Discussion on DBGT Transformation:

Post by Conan the SSJ » Fri Aug 12, 2005 12:59 pm

I haven't gotten it yet, but from what I've seen on the commersial of it, I'd have to say it looks pretty good. Hell, they got basicly every character in the Blackstar Balls and Bebi sagas (I even saw Giant and Muto-Tiger, my own names for them 8) ). What do you guys think of it thus far? I must say that as controversial as GT was, thank the game makers we have a GT game at last, as it's the one series that hasn't yet had a game soley devoted to it's story.

I personally think the graphics look a helluve a lot worse than any of the LOG games. I dont know why they decided to make such a drastic change in the style. If the gameplay's the same, I might check it out.

Oh no! Looks like you won't be picking it up then. :P

If you mean the lion, his name's Léon. Don't remember if the giant has a name, though. :)

I played it a bit on emulator (don't flame please), just to try it out. I was thinking about buying it but after that, no way!
They gameplay is too repetitive.
You haven't got the ability to transform when you need to (like in the LoG games) and I'm not too sure but I don't think you can do energy beams, just small ki blasts.

I played through the first two planets during my lunch break, today. It's... repetetive, indeed. The entire second level was pretty much just punching bees.

That's not to say I haven't had fun playing it... I have. It's certainly nowhere near the enjoyment of the last two games (thus far, anyway), though.

Am I wrong about transformations? I couldn't do it and I assumed it can't be done (that and today I went on Gamespot to look at what the unlockables are and a few are transformed states.)
Can they be done mid game?

The second level was as far as I got. The big crocodile thing at the end kept eating me and I hated having to go through and beat all those bee's again. I am hoping that when I finally get past that level it will be good to play again 'cos I actually liked the first level.

Oh man... this game is so far a huge let down. I've been playing for the last twenty minutes, and from the get-go it's almost nothing like the LoG games, and the combat system feels horrible... :|

I am surprised to say the least. I think I am loosing confidence in WebFoot over this one... it feels like LOG1 all over again...

[Note: I still have yet to complete the first planet...]

Well it NEVER claimed to be part of the LOG series, you know. Just a game by Webfoot that chronicles DBGT. Though I haven't played the game yet, don't you think it makes more sense to start something new in GT than to mess with a successful series like LOG before it's finished?

While it's true that this one didn't say, "Previously, in Legacy of Goku (#)" (like Buu's Fury did), it's obviously still being considered part of that series of games. Look at its URL -- http://www.atari.com/us/games/dbz_goku4 ... oy_advance. It's by WebFoot, it's a continuation of the story where the last game left off, etc. :P

So while it's nothing like the past games, it's still in the series. Zelda II wasn't anything like the first game, but it's still Zelda II (though that's a somewhat poor example, since it's got the number in the title :P).

Being, or not being part of LOG doesn't make a difference, I just meant that it should feel more like a LOG game, since it had excellent controls for what it was.

I still tryed to enjoy this one, I really did, but I couldn't even get past the first planet, before I was so sick of it, that I gave up. The controls are just... ugh, and the health bar is way too low, and fuck, you can't even transform to increase your power any.
Even though I really didn't have hopes for Transformation before it's release, I am feeling really dissapointed over this slap-dash title. You would think that after producing quality games like LOG2, and Buu's Fury, they would keep within the same style, and the game would... I don't know... not cause me to develop a fucking tumor, because I can't get past the first level! :|

Sure, but the game makes me feel retarded. I sit there punching away on whatever the hell the first planet is called, but within the first couple of minutes Goku dies, and then I get Trunks' who can handle himself for awhile, but then he eventually dies off, and then I get saddled with Pan, who couldn't fight her way out of a wet paper bag.
The first level is seperated into 'mini-bosses' (like in Advance Adventure, where you have to fight a set amount of creatures, before they will let you progress) and these guys have quite a bit of health, and make progression a complete pain in the ass...

Like I said before, I haven't been so frustrated with a DB game, since I played LOG1... :|

The game has to be better than Taiketsu and TCG, right...right?

It's much, much better and is quite a fun, great game. Despite what has been said so far the game is not overly difficult and the controls are for the most part very good. I got the game yesterday and have been playing it non-stop ever since. I must admit that when I first started playing the game it did seem difficult (I died at the beginning of the first level) and the controls did seem a little odd. After that initial loss I turned off the game and took a minute to reevaluate the situation. First off I most likely felt the controls were a bit weird because I had just been playing Advance Adventure up to this point. DBGT Transformation is a similar game but actually plays quite different. I reread the instruction manual a couple of times, set the difficulty down to easy and then got back into it.

Since then I've already beaten story mode and am now working on unlocking everything using the single playing, on medium btw. DBGT Transformation is not quite as good as Advance Adventure seeing as it's much more limited (no one-on-one fighting, mini games, 20+ unlockable characters) but it is still an awesome game, though a bit short. The only things that have bothered me so far is that it is a little slow, not enough enemy type variations, craptacular menus, and the annoying voice that starts every level.

To comment on what Sun_Wukong said the game is very similar to the previous LOGs. The animation style of the backgrounds and enemies, the energy blasts and even the music all remind me of those previous games.

To further extend my liking and praise of this game (I'm getting a little crazy aren't I? ) the character portraits are absolutely amazing and the in-game graphics are also pretty good. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but being able to play as one particular very large yellow character was also pretty amazing.

Well, I've completed the game's story mode and found it quite enjoyable. Although I consider it to be more of an Advance Adventure sequel than a Legacy of Goku sequel... (Even though the US doesn't have AA... >_>)

I've bought GT Transformation, played the first level, it's pretty good, certainly FAR better than Taiketsu and TCG, and I'd place it on par with the first LoG game in terms of being a good game. The story mode cut-scenes are quite impressive at the start. And there will be another GT Transformation game after this one, as Webfoot and Atari wanna make a full 5 for the LoG series and cap off with GT's Super 17 and Shadow Dragons (and maybe even some Goku Jr. additions) sagas. And am I the only one who thinks Trunks kicks the most ass out of the three at the start? And would you believe, he can use the sword he was given by Tapion in his combo.

I still think it's a banana in pyamas.

Anyhow, I got the game and it sucks. Really. I am a big fan of beat'um up games like Final Fight and Double Dragon, but this game is so terribly repetive you almost fall asleep after the first enemy.
