Which release of the DBZ movies should I get?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Which release of the DBZ movies should I get?

Post by PKMoogle » Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:49 pm

I just recently returned to the Dragon Ball Franchise after about a 4 year break and I was wondering if I should get the DBZ movie double feature Blu-Rays or the newer 5/4 movie packs

In all honesty, it's probably the same difference. The new movie box sets are simply the double features repackaged.

You can get all 13 DBZ movies under 50 bucks if you get the box sets on Amazon.

I'd go with the new movie packs. Get them form Amazon, they're cheap there. There is a chance we will get the Z movies in Dragon Box form in the next year or so, but If you're like me, you don't wanna wait that long, especially if, also like me, you haven't seen most of these movies in like ten years. I plan on purchasing these movie packs soon, as well as the blue bricks, the Dragon Ball movie 4 pack, and GT: the complete series.

For the Trunks and Bardock TV specials, I recommend FUNi's 4:3 singles.

I would get the bricks, but if you are really someone who cares about quality go with the blu-rays.

There's various choices right now:

Dragon Ball Z Movie Packs Collection (Complete)

Dragon Ball Z Collection of Films on Blu-ray (Complete)

Dragon Ball Z Collection of Films on DVD (Complete)

Dragon Ball Z Double Feature Singles (Cancelled)

Dragon Ball Z Film Collection 1-3 With Ocean Group Dub

If I were you I'd either go with the Movie Packs or the Blu-rays, but I'm waiting for FUNimation's 2013 announcement. :)

Just wish they would include Ocean Dub (Films 1-3) also if they were to release DRAGON BOX THE MOVIES.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

That's what PKMoogle was asking to choose between though :|

I would get the Blu-rays if I were you, since the same masters apply to both the packs and BDs. With the Blu-rays, at least you get some pretty nice looking HD out of it, even if the remastering varies as expected. You'll likely have an easier time getting the 5-packs though.

I'd say the BDs if you can get them for under $15 a piece.

Oh, sorry about that, my pick would be the movie bricks as it's easier to get all films than the Blu-rays.

It's nitpicking, sure but it would be better to refer to these as "Remastered Singles" rather than "Double Feature" as the discs which were released only contain a single movie, thus they are not "double features."

If you can find the double feature Blu-rays for a good price, I would recommend those, as I believe the movie packs are the exact same content though (possibly, as I don't have any of them so please correct me if I am mistaken) without the dub replacement score. So, if the dub score is a deal breaker, then definitely try to track down the double features.

I'm 99% sure the movie packs are the exact same discs, meaning they do have the dub score.

Yeah, the movie packs are identical to the remastered DVDs, complete with the same disc art.

Does each DVD volume get its own character design or it's Shenron for all?
