songs sung by Hironobu Kageyama. Take that Budokai

Don't know if this is illegal but those songs can be found at

Really, the Goemon series is one of the best game series around and is known for its wacky humor and things like these make me only like them more.

It has often been said that Akira Toriyama got the idea for Super Saiyan from the legend of the Golden Warrior who recieves various powerups when (s)he turns gold. While it may be a nod towards DBZ, it could just as easily be based more around that legend (same with Super Sonic).

Haha its Goeman (easily my favorate N64 game). That game always seemed an overall parody though - I mean really it even has its own giant robot called GOEMAN IMPACT. It's a good game/series though. The super powerup for Goeman is indeed a super powerup deal, and he doesnt always have it. He has to finish a challenge to unlock it (as each character has spoeciual forms, that was his, Ebisumaru for instance could shrink and Yai could become a mermaid).

Considering that he never does this in any of the other games of his I've played, r in the anime series though, I'm pretty sure its a one game gag joke.

And the man who voices Eggman in the Sonic games also voiced Tao Pai Pai in Dragon Ball. (Chikao Ôtsuka)

It's really amazing that those voice actors who are over 70 years old still do so much voicework without lowering the quality of their work. You'd think they voices would change over the course of years.

I made some gag manga of Tails being killed and Sonic going Super and the same style as goku first did, after I realised how similar the two matched up, I made it specially as a joke, Tails getting chopped in half, sonic get's tears in he's eyes and goes Super Saiyan (Sonic I mean

).

It's quite a coinsidence that my best Video game character(back in the day it was Sonic all the way) is in relation with my favourate anime(DBZ).

Was it just me who was one of the most happiest when the Sonic cartoon was first made, I mean the american version, I quite liked that at the time.

Yea I know, Sonic X is the new craze now.

I guess there were a couple... Anyway, growing up, the one I got to see was this little Saturday morning affair, where Sonic was voiced by Jaleel White. That was some strangeness right there.
And Sonic having an insatiable craving for Chili dogs... that was just plain goofyness.

Sonic the Comic was published well before DBZ was well known in the UK. I doubt the creators obtained the manga or eps so it is a coincidence.
