20th Anniversary Celebration!!!

Post by DBW » Wed Aug 10, 2005 3:43 am

Basically, there's a big DragonBall celebration going on in Japan, and we didn't even know about it!

I've posted all the details over on www.kanzentai.com news.

Very nice, I was wondering if they were going to do anything for the big Two-O. It'd be nice to stop in myself... but I don't speak a word of Japanese, or have the money to get there :P

Why exactly is the Merry Go at the Dragonball event?

The Going Merry is actually an attraction in Tokyo (I believe it's right outside the Fuji TV building, which I'm assuming is right near the Aqua City building). It's built to scale and you can actually take rides on it and I believe it shoots cannons too! (I remember seeing something shooting out of it, but it might have just been a water cannon...)

Now if only we could see a scale Shenlong that if we get all seven dragonballs around the place, it shoots out random Dragonball goodies!

Well, there is a scale Shen Long in the Fuji TV building, but I don't think it shoots out DragonBall merchandise. :P It does light up and speak, though.

And about the Going Merry, apparently you can trade in the pins you recieved at the rally for a chance to get aboard and take a look around. Gah, I really wish I was there right now... although I'd probably be spending most of my time in the museum.

If that's true, he must be, what, 300 feet long? If not, I was thinking FULL SCALE :P

I don't really know why the 20th anniversary is being done so late and early, regaurding the show, the 20th anniversary is this February. Regaurding the mangas written by Akira Toriyama, that already passed it's 20th anniversary last year. And am I the only one on this messege board that refers to the 3-part Dragonball series as "the Dragonball Trilogy"? Because quite frankly that's what it is: (original) Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT. The show is quite literally a trilogy in it's own right, and I wish people other than myself would refer to it as one like any other fan of the Star Wars or Back to the Future trilogys would refer to them as.

I do as well. Hell, throw in both Dr. Slump series and you could call it "The Toriyama Saga". :P

Cool, but what about the 25th anniversary...

Toriyama never intended it to be called anything but Dragonball. It was just the producers of the anime that wanted the "Z" added. So to me, the whole thing is just Dragonball.

The only reason I can think of that they would of put the anniversary inbetween the two dates would be so that's it's at approximatly a middle date, so they can claim it celebrates both the manga's and the anime's 20th aniversary.

So who's paying for the tickets for all the members here, to get there?

I thought Akira Toriyama told them to change it to DBZ to both signal a change in the seriousness and he wanted to get the series over with soon.

See: Z = the last letter in the English alphabet = the end of the series

I read somewhere that Toriyama told them to change it to Z, but he couldn't change the manga 'cause it was already too late. Don't quote me on that.
