Rather than lock it (as it should be), I'll actually turn it into a different direction.

What CDs did you not own? What surprised you about some of these CDs? Let's ignore the vast majority of the foreign ("foreign" being, say, German drama CDs and such) ones... I just couldn't keep up with their listings, and kinda gave up on them.

what DB CDs don't I own? All but one sadly.

Although that CD was pretty fun, the US "Dragonball" soundtrack. Although many don't like that first dub of DBs first 13 episodes by FUNimation, I had a huge thing for those tracks - they were the part of what got me into everything. Plus while it's not Makafushigi Adventure, Gotta find that Dragonball was a catchy tune.

Anyway to keep to EX's topic it always shocks me to hear that the SNES games have soundtracks. I always have wondered if they are remixes, or just the SNES tunes directly?

They're not "remixes," per say. They're more like "orchestrated" versions of the straight in-game songs. And they're pretty freakin' great :).

I am a big fan of classic ingame music. I am eagerly anticipating the day I get to play Super Gokuden, and actually hear the score!

Which makes me think... Has there ever been a CD released with the score to any of the old Super Famicom DB/Z games?

Orchestrated, even better. I will certainly have to hunt these down now! My favorate way to get music CDs of SNES era games is orchestrated - the FF VI Orchestrated CDs are amazingly fun to listen to. Thanks for the info on that EX!

Just out of curiosity, the music from Hyper Dimension, does it sound any good on the CD? I heard it had the best BGM out of SNES games. I too found a few of those tunes quite catchy.

I also think that it's inconvenient for the rest of the anime's BGM tracks to be found on a CD which is near enough impossible to find now.

I've heard some stuff of the Super Butoden soundtracks, but not any of the other games. Considering Super Goku Den 2 had some great music, I hope I can find that CD some day. When I have money (read: never).

Agreed. It's one of the few games whose soundtrack I actually noticed. If it has it's own Soundtrack CD I'll have to track that down... How's it sound?

I own one db cd XD (which I bought at Kinokuniya Bookstore last summer).
I'm not sure which one it is, only that it has young Goku on the cover, about 12 tracks, and was made by Columba Records in 2003.
On hiatus.

Could be the re-release of the DB Complete Song Collection (Zenkyokushû), although it has 17 tracks, not 12.

It appears to be some sort of CD soundtrack to a special performance of "Taiko no Tatsujin" (Masters of Taiko), which includes a bunch of anime themes including the DBZ one. Dunno how you'd go about covering a song with just drums, though. :)

for a long time i wanted to write something about these german "drama cds",
i hunted down all 9 CD´s of these Dragonball Z Drama CDs, and some of the overall 12 Dragonball Drama Cds.

Since i dont know about the history of drama cds/cassettes in the states, let me tell you something about the case in germany:
All of the stated dragonball dramas were produced as audio cassettes and audio cds, in germany audio dramas or in german "Hörspiele" were very popluar in the 80s and 90s, especially drama cassettes (not cds) from tv series, like ALF, Knight Rider, Turtles, but there were original audio dramas, for example benhamin the elephant, aswell.

Audio dramas based on a tv series were produced with the sound track of the original tv episodes, with slightly added comments of an narrator at the opening, or in situations of the story, were a description of the situation was in need.

Just like in the Dragonball, also Z, audio dramas.
But, the narrator of the dragonball audio dramas is the german voice actor of kid goku, Corinna Dorenkamp.
For Z, the narrator changes after Disc 6, i have to look up the names from the booklets next time (will edit them in),
but its a fact that the narrator of the first 6 discs dubbed german trailers for the z tv series back then, when it aired for the first time on the german channel RTL II. On a disc are 2 audio episodes, so a disc contains 2 audio files, which have the episode titles of the associated anime episodes, again after disc 6 something was changed, they sliced these separation of two episodes, 2 audio tracks, into 6 audio tracks that you could navigate better through the story. The Dragonball Audio Dramas didnt have these ongoing scheme, they skip episodes.

So, the Z Audio Drama covered 18 Episodes of the Anime.
The Lenght of each Episode (One Track, or 3 sliced Tracks) ranged from 13 to 19 Minutes.
The Lable "Spacy Trac" distributed by Universal, released also Dragonball, One Piece, Beyblade and other Audio Dramas ten years ago, but the company is closed now.

As i told, Audio Dramas were very popluar till the middle of the nineties in germany, kids used to listen to them before going to sleep, or while playing/building with lego and stuff. Spacy Trac in some way wanted to revive (and monetize) this phenomenon again, but this project rapidly unlit.

In 2003 was the cinema debut of "Dragonball Z - Der Film" (The Movie) which was movie 12 and 13 stringed together, with this release another company "Top Sound" (Shutted down in 2010) released 2 separate audio drama cds (and cassettes), based on both movies called "Drachenfaust" ("Dragonfist") and "Fusion", i dont own this two.

besides this two last ones, the artwork of the Spacy Trac releases are often inappropriate ...
like volume 3 of the Dragonball Audio Drama which features artwork from dbz movie 11, or volume 6 with artwork from Dragonball Movie 2. Vol. 4 of the DBZ Audio Drama features Artwork from Son Goten within Boo, but the disc is about Radditz.

... if you have any questions, feel free to ask

While I appreciate the contribution, this thread is seven years old. If you have something new to toss out there, by all means create a new thread for it. Thanks!
